  1. Not really a surprise, if true, but Hill did well for us. Was certainly the best of our defenders and provided leadership skills at a time when the team is desperately short of these. Will always be remembered for his goal against them! PC obviously has other CB's in mind to replace Hill and the leadership qualities.
  2. Good luck to the young man, hope he does brilliantly there, but I have my doubts. Also well done to the Academy for developing a player that generates a transfer fee in excess of anything we would receive for any current first team player!
  3. What a brilliant article. Scot Symon was before my time and all I knew about him was that he was the manager when Rangers lost 'that' match, so to read up about him was quite fascinating. I had no idea that cricket was such a big sport in Scotland in pre-war years.
  4. I wonder how much Wallace was hampered by his injury this season as he was a poor shadow of last year's player, or is this just due to the step-up in quality? I agree that a rampaging Wallace makes McKay a better player, but still think that McKay is too easily contained when playing wide on the left. Would love to see him playing more centrally. I said at the time of Wallace's appointment as captain, that I found it to be a strange decision. Not sure if this was to reward his loyalty, or his off the field communication skills with Warburton, but he has to be the quietest captain that I can ever recall. Every Rangers team has always had leaders throughout, how provided support to their captain. Other than Clint Hill and Kenny Miller, I would struggle to name any current players that display leadership qualities.
  5. I think JJ recently attended a Norwich match, so the media are throwing around the names of all of the freebies, ex Rangers players and Scottish players, in the hope that we sign one of them and they can say how well connected they are!
  6. I would probably take anyone back apart from Naeshame and Whittaker. They would both be a huge improvement on what we have, but not for me. Take a dump on the Ibrox floor (or the equivalent by their comments) and there is no going back. Any of the players being released by Norwich would strengthen our squad enormously (the two Centre backs especially) but as always there is a reason they are being released. Whether it be injury, loss of form, wage demands, we would need to do our homework. Every penny is a prisoner. Hopefully Pedro has a long list of players who understand his philosophy and what he expects from his team, because the current lot just don't seem to be able to grasp the nettle.
  7. I just think that the lack of the appointment of a DoF is being used as a rod to beat the board with. SR stated that the appointment was being made 'imminently" and since then, total silence. The board could have come out and stated that the appointment would only be made in the summer (if that is their intention) or that following discussion with PC, they have revised their thinking and will not be appointing a DoF. There is a great deal of basic information that could be shared with the supporters, which would have avoided much of the speculation.
  8. Just my tuppence worth on this debate. I think messi is a great footballer and at the moment the best in the world. However it's important to remember that every player now plays without fear of tackle (front, side or behind). Defending is no longer an art form. Not sure if anyone saw the Juventus/Barca match? Bonucci and Chiellini gave a masterclass in defending. I think Barca had one shot on target the entire match! That performance was without the need to resort to tackles from behind, they just managed the game so brilliantly. Obviously helps when you have Khedira and Pjanic sitting in front of the central defence, mind you. It just makes a mockery of Warburton attempting to convert Halliday into a defensive midfielder in front of an abysmal defence, without properly addressing the situation.
  9. You don't need to buy the cow to get a glass of milk! Daily record do that for nothing!
  10. Scottish Football - I would like to say it's been our pleasure, but that would be a lie. All about the Rangers, as always.
  11. The only thing that scares defenders is pace, and JD certainly has that. Would like to see him get a starting run as I think he offers more than Garner and/or Waghorn, but just wondering if he is viewed as an impact player i.e. coming on in the 70th minute with the brief to run at defences. Mind you MOH has plenty of pace and has done the square root of f.a. with that! Would love to see young Atayaki getting some game time before the end of the season as well. Lightning quick with good skill, could definitely bring a new dimension to the right side of the field. Might be a bit of a lightweight though, hope he is hitting the gym.
  12. I tend to agree, but in the bigger picture I think that everything is geared towards creating (or giving the impression) of on-going turmoil at Rangers. That comment by Provo regarding Dave King's financial support is absolutely ridiculous (but then again this is the man who was punting for Fat Ashley to throw his billions into the club).
  13. I thought that their long ball tactic played perfectly to young Bates' strengths. Would happily have him attack balls in the air, rather than defend against quick passing. Delighted with Danny Wilson's performance, is this the long last renaissance that we have been expecting since he signed? Perhaps having to take the senior role with the responsibility that is required has just added to his game. I would not want to see him dropped for Hill (and that's after voting for Hill as our POTS!).
  14. Nail-on-head. I was hoping that we may get a bit of a dead cat bounce from the current team following the appointment of Pedro, but the players just look like they have been told that they are finished with the club come the summer and are counting the days. It is hard to believe that they are genuinely playing for their place and if this is the best that they can offer, then unfortunately, there will have to be a major clear out. Wes, perhaps Wilson, perhaps Wallace (horrible defensively, but decent going forward), Holt (I thought he was one of the better players last night), McKay (needs to up his game or change position), perhaps Windass (potential) perhaps Kranjcar (depending on fitness) - other than that I am struggling to find any redeeming reasons for continuing with the remainder of the current squad. Obviously finances and Europa qualifiers dictate that we are unable to do so, but it would seem that the current team are just unable to adapt to the higher league.
  15. Of course they did. Do you not remember sell out Saturday when the non Rangers fans were going to make up any financial shortfall due to the loss of the Blue Pound! That worked out well didn't it!
  16. Not sure why stating that he is slow and we will have to hold a deep line is not giving him a chance? I hope that Pedro's training has changed him into a Usain Bolt, but somehow I doubt that! Bates is a decent technical player, strong and good in the air but has not really shot the lights out at U20 level. Happy for Beerman, probably our first academy graduate to play in the first team since Warburton took over.
  17. We'll have to hold a really deep line. Bates is slower than a week in jail!
  18. IMO he will have complied with his obligations. Even then, nothing to stop him selling whatever he purchases straight back to C1872 at the same price. However, other than Ally, who would sell the shares at 35% less than the current price? Really has just been done maliciously to force King into wasting money making the offer.
  19. He had the one brilliant season when he played in midfield and was getting rave reviews as the captain of the team. Was he not sold the season after, when he fell out with Advocaat? (Or is that just my memory going?)
  20. Didn't the recently appointed UEFA President come out against the stockpiling of youngsters by rich clubs? Hopefully something will be done, but think it will be too late to benefit us with BG. Also, to be fair, we tend to poach a lot of youngsters from other clubs, so to complain (provided Chelsea's approach was within the rules) would be a bit hypocritical. If we are getting £500k, that is probably about 10% of our total outlay for the first team squad, for a young man with undoubted talent and potential but who is certainly very far from the finished article. I do think it is a shame though as I just cannot see any first team opportunities at a club like Chelsea (or any of the top EPL clubs) whereas if Billy stayed at Rangers, there would be far greater opportunity. However financially, if he keeps the nut screwed on, this could set him up for life, so can see it from both sides.
  21. That's a real shame for Jim. Real gentleman and definitely helped our keepers develop during the time he was at the club. However, I think he may have been retiring at the end of the season (?) so would probably have been a mutual agreement in any event.
  22. Derek Auld, along with thousands of other fans on the day of last year’s Scottish Cup final, stormed on to the pitch after the final whistle blew. Re-writing of History. I honestly cannot recall any Rangers fans immediately storming onto the pitch at full time. This was only in response to the Hibs fans taunting and goading (to the best of my recollection).
  23. I have seen retired referee Dermot Gallagher at Celtic Park a few times this season, he wasn’t there yesterday though. I would like Peter Lawwell to invite Dermot to the semi-final, and ask him to oversee the official’s performance, and I would also make it public what we are doing. Dermot Gallagher was on SSN and said that Madden had a brilliant performance!
