  1. That defence is beginning to make me think that we do need a central defender after all!
  2. Fleck is left-footed but seems comfortable anywhere. Tends to play either wide left or just behind the main striker. Maybe not quite so strong as Rooney but has similar touches. Agree with you about not having personnel for 4-4-2; that is why I see the 2 holding midfielders in a 4-2-3-1 as a way of utilising our imbalanced squad at the moment. Fleck or Davis if we get him could play in front of Hem. and Thomson, flanked by Novo and maybe Lafferty. Don't see where Miller fits in though (or Boyd) and therein lies the problem!
  3. ^^No place for Fleck? He seems to be easing himself into the team now. I'd put him in MCulloch's position.
  4. Thomson's main problem is that he always plays on the edge - I can see him getting suspended a fair bit if he continues with his sometimes rash tackling. He could form a pairing with Hemdani or Ferguson as two sitting midfielders with say Davis in front of them but that would mean losing a strker and playing 4-5-1. Many teams - not least Benitez' Liverpool - now play this way. Nonetheless, like Gribz, I see him as a future captain.
  5. Agree 100% especially points 1-4. More worryingly, does this mean Carlos may still be offered up for sale a la Hutton? Could that be what's behind the courting of Loovens, a poor man's Carlos?
  6. Think he had just left when I started seeing Gers for the first time - Ritchie, Shearer, Caldow.. rolls off the tongue. Sad all the same.
  7. Good stuff, Frankie. You've put a bit of optimism back into me. I think when it comes to being hard to please Rangers fans are up there with Spurs - in our case it's maybe because we were spoiled. Another thing to add - I remember Andy Townsend on TV annoying the life out of me by saying Cuellar wouldn't be at Ibrox this season .The fact we've held on to him and McGregor is almost as good as a 'marquee' signing.
  8. Wrote about this on another thread. Scandalous. If anyone should be offered up it's Cousin.
  9. Now Shittu is saying that the deal isn't dead, that it was Rangers fault for changing the terms of his contract. I don't normally swear but - Shittu GTF. Last thing we need is another mercenary a la Cousin.
  10. Breaking news - BBC football website. Shittu rejected personal terms after clubs had agreed £1.5m. No great loss methinks. Put money towards BF replacement.
  11. Could you not have got your bike out and cycled up to Munster to cheer on the lads?
  12. God, that was quick! You beat me to it!
  13. Just listening to this now. We're being given the runaround. Four left-footers in midfield! A little bit unbalanced. Hope the 4-4-2 is a sign of things to come though.
  14. Christ, don't do that! My blood pressure's bad enough as it is!
  15. Good point but can Carlos not do that? And since when do you sign a player to combat just one player, especially when money is so tight?
  16. Why do we need Danny Shittu? Not saying he's not a good player - I'm sure he is - but what is it saying about Webster and Papac as partners for Carlos? If there is a doubt about Webster's fitness then why was he signed and given a longer contract? And for cover - if that's why Shittu is being signed - then we have Weir, Dailly and even Hemdani. Be grateful if anyone can clear that up.
  17. The McCulloch picture looks much lighter than the Fleck one. Maybe it's something to do with the colour processing. I still think, though, that our colours have become progressively lighter over the years compared to the lat sixties for example.
  18. So is your missus 'almost' pregnant then?
  19. Now that is definitely NOT traditional Rangers blue. Looks more like Manchester or Coventry City's sky blue. Whatever happened to Royal Blue?
  20. For that to work, the two wide players have to be very, very good full backs, like Hutton and Numan. We don't quite have that standard at the moment. Also ask yourself, why only one team - I think Austria - played 3-5-2 at the Euros.
  21. Could you not have spotted tubby Charlie wobbling by, black top or not? What have you been doing for it to affect your eyesight so much! Meanwhile Ally's saying we have to emulate PSV and Ajax - if only.
  22. This will be my 200th post. I was hoping to celebrate it by hailing the arrival of a bright new signing; instead we may be getting Danny Shittu (who we don't need as has been said) and we can anticipate, according to reports, WS bringing in a defensive midfielder. Defensive! When we have Thomson, Hemdani, Dailly who can play there and Whittaker who may HAVE to play there! But - trying to be positive - we have a surfeit of strikers and no midfield to link up. Course, it could be remedied with the addition of Furman, who has been earmarked as a possible successor to Fergie. We can but hope.
  23. Just woke up to the depressing news that WS 'admits' we can't afford £4m for Davis. And this is after our Euro run! So our transfer budget was £6m after all. This means that our priority must now be to get into the CL proper, not just this season but every season. Dread to think what we would have to spend if we hadn't made it last season.
  24. Trust you! It had to be you to smash our dreams, eh?
  25. I have to ask you - who? Who is there who is not getting a regular start for their club who could do a job for us? Fletch might actually rise to the occasion when he is the leading light after umpteen years as a bit-part player. If he could bring his best Scotland form to Ibrox that would do for me. But I take your point re SAF not wanting him to play in the CL.
