Premiership and MLS clubs can pay big wages. Is this guy taking a pay cut to come here? Will we get value from whatever we are paying him? There is a risk that, perhaps while the sporting director role works for wealthy clubs, or continental clubs who have utilised this model for several decades and worked out the kinks, it may not work for us. We have tried it with Allen, Wilson and to a degree Koppen. I am still to see the value it creates. I get there will be an argument about structure, visions, club philosophy etc. In fact we have heard it for several years now. We have never managed to get it started. Youth system synergy with formations and systems, farming out players on loan, game models, player trading models. All these things remain a pipe dream, we look on across the globe at other clubs, some far smaller, in envy at their capabilities in these areas. I remain unconvinced that this is necessary to punch down on small fish we need to contend with most weeks.

I cant see it happening for many reasons but the main one being it would set a precedent, Paris is relatively as close to England as Glasgow is, no reason why PSG wouldn't try to jump ship for example.

The boy who was a scout when Wilson was here and was involved in singing massive duds like Ridvan, Matondo and Ben Davies is still here and was given a promotion. Wilson was never a scout. He didn’t do a good job here by any means but he didn’t identify players. The scouts did, and many of the same faces who have failed over the years need replaced before we start recruiting again. That’s the biggest value Koppen can add this close season.

If we dont at least get knocked back by him we are not doing it right.

I think one of the hipster list would be fine as long as our recruitment team start getting players who can play more than 15 games a season. They also have to have the aggression and physicality needed for SPFL football. Dont expect directors to vet anyone, but I think the club should have some governance around who gets PR and pictures with club ambassadors inside Ibrox. In a way we were lucky it was some Irish Republican that sneaked in, could you image the self loathing many support would have for themselves if it was a unionist equivalent? The daily record would have a field day. The everyone anyone loyal would be queuing up at the doors to have a pop at our dyed in the wool blue nose custodians.

I’m not saying that at all, I’m saying we should measure ourselves by our standards. Which seem to have been long forgotten sadly.
