PR crisis: The Rangers statement was released on Saturday

The Daily Record has hit back at Rangers after the football club accused the paper of pursuing an “anti-Rangers” agenda in an all out attack on the media on Saturday.

Rangers' statement – headlined ‘For the avoidance of doubt’ - came amid speculation of financial turmoil at the club and prompted a social media frenzy.

The statement said the club could not “waste time” responding to “every blog or ridiculous claim against this club”, adding: “Nor can we react to every journalist and publication who appear to pursue an anti-Rangers agenda, publications such as the Daily Record which today boasts yet another headline which does not accurately reflect what manager Ally McCoist said in his press conference yesterday.”

The Daily Record’s Keith Jackson responded in an article published on Monday, saying: “Saturday’s official statement was another indication of just how confused this outfit has become.”

But the swipes didn’t stop at Rangers; Jackson then went on to accuse the Scottish Sun of taking “scraps” from the table of former Rangers owner Craig Whyte – who led the club to liquidation last year – while The Daily Record had focused on proving Whyte was a “liar and a cheat”.'

As I said, you'll use it if it suits your agenda.

Look at the state of our club, start with the football team and then the accounts. What have they actually done right? In fact start at the beginning with their classy interview with chief Rangers hater Chris McLaughlin whilst sitting on a bus! Don't forget their alleged request to Ally for his friends information when it was voting time at the AGM. Hand picking Toxic Jack as their family spokesman speaks volumes for the type of people they are. Also it's funny how they have never ever been pictured inside Ibrox before they got involved with newco a few years back, in fact there are actually no stories whatsoever from anyone that these men have any affection or support of Rangers FC.

King is in the Record most days, so if giving interviews to anti Rangers media outlets is something you hold against the Easdales, surely you must hold it against King as well, or is that only when it suits your agenda?

Yes. Green, Imran and Stockbridge were the one's I didn't like/trust. They're gone and I really think Wallace is the right man for the job.

I love a bit of trolling but never do it to fellow bears when discussing Rangers. Which is ironic because I always used to get banned from FF and RM for the past 10 or so years because they said I was a troll. I wasn't - I am just a miserable cunt depressed with the way we are run!

Well, I confess I'm amazed and very disappointed to hear that. As much as I disagree with just about every word you've posted on here I would certainly back you up should anyone threaten that sort of nonsense.

Is it? Why was there no bids for any of them when they had been upfor sale for 3 years previous? The world knew we were a selling club, the world knew we were desperate, the world knew we accepted the first offer for players 9 times out of 10, the world knew our entire squad was up for sale.

 

You are clearly underestimating our perilous state when we came out of administration. We needed financial help immediately to avoid another quick administration, had even a couple of those players who fans claim are traitors tuped over and been on our newco wage bill our club would have been back down the financial swanny within days, if not weeks. It simply was not possible to keep them with their big contracts, it was impossible. Chuckles Green played a blinder and fans fell for it. I just can't see how them leaving didn't help when it's clear the club needed them off the wage bill as soon as possible. Waiting for mythical bids was never an option.

We were in a very different position than previously. Any bid would have been accepted.

Look, the notion that we wouldn't have got a fee for these players is absolutely ridiculous. They screwed us to increase their bank balance.

How do you know that Rab? There were no guarantees, there never is in football. It was a chance and huge gamble our club could not afford to take.

The club didnt get the chance to take that gamble because of them being selfish sell outs.
