I'm sure in an emergency, one of them could be recalled....
  2. Desperate times indeed...Bill's started arguing with himself...?
  3. It's essentially the usual opposition argument...."You're arsing it all up....we will do it right". Then they get the chance & do bugger all differently. With the Brexit stuff, I get the impression that the EU's requirements have been clear from the start....Labour are not likely to change things.
  4. Labours biggest problem with this is that they'd probably lose a GE anyway....so whats the point in pushing for it in the 1st place. Even if they won the GE would they ACTUALLY do anything different.
  5. Check the posts in this group.....you will find very few that are labour or tory bad!!!!
  6. Abolish the career politician!!! Biggest problem is that the "upper classes" have been running the UK political system since it's inception....there is no way they are going to hand over control.
  7. I would go further & say that this will not be widely publicised in ANY countries media....The Catholic church is immensely wealthy & very powerful - wonder how much dirty they have on powerful world figures
  8. For once, you speak wise words. Agree 100%
  9. Nobody is playing the victim..... Simply pointing out a topical news story, that the usual suspects have failed to mention on this forum (which they normally do with ANY SNP bad story)
  10. some folk will pay good money for that
  11. Take the 1st article about O'Hara....His "Hun" comments were made in direct context to Rangers supporters & is a common term used by them to describe us, regardless of religion. In the context of the story, I would argue that it is not a blatant Anti-protestant slur (to a wider audience). Ill advised comment...most certainly. In the 2nd article....it is all about comments etc directly at Rangers fans, not specifically Anti-Protestant. I'm not saying the comments highlighted in either article are right....but are made under completely different circumstances & context to Andy Kerr's comment. Now the comments made by Andy Kerr, we made to a complete stranger - a supporter of the party he represents, in an event that has NO religious undertones or connections, yet he felt it fitting to pass comment about the person crossing herself & "joking" that he shouldn't let her speak to fellow members as a result of that action. That is a comment that is made 100% due to religious prejudices.
  12. so folk are more concerned about WHO is "misbehaving", rather than what they are getting up to??? https://www.express.co.uk/news/politics/946692/conservative-MP-charlie-elphicke-sexual-harassment-accusations https://www.ft.com/content/cde3aede-881c-11e8-b18d-0181731a0340 https://www.ft.com/content/5e6a296c-6e9e-11e8-92d3-6c13e5c92914 https://www.standard.co.uk/news/politics/leaked-spreadsheet-reveals-sexual-harassment-claims-against-36-mps-a3670961.html https://www.standard.co.uk/news/politics/leaked-spreadsheet-reveals-sexual-harassment-claims-against-36-mps-a3670961.html Clearly NOT an isolated incident....but not all of them are "big" name, so it doesn't matter.
  13. I'm not comparing this directly with Wee Ecks case.....given is position, it is expected to be more note-worthy. However, that doesn't detract from this particular case where a 3rd party felt that they had to step in due to the internal process.
  14. You have mentioned SPECIFICALLY about ANTI-PROTESTANT comments....throwing some names out there doesn't cut it. Lets see the actual comments that have been made.
  15. Gonzo obviously believe that due to them being Unionist politicians, that they should not be scrutinised as much or as closely as an Independence supporting politician.
  16. but they should not be given the opportunity to question them directly - That was the plan until Rape Crisis stepped in.
  17. which are???? (I'm expecting a long list here....)
  18. That's got sod all to do with party members conduct. There's are political representatives that are receiving salaries from the public purse, but because the support the Union, there actions shouldn't be questioned???
  19. Look at the reaction to the post on here about Wee Eck's accusations - 6 pages of comment!!! How many do you think this one will run to??? While he has been cleared of the allegation, the process involved certainly leaves a lot to be desired - Accused being given the opportunity to DIRECTLY question the accuser without representation (in a hotel room..). Press conference about the outcome being scheduled BEFORE the outcome was known. There are certainly questions as to how thorough the process was & whether the outcome had been predetermined. But hey, it's not about the SNP, so we're not interested....
  20. A Tory MP who was cleared BY HIS OWN PARTY, following an internal investigation where they wanted the accuser to be interviewed by the accused, and had already arranged a press conference BEFORE the investigation outcome had been made!!!! An outcome that was decided AFTER the accuser refused to be interrogated by the accused while unaccompanied by a representative, and AFTER Rape Crisis Scotland stepped in. As for an "ill advised" comment.....that's one way of completely under play a comment made by a senior member of a party that is being hauled over the coals due to various anti-religious comments/actions @ an event that was being streamed live to thousands of people.....but hey, it's light hearted. Now take either of these events & change Conservative/Labour to SNP.....I can guarantee that it would be splashed over every newspaper, web site, news bulletin as a MAJOR scandal, with demands that heads should roll & jobs lost. I would also put money on it that both would have been posted on here prior to me doing it!!! These are just a number of ongoing examples of "scandals" involving other parties across the UK, which may folk don't appear to get their knickers in a twist about....but when it's connected to the SNP, it's a different kettle of fish.
  21. Simply highlighting hot topics within the world of politics.....
  22. Appears to be another "hot topic" that Bill has missed..... At the recent Labour party conference (the link contains a video of the comment): Andy Kerr asks Labour delegate 'did you cross yourself?' A Scottish Labour official is heard telling a party conference delegate she might not be called to speak after he thought he saw her "crossing" herself. Andy Kerr was chairing the afternoon session of the UK party's annual gathering in Liverpool when the remark was made. It was towards the end of a debate on party rule changes and Mr Kerr was picking out the final three speakers from the audience. During live coverage on the BBC's Parliament channel he is heard, but not seen, saying: "Seeing as you are being persistent, I am going to take you. "Did you cross yourself there? In that case I might not." The woman in question was not identified in the footage. Mr Kerr later apologised "unreservedly" for the "ill-judged and wrong" comment. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/av/uk-scotland-scotland-politics-45627255/andy-kerr-asks-labour-delegate-did-you-cross-yourself
  23. It would appear that Bill hasn't been keeping up to date with current bad things going on in the political world (he wouldn't just report on SNP bad stories...would he??) Tory MSP Miles Briggs has been cleared following an internal investigation. Originally he wanted to "interview" his accuser face-to-face, until Rape Crisis Scotland stepped in. Party bosses were ok for this to happen. Note that this complaint was lodged in July of this year, following an event in February of this year. 'CHANGE NEEDED' Rape Crisis Scotland slam Tories over ‘intimidating’ process that saw MSP Miles Briggs cleared of sexual harassment leaving complainer ‘sad and angry’ The Lothian MSP was cleared at a hearing on Monday but the Conservatives have been blasted by the charity who say their 'inappropriate' procedures for dealing with the claim is 'why women are reluctant to come forward' By Ewan Mowat 25th September 2018, 10:50 am Updated: 25th September 2018, 12:09 pm RAPE Crisis Scotland have slammed the Tories over the ‘intimidating and inappropriate’ hearing that saw MSP Miles Briggs cleared of alleged sexual harassment by his own party. The complainer said she was “sad and angry” as the Tory MSP was cleared of any wrongdoing and claimed the ‘terrible’ process meant the outcome was “written from very early on”. PA:PRESS ASSOCIATION 3 Tory MSP Miles Briggs was cleared of alleged sexual harassment by his own party The Lothian MSP spoke out about his ‘two months of hell’ after the disciplinary hearing concluded yesterday but the charity says the ‘adversarial’ process needs “urgently changed”. Briggs was accused of making persistent unwanted advances to a female worker from another party at a parliamentary social event in February. The woman lodged her official complaint with the Conservatives in July, with the Lothian MSP being cleared this week. But Rape Crisis Scotland – who work across all forms of sexual violence, including harassment – have blasted the party for their “intimidating” process that worried them so much they advised the complainer and witnesses not to attend the hearing. 903 people are talking about this Twitter Ads info and privacy Taking to Twitter, the charity said: “This is why women are reluctant to come forward with sexual harassment complaints. “The woman in this case faced a process which was intimidating and inappropriate. “She was asked to attend a hearing, without representation, to be questioned by the MSP she had made the complaint about. “When we raised concerns about this, the Conservative party offered for her to be ‘cross examined’ by the chairman, who would put Mr Briggs’ questions to her, along with questioning from the rest of the committee. “We pointed out repeatedly that an adversarial approach such as this was not appropriate in a case of this nature. Lothian Tory MSP Miles Briggs cleared of sexual harassment allegations after party hearing “We made repeated attempts to ask the Scottish Conservatives to amend their procedure or provide any reassurance that might enable her to attend the hearing. “They would not even tell us if the investigating committee had received training in sexual harassment complaints. “We had such significant concerns about the process being followed that we told the woman that we could not advise that she, or the witnesses who were present at the incident and who had provided supporting statements for the complaint, attend the hearing.” The charity also suggests the outcome of the hearing was always likely to see Briggs cleared. 3 Rape Crisis Scotland has slammed the Tories for their ‘intimidating and inappropriate’ process They added: “The fact that the Scottish Conservatives issued a press call for journalists to interview Miles Briggs about his reaction to the outcome of today’s heading, prior to the hearing even starting, raised significant concerns for us about whether the woman in this case ever had any possibility of justice. “In our view, the Scottish Conservatives need to urgently change their approach to sexual harassment complaints. “This is not about party politics, it’s about ensuring that anyone experiencing sexual harassment feels able to come forward and expect fair treatment if they do.” PA:PRESS ASSOCIATION 3 Briggs said afterr the hearing that he had been in a ‘living hell’ The complainer has expressed her anger at the “terrible” process and says she will work towards changing the procedures so other complainers will be “treated better”. In a statement released by Rape Crisis Scotland, she said: “I’m gutted that Miles has been found to have done nothing wrong. “I’m sad and angry that the process was so terrible that it felt as though this end result was written from very early on. “I want to focus on changing the process so anyone in future can have confidence that someone’s power will not protect them and that they will be treated better than I have been.” Nicola Sturgeon slams Labour over Andy Kerr’s ‘appalling’ anti-Catholic ‘joke’ Acting on the advice of the charity, the complainer and her witnesses did not attend the hearing. Speaking after the verdict, Briggs said he had been in a “living hell” for the last two months. The Lothian MSP said: “I have today been cleared by the disciplinary committee of the Scottish Conservatives following an investigation into allegations of sexual harassment made against me. “I welcome the chance today to speak publicly for the first time about these allegations. “They have hung over me in private for the last two months. Now that they have been made public, I feel I can finally set the record straight. https://www.thescottishsun.co.uk/news/3258216/miles-briggs-tory-msp-rape-crisis-scotland-sexual-harassment/
