  1. The thing I don't get is if the SPL are adamant at least 5 clubs will go into administration next season without us, then why would these chairmen put the future of their clubs at risk?

They clearly won't, so given that's the case we'd have 6 votes. I assume the 5 clubs doesn't include Celtic who stand to lose the most, so I reckon that'd be 7 votes, and we'd only need one more and I reckon we could get that in Ross County who clearly shouldn't be one of the five.

  2. To be honest mate for me Rangers getting back to the top as quickly as possible is far more important than getting refenge on the people who put the boot into us .

For me Rangers to become Scottish champions for a 55th time will be sweet refenge and we can achieve that faster if we start from the 1st div or from SPL 2.

I couldnt agree more!! I'm just thinking of ways we can put pressure on the SPL chairmen as we do hold more cards than we realise!!

  3. Dont shoot the messenger, he claims they've had a "bid" knocked back. Tend to agree, and I dont like the sound of the guys who are backing him.

The people who were previously linked with him aren't on board. The bid is now made up entirely of Rangers men.

  4. Never thought much of him to be honest, but fair play to him for calling it as he sees it.

â??@MarkWotte: In many countries clubs try 2 help+support each other, not sure we see that here 2,I realise Rangers *have 2 be punished, don't get me wrong!!â?
  5. What is the likely impact on the Scottish economy and society in general if, as expected, we're not in the SPL?

For a start I'll be cancelling ESPN tonight and I imagine 1000s more will do the same if they haven't already. On top of that I won't be listening to any radio stations nor buying any papers and I anticipate a complete lack of interest and apathy towards all things football related in Scotland.

You then have the bus companies who will lose out big time, as well as pubs across Scotland either near grounds or who show live football. Many will close and people will lose their jobs unfortunately.

It's not something that has really been discussed in the wider media, but the impact could be huge.

Ps - just quick sums, if we take 5.000 fans away each week, and on average they spend £25 on a ticket, £10 on a bus or petrol, £10 on a carry out, and say £5 on food. That's say 20 games per season and is worth £5m to the economy. If you have 50,000 fans watching each game in a pub and spending just £10 on drink and food, that's £500k per game and another £10m per season into the economy. It soon stacks up!!.

  6. If down to business reasons, I think Celtic, Motherwell, Kilmarnock and Aberdeen will vote us in. I also think St Johnstone and ICT will go with us. That would leave us needing one from St Mirren, Hibs and Ross County and I think we'll get that.

  7. Ally McCoist Statement

RANGERS manager Ally McCoist has this afternoon released the following statement.

He said: "It has been reported that a couple of players have indicated they want to challenge the transfer of their contracts. This is news to me and no player has spoken to me about it.

"At all times during my first year as manager, I strived to show players respect and in return would have hoped they would have shown me, and more importantly the club, respect by notifying us of their intentions before making it known elsewhere.

"Players have their own decisions to make and I understand that, but the question they have to ask themselves is do they want to play for Rangers or not?

"The formation of a new company is not the issue. The players would be playing for the same club - Rangers - in front of the same fans.

"If players want to leave and play somewhere else then they should be honest with the Rangers supporters.

"I don't want Rangers fans to be reading over the next few days how devastated players are about having to go. The fans deserve better than that. They are not daft.

"I can understand if a player has the chance to go somewhere else and there is uncertainty about which division we will be playing in.

"If that is the case that is understandable but they should not expect sympathy from Rangers supporters if they use the transfer of contracts as an excuse.

"I already know there are agents touting my players all over the United Kingdom, so let's be brutally honest.

"We are in a difficult situation and the contracts issue has given some players and agents the belief they can use it to leave the club.

"After all that the club and the fans have gone through, the supporters, above all, deserve the truth and should not have to listen to stories trying to sugar-coat the possible departure of players from the club.

"The players were magnificent last season and made great sacrifices and that will never be forgotten.

"Now, we have to look forward and everyone should be upfront and honest about their intentions."

Rangers CEO Charles Green added: "We are meeting the PFA Scotland and their legal advisers on Monday with a view to allaying players' concerns about the transfer of contracts so the timing of these announcements by players is hard to understand.

"The transfer of contracts has already happened and the club's clear legal advice is that players' purported objection is ineffective.

"Rangers would like to make it abundantly clear to players, agents and the chairmen and managers of other football clubs that we will take whatever steps necessary to challenge what we regard as a breach of contract to protect the interests of our club."

    Fighting talk from the legend.

  8. It's a big difference though. If it's 8 to 4 to kick us out then we only need 5 votes to stay in, if you assume Celtic will bottle it that's only 3 more clubs which I think we could get.

By making it 8 clubs to stay in it's much more difficult, and I don't see how or why they've arrived at a decision which requires only a minority vote to kick us out.

If we get 7 votes in favour we're out the way we're doing it, and that makes no sense. We are an SPL member club, we have an SPL share, and it should take 8 votes to get rid of us.

  9. This was the old companies to sell. We've seen this happening down south and elsewhere, with no repercussions whatsoever. Duff & Phelps, on the old companies behalf, sold Rangers Football Club, including it's SPL membership, to a new company.

Given that new company now holds Rangers SPL share, why does it need 8 votes to keep us in? Surely it should be 8 votes to kick us out, as the SPL share belongs to Rangers and they are voting to remove us rather than let us in.

For me it really should be an 8-4 vote that's required to kick us out, and anything else keeps us in.

  10. The difference with Evian Thonon-Gaillard is they were a member of the French Football Federation, just now we're not so we're not looking to leave any league. That position would be strengthened if the SPL refuse us entry to the league, and if we don't have SFA membership at that time.

I think the problem, as above, will come when the SFA have to give permission for us to play games in Scotland. That could prove difficult, but as I say it could easily be challenged through the courts - but that as we know is a dangerous route.

ps - I think Cardiff and Swansea are still technically controlled by the FAW, who consider any disciplinary matters such as red cards etc, so not sure that's a workable scenario as we'd have to report to the SFA.

  11. The journo's saying we can't apply are saying so because UEFA regulations says:

No combinations or alliances between member associations or between leagues or clubs affiliated, directly or indirectly, to different UEFA member associations may be formed without the permission of UEFA.

A member association, or it's affiliated leagues and clubs, may neither play nor organise matches outside its own territory without the permission of the relevant member associations.

    The questions i'd have are:

1 - Given we have no affiliation to the SFA why would this apply to Rangers?

2 - If the SPL refuse our right to play in the league, and we have no membership of the SFA, then is it not a restriction of trade to refuse us permission to move to a league which is technically still within our own country (United Kingdom)?

I think the problem would be if we required the SFA's permission to play games in Scotland, although again this could be seen as a restriction of trade given we'd have been refused permission by the SFA and it's top league to play in their competitions.

Legally there's no doubt we'd win any court case, but whether or not we'd want to go down that route is debatable.

  12. If the SPL accept our transfer of membership, on what basis can they then turn round and relegate us?

Given there are no rules for points deductions or the likes, and we weren't liquidated last season, on what basis could we possibly be deducted enough points to relegate us?

Any such proposal could be challenged, and by that point we'd be in the SPL and couldn't then be chucked out.

  13. Well, it's either one of two things.

The complete dismantling of European football, the biggest cash generator on planet football, the removal of UEFA's power, the destruction of FIFA regulations, visits to the European Courts and probably Parliament, and a new future which no-one, least of all Sky Sports and their £4b deal, knows what's happening or

    A load of shite.

Not forgetting that it completely lacks sporting integrity!! :)

  14. wimbeldon asked to move to Dublin and were told to f off.

I can't see this faring much better. but I hope it does.

But then Wimbledon moved to Milton Keynes, and given there's already precedent with other British clubs playing in the English league it'd be interesting how it would go down - could it be another Bosman ruling with regards restriction of trade!!??

I doubt it will go that far, but I think it makes more sense than the Dublin move which is outwith UK borders. I also seem to recall the Football League chairman entertaining the idea of us moving down there a few months ago.

  15. Apologies, didn't see this when I posted the Sun story above (or below now).

    http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/sport/football/4385272/Rangers-plan-to-buy-Bury-and-play-in-English-League-One.html

I can't see it happening, although I would love to see us join the English league!! The only thing I can see this doing though is antagonising the other clubs and making their minds up once and for all ahead of the SPL vote.

I think other clubs will see it as arrogant and a complete lack of support for the SPL/Scottish leagues, and it might just make their mind up that they need to go it alone.

  16. Green/Rangers are looking to buy Bury and take their place in League 1 next season. I know it's the Sun, but:

1 - Does anyone believe this?

2 - What would you make of it if true?

Personally i'd feel sorry for Bury fans, but if it got us into the English leagues then i'm all for it. Can't see it happening though.

On a negative note, if we do end up staying in Scotland I think this will be the push the other SPL clubs need to give us an even heftier kick up the behind.

ps - the Daily Mirror are also running the story.

    http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/rangers-plan-to-buy-an-english-club-904611

It’s Bury Rangers - Ibrox giants want to play in England

RANGERS are looking at an astonishing plan to buy out League One club Bury — so they can play in England.

The Scottish club were bought last week by Charles Green for £6million but are in liquidation.

Rangers could face starting next season in Scottish Division Three — if SPL clubs vote next month against their bid to be allowed back in this term.

Green is looking at other options, including buying Bury and playing English league games in Glasgow.

They would want to start immediately by taking up Bury’s fixtures for next season.

The Greater Manchester club kick off with a home game against Brentford on August 18.

There is strong opposition to Rangers being invited back into the Scottish Premier League.

The SPL fixture list currently has ‘Club 12’ listed until the other 11 clubs vote on July 4.

Rangers do not want to start right at the bottom of the Scottish professional leagues and have long been touted for a place south of the border, along with Old Firm rivals Celtic.

A source told SunSport: “Yes, Rangers really are thinking about this.

“They are in a position at the moment where they have no idea what the future holds.

“They don’t know whether they will be in the SPL next season and do not want to go to the bottom of the ladder.

“Acquiring an English club would get them the foothold they have always wanted down south.”

It is not clear whether the amazing plan to buy is even allowed under Football League rules in England or Scotland.

But there are precedents with Welsh club Swansea playing in the English Premier League and rivals Cardiff in the Championship.

Berwick is actually a town in England but their football team plays in Scottish Division Three.

Also, Wimbledon moved 60 miles north to Milton Keynes before being renamed Milton Keynes Dons in 2004.

Bury fans are sure to be furious at the suggestions to take their club more than 200 miles north.
