Do we have the making s of a team for the future?
alexscottislegend replied to calscot's topic in Rangers Chat
Hope to God you're all wrong about Boogie. He wants to stay, he's made that clear; and we seem to be holding out for a high fee, so why is it inevitable? If we sold him, we would need TWO CB's, as he really needs a partner. If the option is 35 year old Hriedarrson (sp) then no thanks. If it's a toss-up between Boyd and Boogie, I'd rather it was (sorry) Boyd. We can replace him more easily. Just because we replaced Carlos, it is unlikely we can do so again. And you build teams from the back. -
Let's send a Gersnet Task Force down to show them what it's really all about. Those of us who live in Eng. can get there easily.

Gough queries Scots call for Boyd
alexscottislegend replied to johnnyk's topic in General Football Chat
Sorry, mate. Slapped wrists and all that. Just shows what a farce these nationality rules are. Think Scots should rise above it and play only people born in Scotland OR of Scottish parents. No bloodline, no cap. -

And wasn't Gough of Scots parentage, not grandparentage - that makes a BIG difference? -

The RoI are a joke team and they nicked two of our players - McGreedy and McCarthy - under that dubious rule. So we really play into their hands if we do the same. The SFA should make sure that never again can plastic paddies do the dirty on us. -
The lesser spotted Andy Webster had a good run out for Scotland 'B' - even scoring the first. Will he ever get a start in place of Dailly and McCulloch? It's Boogie and Weir for Saturday but next time Boogie is unavailable, there's no excuse not to call him in..
-
Not just another Bougherra - to keep the one we've got should be a priority.
-
All I'm really saying is that you can't always allocate tickets solely on the basis of presumed support. Where did the 200,000 'extra' Gers fans in Manchester turn up from? They're not 'glory hunters.'? Yet we would have expected a 50-50 split for the Eufa final, though I'm sure in theory we have a larger support.
-
Don't forget Queen of the South brought about 15,000 to Hampden. Rangers took about 220,000 to Manchester and our average gate is ...50k? Don't deny the minnows their day out in the sun. Honestly, if we win the league I'll happily forgo the Scottish Cup.

Barry and Edu sounds fine in theory; presumably that means Edu is the sitting MF and Barry would be free to attack and support like he did in the season he got 15 goals. I'm just not sure BF can do that any more..
-
Mendes showed a good range of passing that Barry seems unable to do nowadays. I'm not sure that he plays well with Mendes and I wouldn't drop Pedro for him. That leaves Edu, but it may be that Edu and Mendes are a better combo than BF and Pedro. The Setanta commentators gave plenty of praise to Mendes. Davis too worked his socks off; if he drops out for Barry, then who plays in the centre?
-
Oh Christ, no!! Not another 35-year-old. We're becoming the quick-fix band-aid eleven. It's a simple question - is Danny wilson ready to step up or isn't he? If not, then why do big clubs keep sniffing round him?
-
Agree but then a midfield 5 means who plays as central striker - and we all know Kris B cant play that role - he needs a partner. Lafferty may be could , but would you drop Boyd? Tough one:(
-
Do you mean the Blackpool fan or Charlie?
-
Was sitting here thinking do we have any central midfielders left. Davis and Edu. As a matter of fact, If Pedro is crocked we may just have stumbled on a good MF combination. Interestingly most of the papers give MoM to Davis. Many on here have been saying for long enough that he is best in central MF, while Mendes is inconsistent. Our real problem now is wide right - come in Nacho!
-
If true we should bite their hand off. Just paper talk though.
-
Great article - reminds us all just what a prospect he was. Sadly, he is still a prospect.
-
And we could counteract that by playing Boogie there! He's played there before for other clubs. Although to be fair we probably need him at the back more.

Signings you were not impressed by....

Papac, I suppose as well. Now I can't imagine left back without him - unless it's a fully fit Steven Smith. -
SA - let me cheer you up. THEY will be without Scott Broon, a huge loss for them. Play devil's advocate for a minute and ask yourself who you would play in their MF. Robson, Hartley, Donati or Crosas? Surely any 2 of our lot can match up to them?
-
In the long term I think you are right. It may mean say 3 divisions with up to 60 of Europe's top clubs. Wonder what happened to the Atlantic League idea so beloved of the onetime PSV chairman? Because clubs like that and Ajax and Benfica won't want to be on the outside looking in for much longer.
-
"Sensational" - Jesus, is this what we've come down to? 'Sensational ' would be Robinho or even Machedo on loan but Hughes?
-
I said on another thread that it was unlikely to happen, even though it would be fantastic for the OF. The big four in England would be against, and I cannot see the middle table EPL teams in favour either (turkeys do not vote for Christmas.). The SPL is not big enough for us, the status quo is unsatisfactory, so the the only real long-tem option is some kind of european league where the likes of Ajax, Benfica and other giants need to rival the kind of TV income open only to the EPL.
-
We do need a central midfielder actually.. one who can score the odd goal or two. That was evident today when Edu and Mendes hardly ever got beyond the strikers.

Football bosses plan two Premier Leagues
alexscottislegend replied to johnnyk's topic in General Football Chat
Yep, saw this. Part of me says "yawn, yawn here we go again.." Yet in economic terms it would make sense - it would certainly solve our financial problems. I thought the idea was killed stone dead before when the EPL clubs would refuse to vote for it, not to mention championship clubs who fear the competition from the Old Firm. I'm afraid it sounds like newspapers turning to an old chestnut to fill their pages.
