  1. It seems that the hierarchy of the club share this view, and we'll start next season with a squad of about 13 senior players. How Walter prefers Naismith to Nacho is beyond me. I just see absolutely nothing in Naismith's game that Novo couldn't do, and couldn't do better
Totally share this view I just don't see Naismith cutting it i don't see anything in his game that convinces me otherwise!
  2. As long ago as last week we were invited but I hear both we and Chelsea are NOT accepting the invitation.

Whether the *******s being in London for the Emirates tournament the same weekend is anything to do with us not accepting, I've no idea......or even if the rumour is true that we've knocked it back.

    Personally I'm hoping it's a goer.

Is the emirates cup the same weekend this year? I remember being down there last year and i think the scum were there the weekend before at wembley!
  3. We must do all we can to get the wee man tied down, while i agree he isn't a world beater what he does give u is heart, fight, hunger and desire and these are things which we need not just on the park but in the squad. He is a great impact player and if boyd does go giving a good few games he could get back to what he gave us 4 or 5 seasons ago and that is 20+ goals. He is not gold digging he has already stated that he would be willing to stay even if rangers don't match what boro' are offering, he must be one of the lowest paid in the squad of around £5000 a week. We need Nacho to stay because he does bring heaps of attributes to the team and his fight and spirit is something that is hard to buy these days!

  4. I've heard the rumours that Rangers have been invited to take part in this years Wembley Cup along with Chelsea. It says on wikipedia that Rangers, Chelsea and un-named La Liga club are taking part anybody got any news on this?

  5. I think the team will be: McGregor, Broadfoot, Whittaker, McCulloch, Weir, Davis, Naismith, Edu, Thomson, Miller, Lafferty

Although we could obviously play Smith at left back and Broadfoot at CB, with McCulloch replacing either Edu or Thomson in midfield. Boyd may also start in place of Naismith. Lafferty is a certainty to start i reckon

Boyd is a stick on to start 2nite i reckon lafferty will drop back to left or he will be on the bench just can't see boyd not starting 2nite especially for his final old firm game!

  6. Just got told that he has 3 serious backers behind him and he is the front! Supposedly 1 of the backers at least is a billionaire! I think we should make aguero our top target this year to play alongside lafferty and get puyol in nxt to big davie weir and maybe messi and mcculloch in the middle of the park

  7. That's a different arguement mate , and I would totally disagree about La Liga the ajority of games I have watched have been very very good , Seria A I would totally agree , the Bundesliga is a brilliant league and the football is excellent , but the majority of players that are brought into the EPl are very substandard and totally over priced .

You only need look at portsmouth , or even the majority of the many players Liverpool have turned over to see that , also once they arrive in the epl they end up staying as the european leagues dont want them back

I think the la liga is a good footballing league i watch it regular what i was saying is that it is exactly the same as the epl its got its top clubs who are fighting for the the top positions and same goes for the bottom! Have to agree with the bundesliga very underrated league they don't have the best players in the world but for excitement and variety it is up there which brings me to another point, the fact the german FA allowed terracing back to the top teams stadium i think has helped it massively. Watch a bundesliga game and the atmosphere is incredible and most games are sell outs! Would love terracing back in scotland but i guess that point is for another thread!

  8. sorry but that just shows how poor the championship actually is , and as for the Epl how many really top class players play in England , by that I dont mean according to the bbc or Sky if there was a european team how many would be from the EPl , just look at the C/L team of the year from the last few years as proof , over paid , over hyped , and generally piss poor games

I didn't say the championship was a good league i said it was a competetive league but u could pick up decent players from it! Outwith Real Madrid and Barca the la liga isnt great either you have teams like Sevilla,Valencia,Atletico Madrid always fighting it out for 3 and 4 place, then Serie A thats worse it is a boring league with boring players and and the same teams at the top.

  9. Is that a good argument for the quality of a league, or quite the opposite.

I think the championship has a decent level of quality, I am not going to say they have world class players but i think they have a good level of quality. They're is a good few players in the championship I think would be good additions to our team. It's of a much higher quality that the spl anyway thats for sure!

  10. Belhadj is probably the only player I would have out of those you have mentioned, I just don't rate them.

You can't be serious mate. http://www.gersnetonline.co.uk/vb/images/smilies/confused.gifHave you seen Dindane this season he has a good goals per game ratio in the best league in the world for a team who is bottom! John Utaka is great big athletic holding midfielder who can also double up and play off the front 2! Tal ben Haim has 50 plus international caps and played champions league football, kevin prince boateng had a good season and is being strongly linked with Man City and Arsenal. Ricardo Rocha another internationalist who has had a decent season and has experience of European football, I am not saying these players are World Class but they could come up to scotland and run amock and be good additions to our team but as u mentioned earlier we could not afford there wages!

  11. sorry mate but you have just joined the " they play in the EPL they must be good club " dont worry you aint alone , european teams have been passing off average players as superstars to the english for years , the term bullshit baffles brains spings to mind

Put another way , Charlie Adam who was nothing more than ok for us is sold for £500,000 , he has an ok season for a team finishing 6th, yes 6th , in the Championship and now he is rated at £ 5 million , now just look at some of the players you mentioned and look at their transfer fee's and wages and go compare with oor charlie .

sorry forgot to add we are as guilty as the english for buying diddy's of agents who took the piss out of Murray and Bain

It's not about me thinking they play in the EPL so they must be good, it's about me watching the EPL and seeing Portsmouth playing that they have good players they have a lot of international players that have played in high level not just with portsmouth with previous clubs aswell! While I agree that Charlie Adam is no way worth £5 million he has had a better than ok season i think he has scored around 20 goals from midfield I would say that is better than an ok season and the Championship is a lot more competetive than half the top leagues in Europe just take Leicester and Nottm Forest for example just up from League one and straight into the Playoffs in there first season back up!

  12. I personally don't rate the Portsmouth players that much, average players for ridiculous wages, even now when they are in administration. Their players for their last cup final I would have taken and we did get one, Mendes.

There is plenty of good players at portsmouth that would walk into most positions in our team for example aruna dindane, john utaka, aaron mokoana, tal ben haim, marc wilson, belhadj, boupa diop, sowah and thats just off the top of my head. To say average players is a bit harsh maybe average premiership players but good spl players! Although i do agree with the wages problem that would be a massive stumbling block for us!

  13. I think goodwillie would be a decent signing for in the SPL, but when we go into the champs league i fear embarrasment again as the players at our signing level just aren't going to be good enough to challenge even the middle of road champs league teams harsh but true! Bougherra is 90% away boyd is 99.9% away although we dont get a transfer fee for him and mcgregor is a good shout to go amongst others aswell i presume, so we should be making at the very least 10 mil for them, whether the whole lot would get reinvested is a different story but i think we need to look at the championship and go sniffing around portsmouth as they are in dire straits financial and they are relegated and they do have a good few decent players. You can also pick up bargains from scandanavia and the like as we have done before!

  14. Would we get compensation for Wilson though? I remember Oldham were livid when Chris Porter joined Motherwell because he was under 24 but they didn't get a penny for him because he moved to another country. I'm pretty sure it's only transfers between the same country where under 24s can't leave for free?

Not to clued up on this ruling but if my memory serves me right was there not a kick up when chelsea signed John Obi Mikel i know man utd were involved in that as well but i am sure there was a tribunal set for that transfer and also the transfer of the young chelsea lad Gael Kakuta i think he was signed from Rennes or a team like that and Chelsea had to go through courts with that one! Not sure but i would reckon if a player is nutured at a club then a club from another country comes in i am sure there is still a fee to be made!

  15. Really don't see Jim o'brien and this tidser character strengthing our squad and kicking on in champs league! Really worried if this is the calibre of player we are now looking to sign! I am not being naive i know we don't have the money to sign the players we did in days gone by but i think we should be aiming higher than these two! We could do a lot worse than delve into the championship and the higher end of league 1 for some good players, although i would say the higher end of championship clubs wages are probs higher than ours! Looking at some of Portsmouth players would be a good idea as well as they are in dire straits and are in real desperate need for money so could pick up a bargain or 2!

  16. Thats a very smart shirt indeed btw
That shirt is smart I really like that! Any chance to starting another campaign like the simply the best 1 and get this top for next season? lol!!!!
  17. Sporting Lisbon could be ready to sell Miguel Veloso after it emerged they may be about to agree a deal for Pedro Mendes.

Sporting are reported to be close to agreeing a £1.5million deal for the Rangers midfielder.

Rangers are in a poor financial position and Mendes is one of the highest earners, so they could be forced to part company.

Reports in Portugal claim a deal in principle is already agreed and now the player is ready to open talks with the Jose Alvalade club.

The news of a possible deal for Mendes comes after fresh reports over Veloso's future emerged.

Veloso's future has long been subject to speculation with Arsenal, Manchester United and Manchester City all said to be keen.

Barcelona were also again linked over the weekend, but the most concrete recent interest appears to have come from Serie A with Fiorentina confirming they would like him.

"We like the player, he made a good impression on us when we faced Sporting Lisbon in the Champions League and we had already followed him in the past," said Fiorentina sporting director Pantaleo Corvino.

"He is a player within our reach, but the problem is that Miguel Veloso wants a starting spot and we cannot guarantee that."
