educate me as i dont know of these world championships you speak of. all i know is 1950 was the first WC england travelled to? some twenty years after the cup was started. Your right, the media do think england have a devine right to win against minnows - do you not think this transfers to the players? My dislike for england stems from the fact that england and in particular their media seem to think they have a devine right to win the WC. Based on a single trophy win in '66 when the format was different and there were less teams. I mean ffs uruguay won the first WC but i cant imagine their media going wild everytime the WC comes around - expecting an appearance in the final as a minimum. What else have england achieved since '66 that gives them the right to subject everyone to this arrogant "we have the best league in the world ra ra ra we're the best" attitude? Anyone who isnt in the top 10 in the world rankings are continually put down by commentators and patronised by the team - case study: playing 4-3-3 against NI away from home?! I dont know many international sides that are stupid/arrogant enough to play a 4-3-3 away from home. Especially not against a team that would be dying to beat them. Oh and then we had... Motson hardly speaking when england went a goal down and Ian Wright throwing his rattle out the pram in the studio after the game. So cammy, THATS why people loved it when they got beat that night, and in general THATS the sort of thing that makes people LOATHE england.

thing about the game today and paraguays game is the fact that england have the ability and the squad depth to bully there way through games like this. The subs they made were smart as two wingers stretched the defense and gave crouch that room to get a header in. However, why doesnt sven just start with that formation?! start lennon or walcott and use their frightening pace to unsettle defenses. By playing beckham out wide and cole on the left, england get far too narrow and end up just playing the long ball up to crouch or trying to pick out owen on a cross. Sven has a complex where he thinks he HAS to play gerrard, lamps AND cole in the midfield. (we now he wont EVER drop beckham)

thing is danny that england ARE quite strong defensively. Their reputation will preceed them if they get ecuador - meaning ecuador will probably sit back and try break against england. Which wont work. Costa rica had the right idea against germany - counter attack in numbers and try give yourself a chance. (Obviously costa rica's defense are pants thats why they lost against ecuador and germany but you get what i mean)

hmm, your making me doubt myself now danny! in reference to clive I'm talking about games that dont involve ANY english teams- i.e - lyon vs milan in the champions league. In reference to lawrenson etc - The one stand out from this tournament was when he went "oh theres ronaldinho... hes brazils rooney, but this brazil team have four rooneys" at the brazil vs croatia game. no... they have four players that are fecking better than rooney. (not debating it - basing it on the fact they have achieved more at all levels).

For all the champions league games he commentates on, clive hardly mentions the EPL. As compared to cunts like Lawrenson and Pearce who CONTINUALLY focus on premiership based players who are playing at that time.

i dont fancy ecuador to do anything against the english. They dont create too many chances (albeit they take the ones they do) but i reckon they would be more likely to just sit back against the bigger teams. How they fare against the germans in the last game of the group should be a good gauge as to how they will do in the next round.

Too many pundits i think are trying to immitate motson in the way that they just try and fill voids by spewing shite about things they think will be interesting to the viewers.
