It looks like he'll struggle to feature and our lack of striking options remains a concern.

An injury to one or both of Lafferty (hardly inconceivable) leaves us very short.  The semi is just one game so hopefully Grezda or Middleton can play there but if we were to lose either of our two strikers for any length of time then we could be in big trouble.

There is the option of bringing in a free transfer but that in itself is hardly the best solution given these guys are likely to be well short of full fitness.

If I was the gaffer I’d be making a call to Darren Bent. Give him a few reserve games to get up to speed with a view to playing in the semi.

I think the difference is they seem to have tricky players like McGregor, Ntchan, Forrest and Rogic that will create things out of nothing. I would say that is the where we are slightly lacking but I hope Grezda/Middleton/Kent/Ejaria can be our wild cards. Saying that we have a better back 4/5. I suppose it's about balance

Ah I forgot Ntcham (who I think on his day is a great player btw).

I would say we have a far better back 5 (Tierney is so over rated)

  3. This Rangers team seems to get better every week.

For the first time in years we are able to make a handful of changes without sacrificing the quality.

The media are forever telling us that Celtic without doubt have the strongest squad in Scotland in fact some pundits made claims that it would cost Rangers £100m to catch them. Well looking at the following:

    McGregor or Gordon

    Tavernier / Flanagan or Lustig

    Barisic / Flanagan or Tierney

    Goldson/Katic/Worrall or Boyata/Hendry/Benkovic

    Coulibaly/Arfield/Ejaria/Jack/Dorrans/Halliday/Rossiter or Brown/Rogic/McGregor/Mulumbu/Morgan

    Kent/Candieas/Grezda or Forrest/Sinclair/Christie

    Morelos/Lafferty ro Edouard/Griffiths

I would say there ain't much between the match squads.

We can't base this on their career prior to joining Rangers.

They have virtually the same stats, however, the difference being Sandaza was playing in the Third Division (or was it Second?), whereas Kerkar was playing in the SPL.

    Sandaza's worse, for me.

Sandaza also went on to have a decent career though mate .

It wasn't talent that Sandaza lacked - he just wasn't interested.

Kerkar looked like he had never seen a ball before.

I'll take your Celik, and raise you Sandaza. The guys we had in the lower divisions were of a lower calibre anyway, but Sandaza was poor even in that context.

Nope Kerkar was worse - Sandaza has had a far better career as well.

He sticks in mind as being the worst player I’ve ever seen during his brief cameo. He truly was awful.

Surely that  award goes to Salim Kerkar?

I was surprised we let Zak Rudden go on loan without any sort of replacement.

Morelos, Lafferty and Sadiq doesn't scream depth (or goals actually) but I guess we can always sign a free agent in an emergency (or perhaps we have the option to recall Hardie or Rudden).

Any suggestions mate? I was very surprised we never went for another Striker.

  8. This is the model Liverpool operate.

Instead of paying a hefty loan fee up front, you pay a loan fee at the end based on appearances.

Its not really a penalty as I imagine the club will have factored in that our loanees may not play every game.

The gaffer will have no hesitation in leaving the loanees out if they are not cutting it.

To say Celtic are miles ahead is rubbish' Charlie Nicholas insists Rangers are closing gap on rivals

Former Hoops striker reckons Steven Gerrard's team are improving and believes Ibrox side will be in ascendancy when next derby comes around.

Charlie Nicholas reckons Celtic aren't as good as advertised and rivals Rangers are closing in the gap between the pair.

Steven Gerrard suffered a 1-0 defeat in his derby debut on Sunday and Celtic dominated the match as they made it 12 games without defeat against their Ibrox foes.

Nicholas, who played for Celtic during two spells in the 80s and 90s, believes Rangers will be in the ascendancy when the next league match comes around on December 29.

Speaking in his Express column, the Sky Sports pundit doesn't believe the Ibrox side are frozen by fear when they take on Brendan Rodgers' team, despite the long wait for a victory.

He said: "To say Celtic are still miles ahead is rubbish. They should have put the game to bed but Rangers were never out of it, no matter how average they played.

"Were Rangers scared? I don't think so. They are trying to become winners again and that takes time and a bit of tinkering.

"Rangers will improve by the next game at Ibrox and I believe they will have the momentum by that point.

"It might be their worst domestic start in 29 years but they are progressing under Steven Gerrard.

"Yes, they didn't have enough of a go, but they didn't crumble either."

Nicholas was also less than impressed with his former side's celebrations following the 1-0 win on Sunday and says they were not befitting of a team who aren't even leading in the Premiership.

He added: "Celtic did a lap of honour Sunday. What was that all about?

"You are second in the league and milking it when you are meant to be the best team in the country and you are the champions.

"This Celtic squad is closer to the pack than they actually realise.

"It was three points and a deserved win against Rangers but they are still looking up at Hearts. That is the reality where they are."

  10. An Old Firm game at parkhead is difficult at the best of times.

Not forgetting that we had less than two days to prepare, or the fact that we were missing arguably our best midfielder in Coulibaly, or the fact that we had 6 debutants who imo were over awed by the occasion in the first half.

Make no mistake Sunday was a bitter pill to swallow but I can only hope it leads to complacency on their part when they visit a packed Ibrox in December.

Let’s be proud of our achievements thus far. People like to group ourselves, hearts, hibs and aberdeen together - but when was the last time any of them qualified for a major European competition?

Good for him but not good for us tbh. If he is a regular squad member he could be doing a lot of travelling and that sometimes has an adverse effect on players from South America.

I think it is great for us - raises our profile once again and inflates his price.

It also shows other South Americans that you can get a call up for your country whilst playing for Rangers.

Surprises me, I thought he was a stick-on but better for us if Jack gets time to rest.

Wouldn't be surprised if he gets called up after call-offs though.

    edit

We are very light up front.

Gives him extra motivation for the next two games.

  13. The atmosphere was rather nervy tonight, however we seemed to be in control of the game from the off - except for 2 or so minutes after we scored.

Ufa came to get a draw and were very difficult to break down. The fact that we managed to keep another clean sheet gives me confidence for next week.

    @ian1964 changed days indeed.
