  1. Just read Warburton's entry in Wikipedia, and he doesn't have a long record in management nor an illustrious playing career. One interesting fact is that he played under Jock Wallace for a short time at Leicester and did not like his training methods. Running up sand dunes until you are sick did not appeal and he stated he would never treat his players like that. That's a plus in my book as I never thought much of Ranger's playing style under Wallace.

  2. Well Walter bombed in England and Strachan was generally fighting relegation and I think that accurately depicts their level.

I agree, you don't have to be that good to be a successful manager in Scotland, and given the resources Rangers have relatively, they should have cake walked the three bottom leagues.

  3. I think that McCall has lost the plot. Playing McCulloch up front and "lobbing" balls into the box won't work. We need to get down the wings and cut the ball back to create chances.

  4. I've resigned myself to the fact we're in the championship again next season and our only route into Europe next season will be via the SC.[/quotet

The fact that Rangers couldn't even win the Ramsden Cup does not fill me with over confidence.

  5. If we fail to win promotion which looks likely, then we will not be attracting any "big name" players or managers. Hopefully our new board can find some manager/coach who can work on a budget, improve the young players we have and find some better players to bring in.

  6. This is like watching the first team.

Goalkeeper won't command his area. Shaky defence is giving everyone the jitters. Midfield is ineffective in that it doesn't know whether to attack or stay home and help the defence. Lone striker running around on his own.

Lets's hope they can turn this around in the second half.

p.s. the second C1888c goal was a beauty.

Very true. Ian Durrant maybe gives them a good laugh and a joke but as far as playing football he should be the last of the three amigos to go.

  7. Warburton isn't long term

If we're going down that path I'd go for John Hughes or Derek McInnes who I don't think would come anyway.

if we're going long term .....a different story

    D.O.F. and coach,

emphasis on youth development in both situations

I like the suggestion of John Hughes. He likes his teams to play football. He tries to improve what players he has got by coaching and encouragement. The man exudes enthusiasm. Whether the Rangers support as a whole would accept him???? I think he could be the ideal manager given our financial situation - no money.

  8. It's not that difficult to become a successful manager in Scotland. The standard is so poor. String a few results together and you will soon have BBC Sportscene heralding you as a genius. Lose your job after some bad results and the Beeb will take you on as a pundit. Given the resources that Celtic have and Rangers (used to have) then to be successful in Scotland should not be a problem.

  9. Didn't dB moot this very same question some weks ago? To which I would reiterate; the only advantage of having Moshni in midfield is that when he fucks up he still has the defense behind him to help sort it out.

let's bear in mind that he may show some skills (as he did last night) that are noteworthy for a defender, but he hasn' shown anything that suggests he would be comfortable in midfield (other than in some sort of Libero role - yes, there I've done it; compared Franz Beckenbauer to Bilel Mohsni - sue me). The obvious solution is, let's keep him in defense and have him marked by McGregor until the end of the season, then sell him to anyone who'll give us a penny for him.

Jings, Moshni is Rangers answer to Franz Beckenbauer. I sense a new thread here - comparing our duds to world greats. How about Jig as the new Bobby Moore?

  10. Help me here how do we now buy shares in the club I was waiting for a new share issue to get some shares for the grandchildren

From Tuesday the club says there will be access to "a matched bargain-trading facility" with JP Jenkins. To use this facility you will have to go through a stockbroker which probably won't be worth it, if it is a relatively low amount of shares you are after. Better to wait and see if the shares get listed on ISDX or similar.

  11. Sbragia said: “At Real Madrid, Jack can float all over the place, which he does. But with us he has to be more disciplined. He’s an exceptionally gifted lad but we can’t carry him. He can be a luxury sometimes.

“We’ve deliberately gone for more height in our squad. That’s one of the reasons why Jack isn’t in it.

“I’ve gone for a physical side and runners. Hopefully I’m proved right in Austria. It’s purely a tactical decision.”

and just to add the boy is 6ft 1... hashtag proud to be Scottish.... aye right..

Someone on here suggested Sbragia as the next Rangers manager

  12. Won one, lost one. For promotion it's the results that count. In any case, Man U lost to MK Dons 4-0, who would you bet on, if they meet again? 1 or 2 games are not much to base things on.

Actually, looking again since Ally took over and he won the series 4-1.

Eh? Hibs have beaten Rangers twice in the league this season under McCoist, and once under McDowall. We managed to beat them in the League Cup at the beginning of the season but were far from impressive.

  13. Past form suggests Ally would easily attain 2nd place, but has a 50-50 chance in big games - so likely to win the semi and lose the final for the play-offs...

Past form has Ally's team being outplayed by Hibs twice.

  14. To clarify my above post...what I'm saying is, if we get battered next year in the top league in the first quarter of games (which could happen) then the fans would leave in droves and turmoil would prevail, then again we could surge to the top like Hamilton Accies did this season after going up.

There is a risk going up this season, and I fear the board would prefer not to take that risk. Just a bears opinion.

This would be a terrible attitude for the new board. Football is all about achieving as much as you can, not resigning yourself to being second rate. We are only trying to gain promotion to the SPFL not La Liga. It is well within reach of this Rangers team if someone can motivate them or even the players themselves can wake up.
