  1. That is one of the worst ever. Contrast that with the Rugby chaps who have reverted to the traditional navy blue, no trim, no fancy scribbling and minimalist logo. Thay may not be all that good at playing the game but they look the part.
  2. Is that not Danny Lennon, St. Midden manager? I have every confidence the learned Judge will deal with the matter dispassionately and impartially but for his own good, instead of declaring an interest, he should have passed on this one and given it to one of his colleagues with no interest in the game. If he finds in favour of Heidi Hoop there will be many misguided and deluded individuals who will never believe it had nothing to do with his allegiance to cp. What's the Judiciary coming to? Sellick men on the Bench! In the good old days there might have been a couple of Hearts guys. The rest spent their Saturday afternoons at recitals or cataloguing their butterfly collections.
  3. WGS is a better manager than umpteen of his predecessors so we should beat Gib and we've got a chance against ROI, pale shadows of their recent selves and reverting to what they used to be. Can we sneak past Georgia and get a bit of luck against Poland? Or will our points total be 7, a win and a draw against Gib and an away win against Germany?
  4. The Iron Curtain + Willie Rae. Willie Waddell Bobby Shearer Harold Davis Don Kichenbrand John Greig Jimmy Millar Tam Forsyth Colin Jackson No one tried to kick them off the park. Those who tried it with McMillan and Baxter were "cautioned" by Mr Davis. The point is you need a few men of steel in the team. McCulloch is the only one who comes close to being an apprentice to the above mentioned.

    aye ready

I'm sure you did. Motto of the RFCSA. Rangers: "Ready." RFCSA: "Aye Ready." Makes sense.
  6. Vastly over-rated. Flashes of brilliance. The sale to 'Spurs was great business. Didn't do well there.

    aye ready

The reply will be interesting. This question was canvassed some years ago on FF -the old Rivals Board, I think. RMc was an "aye ready" man but changed his mind halfway through the debate. What exactly was JF saying above? I took the meaning that the motto was ""Ready" but the device on the stand showed "Aye Ready" for some reason?

    aye ready

The "aye" means "yes" rather than the Scots "ever" or "always". It comes from naval parlance where before some task is started the leading rate asks "ready?" and the working party responds "aye, ready" before hauling on a rope or swarming up a rigging or whatever matelots do. The badge on Mr Struth Will tell you the truth.

    aye ready

Google Images has a photo of Mr Struth - several in fact - which shows the grand old gentleman wearing natty braided blazer. The badge on it is the old heraldic shield with a lion superimposed on a St Andrew's cross. The left and right quadrants of the cross bear the date 18 71 . The bottom quadrant has the motto "Ready". Blow it up and get out the magnifying glass.

    aye ready

Don't trust wiki. The first Rangers calendar that I bought was 1957/58. "Ready" was the motto on it.
  11. Quite a nice little story but I doubt that the allegory stands up.
  12. What celtic have to the co-opy is long term debt perhaps secured by mortgage over the Stadium of Blight. Bank debt normally means a debt the bank can 'phone you up and say "gie's it the morra."

    aye ready

Sorry, Compo. You're buying. Might I suggest the Mortlach? It's about to become fashionable but it's a damn good dram for all that.

    aye ready

The motto of Rangers is "Ready" The motto of the Rangers Football Club Supporters Association is or used to be "Aye Ready". About a million years ago I had a handkerchief with the RFCSA crest and motto to that effect on it.
  15. They were raving last night on sport sound about Robertson of the Dundee Hibs. Fabulous going forward but needs to develop his defending! Call me old fashioned, call me out of touch, call me Tiger Shaw but I kind of like my defenders the other way round. By way of explanation, I was only listening to find out if the Stranraer game was on.
  16. Toure's limitations exposed and yes, City's defence is average. Kompany and Zabuleta are fine but they have weaknesses which need to be covered by good solid hard tacklers.
  17. Five signatures there. Two Aberdonians, one from a wee village in the Dons' hinterland, one Raith - what's he doing there? - and one other of dubious origin trying in an oppressive and bigoted way to undermine people's rights to be heard. In fact the petitioners make a reasonable point. In the grand old days of yore the venues were not allocated until the teams were known. If Rangers were involved the venue was Hampden the other tie going to Ibrox or on rare occasions the Stadium of Blight. Simples.
  18. That game was everything that the Gunners v United match was not. Liverpool were unlucky. Suarez is dream of a player. Superb talent and never stops working.
  19. City need a young Vidic or Terry to tighten the defence. The jury's still out on the 'keepers. The attack is sublime.
  20. Old Ally's cross from the right wing at the Stadium of Blight for Gazza to administer the last rites in his OF debut. Gazza had started the move from his own 18 yard line. No bad for a fat Geordie.

    Hullo Hullo

I wish they'd ban English fans from attempting their feeble imitations of TBB. They yap it far too quickly with ridiculous changes of key. Fair play to Timothy. He half-inched the YAWN song from 'Pool but he makes a better job of it.
  22. Tom Finney has died aged 91. Outside right with proud Preston North End for 14 years, declining a move to Italy, playing left wing and centre forward if required, scoring 30 odd goals in 70 matches for England and working in the family plumbing business - we won't see his like again.
  23. " I've got a fence for right back and a young hedge for the left but I'm still looking for a central defender ..... "
  24. What a poor game. Two outstanding saves and nothing else. RvP a pale shadow of his former self, also Rooney. No sign of Arsenal's sparkling early season form. Missing Walcott and Ramsay no doubt. Meanwhile 'Spurs have woken up and the Magpies plummet. Will Liverpool find a winner? They did! Very good. From a WBA perspective.
