  1. Don't usually post on RST threads for the reason that I've never been a member, but I'd like to know one or two things.

On RM, Manticore used to post some manifesto type drivel written by MD all about how Rangers was a British, right wing, Protestant etc club and that lefty types who disagreed could jog on. Being a lefty type who disagreed I was therefore not very keen on his Mb or his RST, which is very definitely what it looks like from the outside. Seeing as the club is in crisis (crises?) and seeing as Frankie says above, that FF and the RST are (unbelievably to me) likely to be influential with new owners, whoever they may be, I feel a bit torn between getting involved with people I fundamentally disagree with and doing nothing while Rome, if you'll pardon the expression, burns. So can I ask:

does the RST have a 'baggage' agenda? to give an eg, I'd sack the lad who was lifted for sectarian BoP last week if found guilty, since in the wake of the Lennon bombs we just can't have that sort o'thing around us. What would their stance be on that type of affair? Was it they, eg, who stuck the pointless 'to hell with the SNP' rhyme on the march banner? Being a card carrying member I could hardly walk behind that, it would be like going to an SNP meeting and marching behind a 'to a hell with The Rangers' banner! Are they overtly nationalistic, like the VBs? Is it really a bunch of puppets, all guided by the unseen hand of one individual?

Hope no-one is offended by these questions but it's pretty hard to see through the fog.

I can throw no light on the beliefs or baggage of the RST as I've never been a member and rarely visit FF. However for a while now I've wondered if perhaps change could be affected better from the inside than the outside of the RST. I also don't know if I've the energy or the time to find out. I suppose what I'm saying is I'd be more open to them if I thought they were a broader church.

As an aside I've never understood the 'right wing' accusation, not judging by the voting patterns in pretty much every constituency in Scotland we're not, but that's probably for another thread.

  2. We had the Edmiston Club for a while of course. Going into any other business is always a gamble for a football club. Ultimately it isn't what we're good at so we take a chance we can get good staff, manager etc. The cyclical nature of pubs and clubs means that eventually it will cost us money.

Kilmarnock's hotel should serve as a warning to all clubs.

  3. Whether it's been engineered or not we're reaching the stage where almost anyone who could 'rescue' the club will be welcomed by a decent percentage of the support.

This process hasn't so much shown that we are a divided support, all supports have divisions, but that we've got a large section who are apathetic to issues of ownership, corporate governance and what Rangers should stand for. Too many are still looking for a oil sheik or oligarch to come to the rescue and plough millions into the club. That's both unrealistic and not preferable, for me at least.

It has surprised me that more has not been said by the bidders about where they see Rangers in the future, how they are owned, how they'll be run, where we'll play and what kind of club we'll be etc. The Blue Knights have tried to an extent but even they've failed to get past the initial stages. No one has sold us a vision of the future yet, that's surprising and suggests perhaps some of them don't actually have one.

  4. As an aside in all this a thought has been in my mind for a few days now. In these litigious times what chance the SFA are culpable in this fiasco. They after all are the organisation that control and oversee Scottish football and whatever else they've been doing they've not been overseeing Rangers well in recent seasons (or Hearts or Aberdeen or Kilmarnock or countless other cubs).

On top of that this often mentioned 'fit and proper' persons rule. It's an ambiguous rule at best but you do have to ask was it applied, if so by who and on what grounds? I ask this question not just of their diligence in the last few months but over the last decade or so. My (our) club is in Administration, I'm getting lectured about why the 'fans' didn't do more to stop this and so forth. Fair enough, but where were the authorities, why weren't they stepping in. These people are able to fine our club if we step out of line, well someone didn't do their job correctly so perhaps we should consider shining a harsh light on them sometime soon.

  5. Hello all, I joined ages ago but never quite found the time to visit very often. Anyway, the big message saying I should make my first post in the 'informal lounge' was compelling. We live in interesting times so I thought I'd better make a neutral post before jumping in on the other stuff. You don't want to know anything else about me I'm really dull.
