    By Danny Stewart

DANNY WILSON and John Fleck have been left stunned by suggestions they have set their sights on England.

Rangers teenage stars, who still have 18 months to run on their contracts, have been unable to agree on new deals.

Repeated attempts by Chief Executive Martin Bain to broker pay packages have stalled.

And on Friday manager Walter Smith said it appeared the pair saw their futures elsewhere and were putting contracts ahead of their careers.

That has shocked Wilson and Fleck, both of whom have been Rangers supporters since boyhood.

    Baulked

Wilson has baulked at accepting a new four-year deal.

It is understood that was in response to an offer heavily weighted towards appearances.

And while there is interest in the young central defender from Manchester United and Spurs, his desire is to stay at Ibrox, albeit on his terms.

Fleck is like-minded. Mainly used off the substitutes bench this season, he helped set up Nacho Novos winner at Hamilton yesterday.

His only wish is to do so with Rangers. In any case, there are no clubs currently queuing up to try and lure him south.

The players advisors, the Stellar Group, were last night tight-lipped on the situation.

All a spokesman would say was, ââ?¬Å?Our clients are fully committed to Rangers Football Club.ââ?¬Â

great news give them a 5 year contract worth 5 grand a week and if they keep playing better give them a pay rise bain :spl:

  5. Alastair Johnston has flown in I know we're all sick of rumour and speculation but noted a couple of low key reports this week saying our Chairman has unexpectedly flown back to Scotland from his Florida base.

He seems to make a personal appearance (at least as far as I can see) whenever something is going on regarding the Club's financial status. Assuming Bain is handling transfer business - is it possible he is indeed here to oversee something much larger?

  6. found this on another board but I can't find a proper link to the article. I have searched the AFR website but I think a lot of the stories are member only. Has anyone heard anything about this or is it silly season?

    Australian Financial Review

Media moghul Jamie Packer(pictured right) allegedly has his eye on investing in a British soccer club.Scottish giants Rangers F.c from Glasgow are reported to be his target

It is believed he will invest with a South African consortium with Packer being the major share holder should the venture go ahead. The main drawcard for the fairfax heir will be the chance

to build a string of casinos in the U.K and on the European continent with the sporting investment being a sideline investment.

Packer, who like his late father has a love for sport and gambling would be following his fathers ambitions of investing in sport.Indeed it was the late Kerry Packer who handed N.R.L club Sydney Roosters

$80 million dollars to buy a side capable of winning the championship in the ninties and they achieved that within there first year of his investment. However the shennigans with salary caps was enough to scare Packer senior

away from the N.R.L,a problem that does not exist in the European soccer front.

  7. he is playing for celta vigo he is doing ok he should have been given a chance he had great pace and i thought he had a great touch aswell anyway i would not be suprised in about 3 or 4 years he will be at real madrid or barcelona

  8. The issue of contracts is one, among certainothers, that has dominated headlines coming from Ibrox in recent weeks.

Now that the managerial teamââ?¬â?¢s situation has been clarified, until a new buyer arrives ââ?¬â?? whenever that may be ââ?¬â?? the focus of contractual matters has turned onto the players.

Six Rangers stars are in the last six months of their deals; but only one occupies the thoughts of every Rangers fan.

Kris Boyd, the great enigma, as he has so often been labelled. For me, there is no real enigma. He scores goals, plenty of them, and should be secured on a new deal as quickly as possible.

If the most recent soundbites are accurate, there has been a relaxation of the financial noose placed around Ibrox by the banks.

To such an extent that talks with the representatives of Boyd, Nacho Novo, Kirk Broadfoot, Davie Weir, Stevie Smith and DaMarcus Beasley will soon begin.

Boydââ?¬â?¢s agent, Mark Donaghy, should be the first one in the door at Murray Park ââ?¬â?? as a matter or urgency.

Firstly, his client is absolutely right to demand parity with those at the club who take home much more on a weekly basis than he does, yet contribute far less.

Only Boyd, the club and Donaghy know the fine details of his wage, but if we are to believe some of the figures, he earns around £9000 a week.

Those were the figures mentioned a year ago when Birmingham came in and tried to lure him south after Rangers accepted a bid in excess of £3million for his services, only for the wage packet on offer to fall short and scupper the deal.

At the weekend, just before he blasted home another double to take his SPL goals tally to 153 ââ?¬â?? now just five behind Henrik Larssonââ?¬â?¢s record ââ?¬â?? Boyd was being linked with moves to Turkey, Spain, Germany and England. Given his goals haul, that is not surprising.

But the real issue here is about Boyd and Rangers. A decision has to be made, and straight questions asked. Do you want to stay? How much are you offering?

For me, its that simple. Here we have a dyed-in-the-wool Rangers fan who loves playing for the club and his goals, no matter the holes people want to pick in his record, are crucial.

Take him out of the side, even with money to replace him, and where would Rangers title defence be?

I think, if the money is right, Boyds first option would be to stay. He is settled, as is his family, and he knows the beat he pounds every week.

He still has time to move away in the future and be a success trying something else.

All he has to do to see evidence of that is look at his pal Barry Ferguson thriving on a new lease of life at Birmingham.

Rangers, then, ought to show Boyd the money. A decent contract, given that its the most important of his life so far, should be offered to a player who deserves huge praise for the way he has kept going, despite all the knocks to his confidence.

darrell is spot on give boyd a 3 year deal worth 12 grand a week and everybody will be happy

  9. RANGERS directors will hold a board meeting today on the eve of what promises to be one of the stormiest annual general meetings in the club's history.

At the board meeting, the directors will discuss how to deal with questions over how the club is being run which are likely to be raised from the floor at tomorrow's AGM.

It follows statements made by manager Walter Smith that the club's bank, Lloyds Banking Group, was in effect running the in-debt club, statements refuted by owner Sir David Murray.

Company turn-around specialist Donald Muir was elected to the board in October and is likely to be re-elected in Monday's meeting, but it could be opposed.

There are fears among Rangers directors that it is the difficulties in other areas of Sir David's huge business interests (Murray International Holdings has debts of £759 million) that are prompting the bank to keep a far closer eye on the club.

Last week in Scotland on Sunday, Sir David confirmed that he was prepared to sell the club, and said that Rangers had to live within their financial means, but denied the bank was running the club.

But sources close to Rangers have told Scotland on Sunday: "Senior directors believe that Donald Muir is on the board to pursue the agenda of the bank."

Muir is employed by the Murray group, but it is believed the bank were closely consulted before his appointment.

Rangers announced last month that they had made an annual loss of £12.7m for the year to 30 June, 2009, with their debt rising to £31.1m.
