That was what surprised me more about this announcement... We couldn't offer Novo 2 years, but McCulloch we can? Unless its just the timing of it all? Or maybe Novo wasn't as loyal as he made out? I mean it took "minutes" to sort out lee's deal. I doubt it, but there has to be some sort of explanation to this puzzle...

Miller has been a standout in preseason, and has to me displayed why he is indispensable with our squad the way it is. If 2 strikers of better quality were to be brought in I could understand it, but better the devil you know. We know he will get goals and play well. new signings, you never know!

Wow, if this is the rule, I'm surprised it is not used more frequently... I mean there are plenty of folk who could sign a deal a year in advance... and for players going to a bigger club, you'd imagine that they'd be too important to not play for a year.

Not sure if we can wait a year, but it's interesting to know about the rule...

The matter of pre contracts has been discussed before and in fact Frazer Wishart of the SPFA has been on record stating that you could in theory sign a pre contract with Club B , a day after signing for Club A , the 6 month time scale is a bit of a red herring with regards to the actual signing it refers to the time scale in which a player is free to talk to any other club without informing his present employer

so can he simply "inform" rapid that he is talking to us and then sign a deal starting next year NOW? where as he wouldnt have to tell them if there were 6 months left? or would he need rapids consent to speak to us?

Lafferty must step up if he deserves to wear the number 11... Can't remember who all has worn it, but I know Albertz did well with it, and then Adam had it did he not? Not sure who had it inbetween them, but it has never been a true '11' as tradition would dictate. I recall McCann wearing 18, the closest to an 11 I recall in the past decade... oh for a Laudrup or a Cooper to magically promote themselves from Murray Park...

Strong rumours on FF that Davis and Miller will be out the door next as bank have reneged on deal with the club.

Is this just scaremongering? Why are banks letting the likes of Barcelona, Liverpool, Real Madrid and Man U to carry the debts, but not us? Our level of debt isn't that unmanageable is it? well it soon will be if they continue to cripple us this aggressively!

I still fail to see how Novo couldn't have been given a new deal. I understand that Smith needed 1st team football, and the Thomson deal, the Boyd thing seems to be more self-orientated...

But who could we sign that would have been better than Nacho? especially with the all-so-public financial limitations...

McArthur would probably be worth "more" because of the game time he's received. I think he seems a decent player, but thought this is a likely deal as he seems to be a player Walter likes. Seems strange we're looking at Holman as he sounds like his position is that which would be best suited to fleck...

McArthur isn't a ridiculous shout. However, the accies would probably ask for something crazy like 2 to 3m for him... if thommo is worth 2m, surely we wouldn't have to pay more than 1m? sadly it doesn't seem to work like that for us!
