  1. Cuba is not perfect but it is a remarkable feat to have achieved literacy and developed medicine when faced with the constant interference from the US. Without the sanctions it would be interesting to see what could be achieved. Russia from 1917 till the death of Lenin also saw communism develop the productive forces exponentially. Prior to then Russia was a backward primitive economy.
  2. They'd better bloody well not. When we play them I want them to feel the force of a Tav. penalty in the 98th minute. Can't think of a better way to beat them.
  3. Just because they are paranoid doesn't mean they are not out to get them!
  4. Well, I think authoritarianism based on a fierce nationalism narrows it a bit. though you will no doubt argue that the Soviet experiment ended in extreme authoritarianism and you would be correct. Prior to Lenin's death though that experiment worked pretty well despite interference from imperialist powers.
  5. Not sure the Right would agree with an equitable society though...
  6. No, I think the Right have no quarrel with the capitalist system.
  7. No, but your idea of 'left' and mine are quite different. I'm conservative in many things but progressive inasmuch as I believe we should aspire to a better society.
  8. There is clear photographic evidence of Carey going over the top.
  9. See, that's where your generalisations break down. Taking single issues and categorising all those you don't like as 'left' is destroying intelligent debate.
  10. Drat. Now Phil is gonna have to work one of his magical half-time talks.
  11. I only got 3 right, two of which were I'm proud to be British and I don't like grooming gangs.
  12. Correct. Too many MPs serve their lobbyists.
  13. So the questions to ask are: 1. What power do you have? 2. Who gave it to you? 3. To whom are you accountable? 4. In whose interests do you serve? 5. How can we get rid of you?
  14. So why cannot WE do the same? I accept we cannot compete in the transfer market but surely our academy should be doing much much better.
  15. C'mon Frankie - Manure fans go into meltdown when they drop a point (so do the media). So let's not use exceptionalism as an excuse.
  16. Sorry to raise an old chestnut, but I watched Liverpool last night play 3 teenagers from their academy in a high-pressure cup match. We had Cole McKinnon on the bench; otherwise no sign of our youngsters. Why? If they not deemed 'ready' (as Clement recently claimed of Bailey Rice) then why not? Please don't tell me that there is too much 'must win' pressure at RFC; there cannot be any less pressure at L'pool and ManCity who can afford to spend at will. In fact Scottish clubs in general are too unwilling to play youth. McInnes didn't start with the outstanding David Watson v us, yet we have seen the impact Lennon Miller has had at Motherwell. Even those blighters from the East gave a debut to an 18 year old last night. If our youths are really not good enough, then scrap the academy. I yearn for a Rangers team where at least half are home-grown and have been brought up with the club. The pride that young lad at Anfield felt, moving from Kop to pitch puts our 'policy' to shame.
  17. I wonder where she got that from?
  18. Never mind climate change, AI is the biggest issue the current generation will have to face up to. And not just office jobs; teaching will be impacted and we will have to find new ways of learning.
  19. Retirement should be the best time of your life but only if you have your health. Really, nobody should have to work after 60 but sadly, some of the youngsters are going to be working till they're 70 the way things are going.
  20. "Clowns to the left of me, jokers to the right.."
