  1. I can assure you that anyone logging into a forum such as RM is not doing so through a VPN or any such secure connection. It is a simple public request from a web client via port 80 to a web server creating web pages on the fly using PHP. Like I said in a previous post I was an RM mod in the past and we could see every poster's IP address, all of which were simple public IP's. I'm sure you are trying to make a valid point but for me it is very, very far fetched. Your wikipedia / how things work cut and paste efforts add no weight to your argument. I have never used party poker but I assume it is some kind of certificate based https secure connection. End to end similar to VPN. This is not remotely comparable to a standard webserver connection across the public internet. Please don't see this as a deflection but I feel that we are now well off topic and I usually get £550 a day for such consultation.
  2. Sorry to be pedantic but that is nonsense. The individual workstation would have a private IP hidden behind a NAT. All workstations on the router's private network would expose the same public IP. Access via remote control software such as you describe, teamviewer or logmein for example make an end to end connection through specific ports but client software on the host PC (such as a browser connected to RM) would again expose the public address of the router...
  3. I was an RM mod too back in the day and I'd be surprised at anyone handing out such info particularly in such a high profile shit storm inducing case. But I agree with your wider point, my work has brought me into contact with a couple of infosec guys, so called 'ethical hackers' and to be honest these guys could be into the backend of most forums in minutes. And that's the good guys... For a high profile person to post on a public forum and to expect it to be completely anonymous and safe is naive IMO ...
  4. If it's the Easdale's you might need bigger gloves
  5. CRO and TRS have both built up enough kudos for me to take your word that there is something concrete behind this revelation. It doesn't mean I wouldn't eat my own arm off to find out what it is though. #lions
  6. The replies to your RM thread are utterly depressing
  7. Exactly stewarty. The politics of it guarantee that any incoming CEO has to engage with an in situ head of operations which helps to protect the vested interests that have put him there... It seems quite common these days to have a CEO, COO, CFO and CTO. I was involved with a company recently with less than 50 employees that had all of those roles and the CEO was also the chairman
  8. I wonder if a court could invalidate the whole D&P outcome vis-a-vis the asset sale? And if so what then?
  9. The sooner this lot are all telling their story to the man with a sheep's arse on his head, the better...
  10. I have no idea what the truth is here but I would love to see a journalist write a piece without all that hyperbole. Everything has to be 'brutal and bloody', daggers are frequently drawn and the slightest disagreement is described as ripping the club apart. Much as I would like to believe that the board will do only what is best for the club I understand that there are vested interests and that there is money at stake. But surely it's not unreasonable to expect grown men to sit down and find a compromise that is as close to a win-win as they can get then to move on. Having sat on a dysfunctional board of directors I can confirm the obvious, it paralyses the company and stunts development and growth. No-one can change who said what to whom or what Messers Whyte, Green et al. got up to last year but a strong united board can hopefully see us through the fallout. We need leadership . It can't be good to face such choppy waters rudderless...
  11. I would think its more likely that Brian Stockbridge will move into the role... Not a glamorous suggestion but a real possibility methinks.
  12. You are misrepresenting the point I was making. I am in no way defending Ally McCoist's managerial record which has not been good enough. I was simply saying the man's contribution to this club should, in my opinion, afford him a bit of respect and labelling him a muppet does not do that as far as I'm concerned. Anyway we have got a bit off topic here so I'll beg to differ with you on this one GA, have a good day.
  13. I'm not quite sure what your point is GA. Your rhetorical question regarding today's result makes no sense. I have conceded that McCoist may well not be good enough as a manager going forward but I think his contribution to this club over a lifetime should afford the man some respect. Calling him a muppet is not a useful contribution to the debate in my opinion. But heigh ho life is all about opinions I simply don't agree with yours on this occasion.
  14. I was at Ibrox in late September 1983. Rangers v St. Johnstone. The manager was a forlorn and under pressure John Greig, Rangers had a young Ally McCoist playing on his 21st birthday. St. Johnstone scored in the first minute and a half empty Ibrox fell silent. Rangers won the game 6-3 and young McCoist scored a brace. My eternal memories of the day are the spectacle of John Greig looking completely lost and overwhelmed after the first goal and the old guys on the Glasgow subway after the game slating the legend that is Greig as useless, citing the ignominy of allowing a team like St. Johnstone to score three goals at Ibrox as the end of the line for our manager of the day. I feel that there are obvious parallels now with the greatest Rangers man of his generation struggling to become a competent and successful manager. John Greig resigned shortly after that game yet remains a legend despite his obvious failings as a manager. It may be necessary for Ally to do the same but nothing will ever undermine or reduce what he has done for this club over a 30 year period. At least not for this bear. Muppet? I don't think so.
  15. Excellent! ... I'm not changing my user name though.
  16. Indeed. Back at No.10 in the Div 3 league table as well. That position was blank last night...
  17. This is an enquiry in full public glare. We have the opportunity to lobby the committee members. We should do so.
  18. BBC Parliament are very likely to show it live. Committee members are: John Whittingdale MP (Chair) Conservative Maldon Therese Coffey MP Conservative Suffolk Coastal Damian Collins MP Conservative Folkestone and Hythe Philip Davies MP Conservative Shipley Paul Farrelly MP Labour Newcastle-under-Lyme Louise Mensch MP Conservative Corby Steve Rotheram MP Labour Liverpool Walton Adrian Sanders MP Liberal Democrat Torbay Jim Sheridan MP Labour Paisley and Renfrewshire North Gerry Sutcliffe MP Labour Bradford South Tom Watson MP Labour West Bromwich East
  19. Who knows but the though of seeing Lawwell, Regan, Murray, Whyte, Muir and others in front of a parliamentary select committee is quite appealing.
  20. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-scotland-politics-18706453 A Westminster committee is to hold an inquiry into the state of Scottish football. The move comes after Rangers, one of the country's biggest teams, was placed into liquidation. The situation at the club, and the potential knock-on effects for other Scottish sides, has sparked fears for the future of the professional game. Members of the media and sport committee at the House of Commons will begin taking evidence next week.
  21. Company directors hold something called a fiduciary obligation. That obligation essentially holds them to account for the well being of the company itself. I believe this obligation may even extend to actions taken after the director has left his post. For instance, I resigned a directorship a few years ago, set up a company to compete with the old one and they came after me under my fiduciary obligation to the first company! One little line that I read on the internet at the time, which stuck in my head, is that a fiduciary is expected to operate "at a level higher than that trodden by the crowd". I don't know if that is enshrined in UK law but if it is I don't think SPL chairmen are quite hitting the mark...
