  1. I'm sure the Raith in the Raith Rovers has somehting to do with the Raith House in Kirkcaldy??
  2. http://sport.stv.tv/football/scottish-premier/celtic/301643-celtic-move-to-clarify-neil-lennon-directors-box-advice/ So Mr. Lennon let's get this straight, you were adamant that actions by the Ibrox security staff prompted the statement â??That sums up this country.â? Seems you basically lied to make a cheap comment that condems our great country
  3. With regards to Arsenal, if the question is "what teams are not named after a place?" then they are in but if the question "What teams don't have a place in their name?" then their out. Depends how the question is worded TBH St. Johnstone are named after the old name for Perth (Saint Jon's Toun) or somehting like that?
  4. Correct!! Kind of hard to believe there are only 3 teams in all of the leagues that don't have any direct/indirect reference to a place/location You can probably put in Arsenal as well as the underground station was renamed after the team rather than the other way round
  5. I heard this one at the weekend With regards to their name, what unique claim do Rangers FC, Celtic FC and St. Mirren FC share that no other team in the top flights in Scotland and England can?
  6. I'm not really one for sweeping statements or generalisations but....(deep breath) there are a few things that I've picked up on over the last few years concerning Gers and Celtic fans that I have found intriguing. The things that I have noticed is the rather strange and somewhat deluded arrogance and confidence that many Celtic fans have regarding their team. Considering they have won hee-haw over the last 3 years with a far larger sqaud and wage budget they seem to appoach every OF game with a rather ridiculous "it's a fore gone conclusion" attitude. This baffles me. Have they not watched any OF games? For example, if Rangers had won the Champions League 3 years on the bounce and were World Champions with superstars all over the pitch etc etc. and were playing a struggling Celtic that were languishing at the bottom of the Scottish 3rd Division I would still think the game will be tight. Maybe that's just me but IMO there is too much pride at stake in these game. Look at last season, we were gubbed 3-0 by Celtic at Parkhead and it brought forth the same hyperbolic nonsense about how this team were going to sweep all before them and win the league for the next 5/6 years... what happened in the end? I recall the same comments got an airing after McDonald scored to beat Rangers 1-0 at Ibrox a few years back. Again...what happened in the end? Another thing that I don't get regarding Celtic fans is the equally hyperbolic reaction to a run of form from one their players and the subsequent over pricing of their value. For example over the last few years we've had £10 million plus values being attached to Scott Brown, Gary Hooper, Brahim Kayal and Emillio Izaguirre based on 2/3 months "decent" form. Compare that to Rangers fans who seem to accept that playing in the SPL means that our better players have modest values. Has anyone else noticed these traits?
  7. Hi passing was a joy yesterday and what was more pleasing was the speed and tempo that he was keen to promote for a young player. Hopefully with him in the midfield with Ness there are some good times ahead in that area for us
  8. I have to admit I have never been on the "I Simpy Hate Neil Lennon" just because.. bandwagon but he is really is getting tiresome now with his comments. I think he would garner more respect if he just admitted that his team were not good enough instead of pointing the finger at everyone else.
  9. The first pic of Wallace is a beauty. The joy on his face, the despair of the Celtic players in the background and the main stand looking magnificant as ever. A classic pic
  10. TBH, I think much of the criticism of Lee McCulloch was more to do with where he was playing TBH rather than a total slamming of his ability. IMO we lack any dynamism when we play with such a one dimensional holding midfielder like McCulloch and the 50 odd minutes that young McCabe played yesterday showed what can be done with a player that can whip the ball forward with speed. McCulloch was bought as a left sided attacker/striker and somehow was crow barred into this horrible "holding" role. God knows why? Maybe his lack of pace? Anyway...fair play to the big guy. In a time of hardship for our club he's done well. I am not his greatest fan but he has bust a gut for the cause and at the same time has ruffled a few feathers when playing as a striker
  11. Hi Guys Down south with work so I can't make the game but I want to make a plea to all my fellow Rangers fans. We all know there is a good chance that Celtic might wrap up the title today and that will be a very bitter pill to swallow but let's keep the head. Support our team come what may until the end with pride. Out shout and out sing the Celtic fans and show everyone what a great team and support we have. Let's make sure that our East End neighbours still have 1999 firmly at the top of their shame CV. C'mon the Rangers!! They might have won this particular battle but we will win come through this stronger and hungrier for more trophies!
  12. Agree IF they are responsible but the track record of foreign owners has been less than positive and that for me renders that a very big IF. Outwith US owners, who have a greater grasp of sports franchises IMO, some of the owners have been wreckless and have been unstable for the clubs concerned. Look at Chelsea for example. They've had 7 full time managers in the space of 8 years. Look at the Venky's at Blackburn. Look at Portsmouth, QPR, Birmingham, West Ham. I also won't be that surprised if Mancini is looking for a new job come the end of this year at Man City.
  13. As the news regarding possible buyers of our great club gathers pace and the official notes of interests increase to 4, I am left with mixed feelings about the potential new owners. On the face of it the BK bid looks favourable as I firmly believe they have the clubs interests at heart (being fans) and want to take the club forward with regards to a move away from an autocratic system at the helm and fan particpation to the fore etc. On the flip side of this bid, the Ticketus aspect is less savoury IMO and the apparent lack of "upfront" money at this early stage from the investors is also a concern. Other bids seem to have fans excited as news of overseas consortiums have many dreaming of large pots of cash etc. but this also leaves me with concerns. As much as vast amounts of cash injection from a rich benefactor seems like the perfect solution to our current situation I would guard against any such bids TBH (if they exist). Do we really want Rangers owned by a foreign body with zero interest in our club or football for that matter? The history of this type of ownership is riddled with trigger happy owners with little knowledge of the game and the culture that surrounds it. That is the last thing we need IMO. We need stability. We need a new vision, on and off the park. Ultimately I would probably prefer a model like the one suggested by the BK's but would like a more solid financial foundation behind it. At the end of the day, these guys are Gers fans and have a vested interest in our club whereas the idea of a detached consortium from beyond these shores is potentially problematic IMO. Is anyone else concerned about the possibilty of foreign ownership?
  14. I genuinely think we have to detach what is happening at the moment from the idea of retaining McCoist as our manager. Ally will always be a legend and his stature has grown during this torrid time for our club but let's not be blinded by all that's gone before on the pitch. Clueless tactics, out of position players, baffling line-ups, player omissions up until January had nothing to do with what's happening off the pitch. I just think we need news ideas across the board: on and off the pitch
  15. To be honest, I'd rather Ibrox was a sea of blue flags rather than Union Jacks/flags but hey if it's raising money...
  16. I wouldn't hold my breath for any earth shattering news to be honest. Whatever happens I'm sure we will only hear the half of it.
  17. Isn't tomorrow only the deadline to state your interest? I'm sure if that is the case and these "bids" are the real deal there will still be a long, drawn out process to find the preferred buyer?
  18. Agreed. I think it's just funny how things are spun. People would cry fowl as we didn't employ Catholics but that could have been easily turned around and we could have been a pro-Protestant club, supporting young Protestants in Scotland etc. That's what other cultures do and no one seems to bother?
  19. Something different from all the takeover stuff... Over the last few months we've had the subject of Rangers previous signing policy popping up on phone ins by obsessed celtic fans as they sadly try to drag every piece of our history to the forefront for scrutiny (hey it's the in thing at the moment...) Anyway this got me thinking... Manchester Utd are playing Athletic Bilboa tonight and the Basque team famously had a signing policy that only employed Basque born players. Can someone tell me what is different from that and our rather archaic signing policy? I am only asking as I cannot recall Bilboa getting that much criticism for their form selelctive employment? I'll put my cards on the table. I'm an atheist and have zero attachment to any religion. Ultimately, I'm glad we don't have a restrictive signing policy and we can employ people from all relisgions/creeds/cultures but if previous Rangers' signing policy was "spun" in the same way as the Bilboa model. eg. Rangers are a club for Scottish Protestants and follow this model to maintain this culture etc. would people have been less critical? Would that have made it a more positive policy? Could it not have been spun as a Pro-Protestant club and that meant that Catholics could not play (given the origins of Protestantism). There are sports clubs/associations throughout the world that are Jewish, Muslim, catholic etc. so what was the difference? The thing that makes chuckle is the fact that I'm pretty positive that Celtic fans would be the first to support Bilboa's right to adopt this policy and maintain their identity/culture (they are keen on Basque flags after all...) As I said I'm not religious and I'm glad we sign who we want now (when we have money...) but sometimes I get tired of this just being another stick to beat Rangers with. I would be interested to hear other views on the comparison with Bilboa
  20. I have to agree with the OP. As much as I would fully expect the Celtic fans to dance on our "grave" I have found their high horse moralising too much to take. These idiots seem to spend their lives crawling over everything to do with Rangers
  21. As much as Walter is a total legend I really feel that if we are to move ahead off the pitch we have to also move foreward on the pitch to. I would like a whole new approach to what we are doing with the team and that for me does not include Smith and McCoist. Despite all the crap that Ally has dealt with over the last month or so, he has shown that he doesn't not have what it takes to be our manager IMO. It's easy to forget the awful defensive line-ups, the baffling tactics and clear lack of any plan/vision due to the horrors of admin. We need new ideas throughout the club, not a lukewarm rehash of what we were doing before.
  22. I think Swifts was a generic name for 2nd teams back then? Or maybe we were the first and everyone followed suit?
  23. I hear you mate. Maybe stripes then? Like the old Swifts??
