  1. There was a very entertaining goal in one of last night’s matches. A team’s high-scoring winger picked up a clearance midway in his own half, carved his way backwards past some of his own defenders and struck a beautiful pass to his centre half unmarked near the penalty spot who with one touch controlled the ball and guided it it into his own net well beyond the reach of his keeper who for some reason had wandered off in the opposite direction.perhaps to inspect the penalty box line marking. Rewarding viewing.
  2. With notable clubs in the running
  3. See above for excuses. We also won a bike. The team was the same as beaten by Nice just shifted about a bit and Kitchenbrand in for Logie.
  4. “Harsh” is the least they deserve.
  5. Even these stalwarts in the end were unable to overcome the wiles of continentals, skilled in the black arts aided and abetted by a referee suggested by Scottish pressmen (staunch in those days) to be not quite neutral. (George Niven is number five in my ranking of ‘Gers ‘keepers.)

    Who stays?

Many players lack self confidence. I wonder how many actually want to become confident. The team needs a Shearer, a Greig or a Gough, even a Lee Wallace to drive them on
  7. I did. It just seemed credible.
  8. Good God, man. Even I know that’s long gone.
  9. What the heck happened to Chelsea? They’re third just one point behind City.
  10. This XI put on the best Scotland performance I ever saw at Hampden against England in 1962, an easy 2-0 victory. Alex Scott roasted his opponent but that wasn’t enough to get him into Rangers’ cup final team the following week. A young lad Willie Henderson was picked instead. The photo was taken at Love Street during training. I copied it from the outstandingly excellent website, Scottish Epistles Football Magazine. Brilliant photos. Highly recommended.

    Who stays?

Cameron at Dundee. The Shankland of last season..
  12. I read plenty of moaners - I’m one of them - but that scares me.
  13. Why has it taken do long? Why were fans not consulted? Asking for friends.
  14. Were they not 13 ahead by October in O’Neil’s second season or is that a distorted nightmare memory? Your point is valid, though. The League has been gone for some time. Correct as is the rest of your summary. Hagi can take a shot at goal and is generally more forward going than Diomande. Hagi, Barron and one of the other two might be the best pick. Could do with a proper destroyer. Actually two. One in midfield and one in defence.
  15. He was maybe defence coach this week.
  16. 0-4 at the end. Didn’t see that coming. ‘Spurs can do that to a team occasionally.
  17. He’d have stopped that goal Gilligan gave away this afternoon.
  18. Naw. When did he last win a game?
  19. Or some weird fruit on trendy sideboards.
  20. Forest might surprise folk. - again. I fear Brentford will be too good up front for Everton. City should win comfortably.
  21. Question of reputation. You wouldn’t hire O’Reilly with an uncovered yard somewhere if Reliable Fabrication Worldwide plc had declined to tender. You might let the work to Well Founded Construction Ltd. though.
  22. Did that company have a decent past history or was it an opportunistic bid?
  23. They didn’t say on time, though. Much as you would like to throw up your hands about the Board again I’ll make a guess that rather than any individual director or directors trying to do it, the design, construction and supervision were all contracted out. That means architects, engineers, surveyors and contractors. In light of what Devil’s advocaat says above, what would your contingency plan have been?
  24. A decorated hero.
