In reaching an opinion on the likelihood of any deal going to conclusion, you can't ignore the motivations and previous record of those involved. Unfortunately, little is actually new this time around, other that the reports that Craig Whyte is reputed to be a "Rangers man". Whyte appears to have the funds to do the deal but so have others before him. The mystery for me is why Andrew Ellis is still at the table and that sours the whole proposition as far as I'm concerned - in that it casts into doubt the motivation for this deal on both sides. It's only a worthless personal opinion but I'd say there is no more than a 50% chance of any deal being done and considerably less than those odds on a deal being done that genuinely has the interests of club and supporters at heart. Murray is a duplicitous bastard whose interests have never included the wishes of the supporters or what we thought our club was about. Ellis is clearly not driven by emotional ties to the club. Whyte - I've no idea but this "lifelong Rangers fan" stuff may be nothing but PR. On the other hand, Craig Whyte may well have been the driving force behind Andrew Eillis last time around and has simply been forced by Murray to declare his presence as a means of securing certain bank compliance with Murray's plan. Take your pick, I'd say it's a lottery from here on ..... and believe no one who claims to know anything. OK NL? If the RST back the deal you'll know it's a bogey.

Could be. In any case I think you're right to focus on the identity of the others in his management team.

We need to get back to the days when the SFA was entirely comprised of Rangers supporting protestant loyalists. There was never any of this squabbling back then, which only goes to show how effective a strategy it really was. Merry Christmas and ...... punch a pape:devil:

Kenny Miller - Another mercenary or underpaid and undervalued?

As things stand today, it looks likely that Ally McCoist will be the next Rangers manager, whatever we think about it. I'm as guilt as anyone of looking for weakness before the event but the hard truth is than none of us could make a choice and guarantee success, whether we favour experience, Rangers pedigree, or whatever. The call has to be made and if it does turn out to be McCoist then so be it - if he succeeds he will be the ultimate hero, if not then he'll be despised by thousands - but no amount of speculation now will either provide advance insight or lessen the gamble McCoist will be taking with his reputation and his own emotional relationship with the club. Our role is to judge performance and that necessarily comes after the event. Beforehand we can only hope for the best and wish well of whoever is fortunate to be next in a glorious line.

Takeover latest: Ellis & Whyte in Scotland for MIH talks
maineflyer replied to ian1964's topic in Rangers Chat
I've no interest in being anyone's teacher so you'll have to figure it out for yourself. I'll simply say again that Craig Whyte has clear links to Glasgow propery deals. Does that mean Whyte or Libery Capital is or was involved in such deals - as yet I've no idea. Does it mean Whyte or Liberty has intention of becoming involved in Glasgow property deals - I've no idea. My interest is simp,y in trying to see if there is any basis for Craig Whyte or any of his companies having an interest in partnering with Andrew Ellis, who is also in the property development game - as yet I've found nothing to link the two but I imagine it's probably there for anyone with more time to look than I have right now.- 74 replies

Don't be so gullible. I didn't say LC owned Braehead ... But there are plenty of evidence linking Craig Whyte to it. I already gave you one of the names. The point is that Craig Whyte has not shortage of connections to major Glasgow property deals, which may explain why Ellis is still connected to Rangers.- 74 replies

Not surprisingly for a private equity player, it doesn't take much looking before Liberty Capital emerges with significant links to property ventures, including quite a number in Glasgow - Braehead Investments, etc, etc, etc. For those with the means to do so, check out David Andrew Fischel.- 74 replies

Takeover latest: Ellis & Whyte in Scotland for MIH talks
maineflyer replied to ian1964's topic in Rangers Chat
It is Liberty Capital Ltd. It's just not based in the UK - almost certainly a Bahamian company. Tixway Ltd is based in London Tixway UK Ltd is based in Glasgow Neither has Liberty Capital as a shareholder but both are ultimately owned by it. There is also Liberty Capital plc, a London registered company.- 74 replies

So typical of Newcastle, what a farked up shambles of a club. They really need to get over themselves and stop pretending that they'll ever be able to compete against proper football clubs. They were damned lucky to have Hughton and I hope they've won their last EPL point after this.
-
I'd be happy if the club declared it would never again employ a foreign manager. It would simultaneously avoid any repeat of the clueless PLG episode and confirm our sectarian credentials. Just joking there:grin:

Thee's no reason why McCoist can't follow in the footsteps of those other inexperienced Rangers Managers .... such as Walter Smith, Graeme Souness, Scot Symon, Bill Struth and William Wilton. However, neither does lack of experience come as a commendation. The bottom line is that, whatever any of us think right now, we'll only know how good he is when his time is over and we can look back on his achievements - the winners are only ever seen at the finishing line, never when the gun goes off. They all know football. I'm looking for unquestionable commitment to the cause, good communication skills, total leadership, and someone who will stop apologising at every opportunity. Is that McCoist?

Which is another way of confirming he's got zero experience as a manager.

Terrific post ... expresses my point of view exactly. Loved having him at Rangers but when you break that bond I'm afraid it's best if it stays broken.

I'm not sure the unwashed have much to do with either religion or creed ...... they're just ....... bastards.

I agree with Frankie that McCoist is the cheap option and that is why he heads the list at the moment. However, the club needs to avoid losing the opportunity to inject the real momentum that a new manager can provide. At one time appointing McCoist would have electrified the club, less so now. The right appointment could provide the energy and uplift to carry the club through the next five years - it happened with Souness who, it the truth were told, brought very little in the way of management skill or experience but who did bring the feeling of renewal that became an unstoppable tide when backed up with ambition at board level. We've seldom been at such a low ebb and I can almost taste the upswing already. Appointing the right manager is key and it needs to be a bold move .... is that McCoist? BTW, does anyone still remember how to swagger?

Takeover latest: Ellis & Whyte in Scotland for MIH talks
maineflyer replied to ian1964's topic in Rangers Chat
I think the truth may be that those who control political and planning access to any Ibrox property deal have refused to do business with Murray, despite Murray having severely compromised the club and supporters trying to accommodate them. Whyte isn't a property guy, Ellis is. Whyte is seen as a Rangers man, Ellis isn't. Ellis could therefore fit the bill to lead any property deal negotiations - the council needs a Rangers involvement, Rangers need council compliance, both needs the other but first they have to get out from under the cloud of personal scores. Deals are often about brokers. If that's all bullshit (and it probably is) then I haven't a scooby why either Whyte or Murray would even contemplate Ellis being at the table in a deal he can neither fund nor (apparently) contribute to. You have to assume he meets some need or he wouldn't be there.- 74 replies

If so, it's a bold decision ... although less so now than when he first became assistant manager. The most reassuring aspect of McCoist's development is that he has finally learned the merits of keeping his mouth shut and his views out of the media every five minutes. The upside is that he's a Rangers man with increasing experience of management - the downside is that he's also very much a McCoist man with no actual management experience whatsoever.

Sorry but that looks very dubious. Must be a different kind of tribunal than I've ever been involved with. Perhaps he's suggesting that we would be in breach and have to buy out his remaining contract?????
