  1. I dont know what I am laughing at more, the notion that Ferguson has something to apologise to the Tranny Army for, or the notion that they will forget about it.

Ferguson would be better advised leaving the national set-up well alone, he has nothing to prove at that level, and the team has no chance of qualification anyway.

Forgot to comment on this, I think Fergie is sort of hoping to get to 50 caps so that he can get into the Hall of Fame, well I hope so...

  2. I wouldn't mind seeing a diamond formation although that might be difficult as a fair few of our players are central based and we would probably get over run. The main reason I would like to see a diamond is to see McFadden behind the strikers.

I also don't think it would be wise to play imo our best strike force, Boyd and Miller, against the Czech's. Boyd and Flecther or Iwelumo and Miller in no way should Boyd and Iwelumo should play together. I'm not sure about Fletcher and Miller partnership either.

  3. What?! Fletchers name is there only because he plays for man u?!?! Hes been one of man uniteds best players this season. Having his best ever season and you were tempted to replace him with ADAM, who plays for BLACKPOOL! Can't understand that!

Fletcher never performs in a Scotland shirt.

  4. Not bad, no games too near the start or end of a season, so the players should be up to speed. And playing Spain means they will have taken all points from the other teams they are going to, meaning we will know exactly where we stand. I think the SFA have done a good job there. But why the Friday nights?

It's a bit of a joke for Friday night games. Its to do with players coming back late and moaning club managers. The police won't look after Friday night games either. Plus the hassle of actually getting to the games is going to be hard as well, well done UEFA for another bright but shite idea.

  5. Read some comments from AJ with interest today. If we win the league we may be in a position to do things in the transfer market. Bosman signings were also mentioned a few times. It seems short term and long term strategies are being put in place and not before time.

I'm not sure how feasible it is for us to reduce our costs to such an extent that we are still able to maintain competitive in seasons where we HAVE failed to make the Champions League.

I thought we would have been looking at Bosmans last season at least its progress.

Tbh we spent money to win the league and we did, but the Kaunas disaster cost us a lot.

  6. We cannot go down the Arsenal route , they pay an absolute fortune on their young players , something we would never be able to afford . Better coaching and more time working with a ball would help , you kids are generally fit anyway so why we waste time running is beyond me , it should all be about ball control at least until 15 or 16 , fitness can always be worked on later , that's what the europeans believe from what I have seen and read

Yes, too much is put onto height and strength with Scottish players rather than the technical aspects of the game and keeping the ball for long periods. Thats why a lot of small players get rejected and end up being top quality. I'm pretty sure Copenhagen rejected Modric cause he was too small.

  7. "All we can do as players is get on with our jobs. Yes, it would have been great if the manager had had some money to bring in new faces.

All the players could take a massive wage cut to help the club :)

Yeah, that isn't likely unless nothing happens during the summer.

  8. As one of Walter Smith's biggest critics i am going to shock everyone and say i don't think it would be good to have a massive shake up unless the new owner has millions to spend. Walter has actually pleasantly surprised me with the shape of the team since December.

If we are going to go for a new manager which i think we will as Walter will chuck it whatever happens imo, I would not surprisingly go Dutch. Fred Rutten(PSV) Gertjan Verbeek(Heracles) Ron Jans(Groningen) would be my best picks.

Steve Mclaren would have been also a favourite but i am getting a bit pissed off with his touchline antics.

Jimmy Calderwood would be my Scottish choice as i feel he did a good job in Holland and at Aberdeen and seems to have revamped Killie.

Calderwood :???: a Rangers man yes right for the job, I'm not so sure.

As the OP says I would like to see better scouting networks around the world but not spend vast amounts of money on the youngsters.

  9. Quoting that timmy piece Zappa posted:

Tims are generally a pretty thick bunch but occasionally one shows evidence of grey matter. This guy is pointing out what I've known (and quite possibly everyone has known) ever since half way through the WBA season in the EPL where Mowbray got his team relegated quite embarrassingly - 'Mogga' is an astoundingly stubborn manager - when asked if he'd shore up his defence during that season (after yet another 4-0 mauling) he said he'd keep on playing the way he plays.

He cannot, will not and refuses to adapt per game and to the strengths of the players he has. Instead he persists with one rigid 'attacking' formation which completely negates defence - it's why even with a completely new set of players, he's getting exactly the same results as the old lot did.

Hibs was his level, a decent team who were able to be in the top 4 fairly rigidly in the SPL with a really excellent collection of players (Brown, Caldwell, Zaluiska I believe, Riorden, Jones, Sproule, Whittaker, Thomson). A team which less was expected of and which really did have a group of quality players - but not one which would get close to winning the league.

Put him in a much better league (EPL) and he drowned, put him in charge of Celtic and he's going even deeper.

He is indeed fundamentally flawed, and I sincerely hope he stays in the job for years to come.

Zaulska was bought from Dundee Utd, I think it was Zbie Malkowski who was in goals at Hibs.

Good points made there. His attacking philosophy is flawed and he is too stubborn to change, you would think an ex-defender would focus more on defence than attack. Although in some ways John Hughes works it quite well but he does have a reasonable squad at his disposal.

  10. That doesn't make sense. If he was booked and has crossed the threshold, he misses the game. Unless the number of points each booking attacts depends on the offence but I haven't heard anything like that before, for bookings at least.

Its points, violent conduct is 3 points and obstruction is 2 points.
