  1. Facts about 'The First Goal Scorer'

16 games played so far...and which player has scored first...

    4. Tavernier

    3. Clark, Wallace

    2. Waghorn

    1. Temps, Halliday, Shiels, Holt.

Nicky Clark's 3 have all came in cup games (double points)

Most of the predictors on here seem to select top scorer Waghorn, but he's only achieved that feat twice?

Something to consider when selecting your FGS.

There's also a marked difference between home and away; but no need to make it too easy for everyone :D

I've moved these posts out here. Keep the predictions threads for predictions please guys as it makes it easier for me when it comes to collating the predictions to create the results & standings tables.

  2. So it was Zaliukas' fault not Bell's?

I'd say there was an element of bad luck involved, so 'fault' might be too strong a description, but I do think too much was made of Cammy not being able to scramble back for it in time to make the save because it was basically the poor block by Zaliukas which caused the goal.

  3. Let's be honest here if cammy bell hadn't made that horendous mistake at Motherwell we wouldn't be hammering him all the time. Bell wasn't the same when he came back from his injury was he?..

Honestly, it was a nightmare for him and at the day for us, but nothing I would go ballistic about for years. The whole team f*cked up both games, so his mistake was "just" playing up to the same standards as the rest. But how often have we seen this, i.e. keepers scrambling back to the line and failing to make good contact?

The howlers in the play-off games against Motherwell weren't really Cammy Bell's fault. Zaliukas was more at fault than any other individual as his defending was terrible and it was his poor attempt at a block which looped the ball up over Cammy to send him scrambling backwards. Ultimately though, it was just a combination of poor all-round performances and a hefty slice of bad luck.

  4. Does anyone want to write a preview for Tuesday's Challenge Cup game against Livingston?

We're always looking for volunteers to write our match previews, so if anyone fancies writing a preview for a certain match just say which one and we'll put your name down for it!

  5. Yes, I forgot Zelalem; but you're surely not comparing Kiernan, Tavernier, Waghorn with Walcott, Jordan Henderson and Phil Jones etc?

I didn't directly compare those players though, did I? I just pointed out that we haven't been stiffed/shafted on our player acquisitions and that this player management company have a lot of good players on their books.

The players we have acquired are doing very well for us at the level we are contesting at present but I'm told we only got them because KSM had a player that Wigan wanted.

Sounds like a good deal for all parties concerned....

It would be naive to think that Warburton suddenly identified them all as hidden gems.

He already knew these players and what they were capable of. The fact that they might well be hidden gems is a nice wee bonus for us and a very welcome one too surely?

It wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if Eustace was part of the "deal".

Maybe he was, maybe he wasn't, but either way it seems like you're speculating and/or making assumptions?

I know we have talked about the need for a defensive midfield player but does anyone seriously think that the team we have now isn't going to win the League?

If the answer to that is "No", then why take a chance on a 36 year old who's been out the game for nine months with a serious knee injury?

I've thought along similar lines myself as I'm sure loads of others have, but he's a very experienced midfielder of a type which we don't have in the squad, so is it a bad thing to have him as an option and possibly a guide for others to feed off in training?

  6. This whole thing smells to me. His agents are Key Sports Management, the same company that represents Kiernan, Tavernier, Waghorn and Warburton himself. You don't need to be a genius to add up whats going on.

I think you're getting well and truly carried away with the sniff sniff stuff because not only are KSM obviously a respectable company, but it's not exactly as if we've been stitched up with the quality of players the manager's acquired, is it? They apparently represent Zelalem as well btw, but they represent Theo Walcott and a bunch of other Arsenal players too. Should Arsenal fans be worried about it? What about Man Utd, Chelsea, Liverpool, Man City and the other EPL clubs whose players they represent?

  7. Have to say, I'm quite surprised by the RST's poll results on this, but it's a pleasant surprise!

It just goes to show how hard the folk who've been involved in the Trust (both longer term and RST board additions in more recent years) have been striving to improve the group and it's outlook moving forwards.

  8. This seems to be Warburtons style looking for young talent that has fallen by the wayside. It certainly worked with Tav and Waggy and there are certainly some jewels out there if you know what stones to turn over.

He's seen a lot, Spanish football will not have made him worse, his stats show 79 games (aged 24), yet only 6 goals and 4 assists. Well, if W&W see a future Rangers player there, I'm not someone to argue.

When we first signed them quite a few folk talked about not being very impressed by Waghorn & Tavernier's stats and yet here we are now sitting with a couple of gems who've scored a load of goals between them in no time at at all. :)

  9. Away from Eustace the boss has some decisions to make about his returning international players ahead of Saturday’s game against Queen of the South.

Fraser Aird was in Canada, Gedion Zelalem was in the USA competing in the Olympic Games qualifiers for Rio 2016 and Nathan Oduwa travelled to Germany with the England under-20s.

After the international break Warburton is keen to get back on a winning streak again, but he stressed he isn’t planning ahead.

He said: “Hopefully we will be all good for Saturday; we have to be honest with the young boys coming back.

“Fraser Aird arrived at 7am this morning on a transatlantic flight, Gedion did the same yesterday, Nathan has been away and so has Ryan Hardie playing games.

“These are young bodies and I am delighted for them to get their international call-ups and they will benefit from the experience but our job is to make sure we look after them and make sure they’re best prepared.

Some food for thought for pete's match preview!? :)
