  1. Flanagan sees or senses brown running at him with arm raised to pull him away or barge him. Flanagan fends him off.
  2. Stein was a robust performer, could dish it out plenty but no sneaky stuff.
  3. 2-1 the Villa.
  4. On the contrary. Fight ‘til the day is done. Just no fists, no studs and no girly shirt tugging.
  5. Yes but lost form and got only two in his third game.
  6. I hesitate to differ from the Honourable Member for Ladbroke Hill but here goes: Brighton 0-0 City Burnley 1-1 Arsenal Palace 2-1 Bournemouth Fulham 2-0 Mags Brendan Blues 2-2 Chelsea Liverpool 3-1 Wolves United 3-0 Cardiff So’ton 2-0 Town ‘Spurs 1-2 Toffees Watford 2-1 Hammers Liverpool champions. Championship Play Offs: Villa 2-2 WBA Derby 1-0 Leeds
  7. Easter Road. Fitting place for the great man to score such an important goal for Rangers because he had been one of the trinity of great Hibs centre forwards, Lawrie Reilly, Joe Baker and Colin Colin Colin Stein.
  8. There’s always an upside. Rangers would have to take the field first to uproarious acclaim. Then celtic could walk out alone to a very suitable reception showing exactly what we think of their achievement.
  9. ‘Spurs v Liverpool is a cracking tie. Arsenal v Chelsea not so much.
  10. Glory, glory Tott’nham Hotspur!
  11. I think Compo should go first in the EPL predictions next season..
  12. Wolves are ideal opponents Too good for Liverpool to be complacent and an attacking side so there won’t be any stubborn ‘bus parking. The downside for them is that Wolves might just be good enough to win.
  13. Brilliant victory. They deserve to win the tournament.
  14. Don’t laugh. Mourinho’s style of management might see Crespo, Morrientes and Raul at last making a breakthrough into the celtic first team, certainly in time for their next tour of Japan.
  15. If I were a betting man, a tenner on the Hotspurs at 12/1 would be worth it.
  16. Milner is everything that Barton was not. For that reason alone, he’ll be wanted by a host of mid-league clubs, the promoted teams and Championship hopefuls. Gerrard can dangle the prospect of future assistant at Liverpool but I don’t know if Milner has management aspirations.
  17. Specsavers for me tomorrow.
  18. They’re going to Brighton, compo.
  19. Not a police matter, though.
  20. The last ten years: Burnley, 5th. Blackpool, 6th Swansea, 3rd WHU, 3rd Palace, 5th QPR, 4th Norwich, 3rd Hull, 4th Huddersfield, 5th Fulham, 3rd Four thirds and six lower places, proving absolutely nothing because the stats on their own don’t show if the teams in third plummeted from number one or soared from number seven.
  21. Newcastle, Villa, City, Liverpool, Rangers? Boy’s career is on an upward trend.
  22. Excellent.
  23. How about Bobby Shearer under the lights at Tynecastle, 26 October, 1960? Billy Ritchie carried off after ten minutes at 0-0 and no substitutes in those days. Nonetheless the Famous beat the champions - John Cumming, Gordon Smith, Willie Bauld an’ a’ that - 1-3. What a game, what a night. I can still see the look of grim determination on Shearer’s face as he pulled on the gloves and walked back to the goalmouth. Alex and Ralphie scored for the Heroes before Smith got one for the Hearts (ach, Shearer, ye mug, ye) but Davie calmed the nerves.
  24. Start with Defoe. If he can’t unlock the defence bring on Alfie for the last half hour to batter through it. That’s a bit disrespectful to Morelos because he’s got plenty of skill as well as strength.
  25. That’s an interesting fact. I wonder how many of the third place finishers had fallen out of the top two and how many had surged up from lower places. This isn’t a demand for clarity, BSRT. If I’m too lazy to check for myself, I’ll just have to wonder.
