  1. This is a major difference between the two sets of fans. They will privately slate their players - but publicly will always say that a player is top drawer. They have been hating on Scott Brown for years, yet still publicly laud him as Scotland's finest - admittedly they have the media in their back pocket for this too.

We, on the other hand, hurt ourselves with our honesty at times :D - and the press are very quick to determine our players are worthless on our behalf.

Take Dembele - never in a million years is the guy worth 40 million quid - Celtic know this too - but if you get the figure out there often enough, like it or not, it becomes a starting point for discussion. There isn't a player in Scotland worth even HALF that amount. You only need look at how successful Sinclair is in Scotland vs what he achieved in the EPL to know that the league here has far inferior players. But..... they will always talk their players up - and much as though we always lay the blame for this with our custodians I think you have a point - I think we also need to be smarter in how we speak about our player's qualities.

Couldn't agree more. We suck at PR as fans, our own worst enemies sometimes.

  2. They wouldn't have got near Rangers if they'd been 3rd Division, they're much more astute than that, conning people after all is their day job.

A couple of Directorship bans and a bankruptcy order are but a mere irritation in the life of a conman.

The entire alleged con was a very complex and highly tuned operation, I notice a lot of people underestimating the perpetrators or thinking that Whyte and Co just "got lucky" and landed in the room with SDM at the right time for a deal to be done. Nothing could be further from the truth but thankfully Police Scotland and BDO seem to be a little more appreciative of their "skills".

  3. The "life sentence" punishment seems harsh in principle. Why attempt any sort of re-education if you are imposing a life sentence? There would be no incentive for people to improve.

Where do you draw the line? If you make a comment about a woman's chest to a mate on one occasion, does that mean you are ruled out of such a post for the rest of your life?

However in this case, surely there must have been a better qualified option that the SFA could have gone for?

The nature of the offending texts and the time period they were accumulated over shows that this wasn't a one off slip of the tongue and belies a fairly problematic mindset. That kind of attitude doesn't just go away with a bit of reflection but I do agree that there should be a chance of redemption, I just don't think its appropriate here.

  4. Saturday's 2-0 defeat at Ibrox, although Hearts had a goal wrongly ruled out, underlined their defensive deficiencies. Rangers' first goal was an unchallenged header from a free kick. The second featured two failed attempts to cut out a bread-and-butter cross.

Clearly offside when you see it slowed down. Fantastic decision.

  5. I think we are playing against better and fitter teams tbh.

Their passing and ball control look better too. St Johnstone zipped that ball about the park last night with pace and their players were able to deal with it and distribute (often astray to be fair). If you're going to set your stall on a possession based footing then it's reasonable to expect the basics of ball control and passing to be a real strength.

  6. Not for the first time but I'm really angry about this. Angry, frustrated and to be honest a bit despondent about the situation we find ourselves in.

Fully behind any protest or action by the fans but the club HAS to make a stand here. They are fighting the entire football establishment in Scotland now, this much is clear.

  7. I wasn't complaining when we were steamrollering teams last season playing 4 - 3 - 3, but I do think in terms of our existing personnel, that a 3 - 5 - 2 may suit us better. Tav and Wallace basically play more offensively in any case, but we desperately need that third central defender to tidy things up. If we could go out and get a Baresi or Maldini, perhaps we could stick to the 4 - 3 - 3, but with Wilson, Hill, Senderos and Kiernan, none of whom fill me with confidence, a third player in there may shore things up at the back.

I also think that Garner would be better as part of a twin striker partnership, he seems totally lost as a sole striker. Neither McKay or Waghorn ever got close to providing him with support. If we are to continue with 4 - 3 - 3, then Waghorn would be the better option as a striker.

It seems so obvious doesn't it? My only fear would be keeping 3 centre backs fit....

  8. Somehow we've managed to find ourselves on the margins of society and this drives the now mainstream view that Rangers are "fair game". The country as a whole has become split along political lines rather than the traditional prods v tims (which is still a large factor) but now Rangers are seen as a Unionist/British entity against a backdrop of growing anti-British sentiment (see SNP & Labour in the last 3 years for evidence). Furthermore, the insinuation is that we are xenophobic, racist and basically the footballing equivalent of Nigel Farage, the Tories and Darth Vader combined.

I firmly believe that we've missed a trick as a club and a support. We should be hailing from the roof tops about how diverse our support really is, we should be engaging with community groups in Govanhill, Castlemilk and beyond with large multicultural demographics and forcing the political class to take notice.

I stood on the club deck concourse at the Ross County game and saw Sikh, Chinese, Black, White and Eastern European fans either outside on Edmiston Drive or inside the stadium wearing scarves etc without a care in the world and certainly not deterred from the club by the attempts of some to paint us as intolerant xenophobes. By downplaying or keeping stoic about the positive side of our club and support we play right into the hands of the REAL intolerant groups shaping the debate.

  9. I don't think Warburton is naive enough to think Kranjcar is a box to box midfielder, his creativity and ability to take the ball in close and distribute WILL be invaluable for us as the season progresses. We'll play a lot of teams who'll pack the 18yard line with bodies and he can unlock them if his team mates are tuned into what he can do. he'll also chip in a few goals as we've seen.

Very unfair to write him off.

  10. Pretty much everything positive that we are today has been orchestrated by Dave King so it's appropriate he gets the honour of unfurling the Championship flag. Putting aside SDM's recklessness and legacy, I always enjoyed him unfurling the flag.

  11. I don't seem to have a problem with those words: they are already in use, rather than him making them up, and are a result of specialisation where certain words start to be used to be very specific about what someone in the field is talking about, so that a fellow professional can immediately assimilate what they are on about. I think those words are pretty easily understood by the layman also.

The only problem grammatically is some of the superfluous hyphenation but, as he's being quoted from the spoken word, that's hardly his fault.

For me the words are very appropriate to describe fitness. Close season may be more specific to football than off season but the latter is more related to sports science.

One does hyper-appreciate the occasional left-field rant from you Calscot
