Firstly, I had two guests at Bar'72 on Saturday, and thus heard next to nothing of BBC Scotland's coverage. I have a question to any Gersnetter that did tune in, did Richard Gordon interview Craig Levein post-match? As stated at the top of this thread, BBC Radio Scotland improved their coverage of games at Ibrox by telephoning the opposition managers for post match reaction. We heard the triumphalism in the voices of Tommy Wright, Martin Canning, and Neil Lennon. Owen Coyle utilised the opportunity to spout grievance. We did not hear Derek McInnes, was he contacted? If Levein was NOT interviewed, then there appears to be a correlation between opposition defeat and lack of interest at PQ. Did Craig trap?

Secondly, I heard most of yesterday's coverage of events at the Hill'o'Dung. I heard Richard Gordon state twice, "we will have full live coverage of all four Scottish Cup quarter-finals next weekend, from Saturday's lunchtime until Sunday afternoon". Now, full live coverage suggests they intend to provide commentary from Ibrox? He said it twice, half-an-hour apart.

Oh, and Dundee United are now forth in the Championship, and still no sign of Jum Spence. Finally, the PQ line on Neil Lennon appears to be, "Neil is a passionate man". Sportscene failed to show Lennon getting most profane in the face of referee, Kevin Clancy. Further, Chick Young claimed Lennon sarcastically clapped his hands in the face of the referee too, not shown either. I heard Richard Gordon, Pat Bonner, Chris McLaughlin, and Stephen Thomson all use the line, 'Neil is a passionate guy'. Tell that to the two women he has threatened in well documented cases.

Sportsound and Sportscene were in lock step RE Lennon, both trotting out the "passionate" trope and Sportscene completely omitted showing the footage of Lennon verbally abusing the referee.

  2. The campaign (and I'm confident there has been one) to punt Dembele has backfired. Not one English or European based outlet has ever printed a story about interest in Dembele that they haven't parroted from a Scottish publication and I'm sure the mockery and derision our fans on social media have engaged in has at least sewn some serious doubt in minds of those down south who had even considered it.

I can see him seeing out his contract and bounce form one bout of injury to another before going to *insert Championship or bottom 6 EPL club here* on a Bosman.

  3. Why do our fans constantly down play our players values?

FYI - Ipswich website has the following paragraph:

I've always wondered that and what the potential impact of that has been...we know on the dark side they will inflate players values before, during and after any transfer fee and the nett result is that they probably get more for their players as a result.

We have more than our fair share of naysayers and negative Nancy's as a support.

  4. BBC headquarters lead their position.

There's no coincidence English's own position has changed since he moved from the Scotsman to Pacific Quay.

Chris McLaughlin was the first BBC Bhoy to use the term "unlawful" the day of the BTC verdict when there was no mention of the word in any of the documents. Jackie Bird introduced Chris and she even had a we go at it too.

There's no doubt in my mind that this has been decreed as the position the BBC take on it and like good little bhoys, they've all duly obliged. Top down, publicly funded negative spin.

  5. Many journalists have been falling over themselves this week to declare the EBTs as “unlawful” but failing to justify this in any shape or form.

Tom English, for example, has spoken to “multiple experts” and is happy with the use of “unlawfully” but fails to disclose who the experts were or why the schemes were “unlawful”. Michael Grant in The Times today repeated the claim, and I am led to believe that other discredited journalists have done likewise.

Moynihan Q.C. stated in yesterday’s SPFL statement:

"The mere fact that the scheme is ultimately held to have been ineffective does not mean that when the scheme was being applied the club and Oldco acted with less than the utmost good faith."

Maugham Q.C. in response to Tom English’s tweet claiming “The way Rangers used EBT scheme was unlawful” said

“As a matter of tax law, that's cobblers.”

Lastly, let’s look at what the Supreme Court judgment written by Lord Hodge (with whom Lord Neuberger, Lady Hale, Lord Reed and Lord Carnwath agree) says on the subject:

“In this appeal, there is no suggestion that any part of the transaction, which comprised the tax avoidance scheme, was a sham. The elements of the transaction, which I discuss below, were all genuine and
    had legal effect
, as the majority of the FTT held.”

If the Supreme Court itself says that the EBTs were legal, then it should once and for all prove that the EBTs were not “unlawful.”

So to Tom English, Michael Grant et al, my experts are Lord Hodge, Lord Neuberger, Lady Hale, Lord Reed, Lord Carnwath, Moynihan Q.C. and Maugham Q.C. The floor is open for you to name yours!

I can exclusively reveal Tom English's bank of experts: GerryBhoy67, TheClumpany, Declan1888, CelticQuickNews

  6. I know Dalcio wasn't rated by many on here, but I'll put my neck on the line and say that I think he will develop into a great player for us this season. I just hope we've got a clause in his loan deal that allows us to buy him for a reasonable sum though.

I watched him off the ball last Thursday and he was making runs as soon as the midfielders had the ball at their feet facing goal only to have to turn back because they weren't spotted or he was drifting offside. I agree with you, I think there's a really dangerous player in there if the team can figure out how to use him.

  7. A deal with SD should have been the perfect solution to our retail activities when we see what happened with JJB. Unfortunately, Greenco was desperate and Ashley greedy so we both lost out.

One does wonder what has happened to change big Mike's mind as he's not usually fond of raising the white flag.

He may have a more pressing matter to attend to regarding HMRC's "raid" on St James Park.....:flute:

  8. Cardiff ex-footballer Mark Allen shares Manchester City's Premier League success

After leaving Cardiff to become a professional footballer, Mark Allen’s life took him across the Atlantic to America before he embarked on a career in the media back in Britain.

And now, 30 years after his football career began, he is celebrating a Premier League title win with employers Manchester City.

Mark, who is head of academy business and operations at the club, watched Sunday’s nail-biting 3-2 win over Queens Park Rangers alongside club legends and officials as City were crowned champions for the first time in 44 years.

“It was an unbelievable day and one that you couldn’t probably write the script for,” said Mark, whose job means he is responsible for working with the young players coming through the club’s ranks.

Llanrumney-born Mark joined Manchester City in 2009 following almost two decades in the media industry.

After leaving Swindon Town Football Club in the early 1980s he was awarded a scholarship to study business and accountancy at the University of San Diego – with his success featured in the Echo in 1983.

He then worked for broadcaster HTV while playing semi-professionally for clubs including Cwmbran and Port Talbot.

Mark then spent 14 years at music network MTV, where he became managing director of the broadcasting division, and worked as managing director at London-based Deluxe Digital before joining the Sky Blues.

And he described Sunday’s epic Premiership finale – with City scoring two injury-time goals to snatch the title from city rivals United – as “fantastic”.

Mark, who watched the game from the directors’ box, told the Echo: “It was real Roy of the Rovers stuff – it was almost the last kick of the last game and an unbelievable feeling when the whistle blew and we realised City had finally done it.

“For me it was great but I was pleased for the people who have been lifers at City and been here through thick and thin.

“It was a great feeling to be part of it but I was just happier for those people who have been here for all those years through some of the barren times.”

The 49-year-old said he was delighted three academy teenagers – Karim Rekik, Abdul Razak and Denis Suarez – had joined players like Carlos Tevez and match-winner Sergio Aguero on the pitch at the end of the match after breaking in to the first team during the season.

Mark, whose wife Tracy is an ex-gymnast and whose twin daughters Michelle and Natalie have represented Wales at cross country, added: “After the game we celebrated and a number of the team came in with the trophy, which was a nice touch, and then the club itself put on a party for all the staff on Monday night.”

  9. I wonder if ra Sellick hordes felt the same way about a certain Wim Jansen arriving and signing hitherto unknown players from the lesser (at the time) leagues?

We all know how that turned out!

  10. Well, for what it is worth, I bought my Eurojackpot ticket for tonight's draw, 41m are on offer. Anyone keeping their fingers crossed is welcomed.

Now, perhaps we talk DoFs, board members and their respective involvement in another thread, so it ain't drowned by all the speculation coming our way?

i love your periodic posts about winning the Euromillions dB, I have the same daydream from time to time.

  11. I'd rather have Cummings than Naismith and not for historic reasons, they are on different trajectories. Cummings is a young gallus version of Naismith with it all to prove at the top level and Naismith is looking at his final contract with waning pace and enough money in the bank to relax about his future.

  12. Let's be honest, this season was an abomination and we're all glad to see the back of it but the emergence of the young guns has been the rose among the thorns.

Jamie Barjonas looked every inch the first team holding midfielder we've been crying out for last night when he came. I don't think it's overkill to say he changed the game for us, rather than turn and pass back to Wes he looked to go forward and retain possession. Add to that Beerman, Bates, Wilson (who was solid but let down by Toral several times) and I'd throw in Joe Dodoo in to that group as well even although he was useless last night we have a crop of first team quality players that have cost us essentially zero.

If Pedro can bring in 4 or 5 big strong senior players to blend with the young guns then we can expect to be a team that are much harder to beat than the gutless collective we've seen this season. That would be a good starting point and then if one or two of those new signings can add a bit of attacking flair and guile we would be a solid team, hard to beat with a real threat going forward.

  14. Portuguese press reporting we have been scouting Welthon from Pacos de Ferreira (Portugal's top tier)

Valued at 1.3m, got a contract till 2021 (a clever tactic by the Portuguese sides who snap up Brazilian talent).

Out with a leg injury just now.

Good thing that PC knows the market and how to deal with it.

Did he injure his leg reaching for a pie? :-)
