  1. Depending on the opposition, it might work if we place him in front of the centre halfs, sweeper-like. Thus he can break up play and "bomb" forward at leisure, while we need not to worry about any defensive lapses. Given the lack of goalscoring prowess from our old-school centre forwards (i.e. Daly and Boyd), we might even throw him up front to cause chaos in the opposition defensive line-up. And we would have someone to aim at should the long-ball game becomes a necessity. His distribution to the front is far superior than his defensive skills and his ungainly style can sure disrupt the opposition build up play too. All, as I said, depending on the opposition and how we can get the best out of him. That people don't want or fancy him is another matter.

God forgive me, and I think I may be losing my mind, but I think I agree with that.

  2. Didn't dB moot this very same question some weks ago? To which I would reiterate; the only advantage of having Moshni in midfield is that when he fucks up he still has the defense behind him to help sort it out.

let's bear in mind that he may show some skills (as he did last night) that are noteworthy for a defender, but he hasn' shown anything that suggests he would be comfortable in midfield (other than in some sort of Libero role - yes, there I've done it; compared Franz Beckenbauer to Bilel Mohsni - sue me). The obvious solution is, let's keep him in defense and have him marked by McGregor until the end of the season, then sell him to anyone who'll give us a penny for him.

  3. Read that part again....... Negri says AMORUSO'S girlfriend had to pay for her own stuff - he doesn't complain about his own girlfriend paying for her own stuff....

Amazing sometimes how we read what we want to read and not what is actually in type.....

fair point - I was getting ahead of myself there, but anyone who knew Negri's girlfriend would excuse my hastiness.

  4. FWIW, I was working at Ibrox at the time and had frequent dealings with Amoruso, in which he always behaved with class and integrity (and not only because he gave me comps). The stuff about talking to Rino's may have some basis in truth, but that was only because Amo saw Rino as a daft wee laddie - which he was a the time; forever getting speeding tickets and spending money like it was going out of fashion. ( Gazza actually cut up his credit cards and flushed them down the toilet - and when Gazza is telling you that you're going too far, then you know something is not right). Amo had a younger brother of about the same age as Rino and imho anything he did regarding Gattuso was done like an older brother looking out for the kid. Add to that, he was also club captain and saw it as his job to watch out for the youngsters.

I can't go into detail, but trust me when I say that I wouldn't trust a word Negri or his girlfriend said about anything. The supermarket story where she would expect someone else to pay for her stuff rings very, very true.

  5. I think that's a fair comment.

I'd be interested in comparisons from the 1980s (and early 70s) which we both ahead of my time.

Did fans just drift away or did they force change? What part did nigh net worth investors play then?

The 80s was a while ago but if my memory is accurate there was no forcing of change and concerted effort on the part of the fans. People simply stopped turning up to watch rubbish. The impetus for change came from the top in response to the drifting away of the support but there certainly weren't any demonstrations or groundswell of protest.

i don't think it would be fair to lump in the early 70s here. We did actually have a very good team at the time - in fact I think we won some sort of international competition round about then ;) - we just happened to be up against one of the best teams in Europe at the time.

  6. The problem was imo, we were too used to the good life. David Murray wasn't one for listening to the support, it was his way or the highway, As a result the supporters groups were impotent, which in turn fostered a high degree of apathy amongst the rank and file, as long as we were winning trophies very few gave a monkey's, well maybe it was just me?

When it came to the doomsday scenario few if any were prepared, but now because of what we have gone through, the support has re engaged with the club.

I feel like a veteran, boring anyone who can be bothered listening. boasting about storming the pavements of Edmiston drive with the SOS, retreating from the Copland after watching us getting beat with better football by some small provincial club. The journey back from the lower divisions was our Dunkirk, then our VE day (Victory in Edmiston Drive)

Her indoors rolls her eyes when i regale her of our heroic fightback and the characters involved, also Mike Ashley my part in downfall. Ok i might just have exaggerated my part in that a wee bit.

With the utmost respect to the veterans of real conflict, we have been through hell. I don't think we have seen it all just yet, but we are ready now, tempered by the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune.

Right that's my coffee break over back out to face the world .

    Sorry to be a bore.

No post that references Spike Milligan and Shakespeare and describes Dunkirk as a victory can be called boring, awbsas. Insane, maybe but not boring :). Also I wonder if it would be more accurate to say that the supporters have engaged, rather than rengaged with the club. I don't ever recall the support being greatly interested in who was in the boardroom before 2012.

  7. Just read this thread again and think I owe the op a wee apology. Did not mean to compare your view to the papers and the demented. In fact think I must have had a wee turn as my post does not even really relate to yours, lol

Mind all the glorious Hearts stuff was irritating me at the time right enough but can't see what we could have done differently. The debts and sale were all down to an owner who had complete control. Maybe if he wasn't as credible we would have been more vocal but doubt it would have made a massive difference. A boycott is our only real weapon and whyte wouldn't have let that put him off. Hopefully the fan involvement at boardroom level will mean this can't happen again. The rest has been down to mismanagement and lack of planning which has been abysmal in comparison to Hearts but that's because we were taken over by a bunch of greedy clowns. But we've managed to remove them now so here's hoping.

No apology needed, bud - I didn't think you were calling me demented. Although I do disagree to a certain extend about the fans. Overall, I think the Rangers fans have been magnificent throughout this entire debacle; supporting the club when it needed to be and boycotting the board when it needed to be. For a period there, the fans were the only recognisable thing of the club. However, there is a schizophrenia in our support that simply isn't there among the Jambos.

As soon as they got the chance, they unified, acted and got the job done. We, on the other hand, seem to be divided into two groups. The people whose only interest is the well-being of Rangers and those who will blindly follow follow whatever the power structure of the day happens to be and will defend the indefensible for longer than is mentally healthy. These people will put their own egos, politics and personal agendas before the good of the club no matter how much damage they cause.

  8. are we going to have to look at Hearts and think "why can't we do that?" after they sign a shirt sponsorship deal that allows them to carry a Save the Children logo instead of a commerical company?

At least the way they have rescued and structured their club gives us something to aim at.

  9.

If you believe the state media BBC and the Tory supporting Telegraph's published answer to an unpublished question - but then why would anyone ever believe anything they say? Both pillars of the same British establishment that threw us to the dogs.

  10. fantastic statement.

No flannel; no moonbeams and my favourite part is this: Although we are looking to the future we will also examine and act upon any evidence of past impropriety by former Directors and executives

  11. Imagine the same situation but with Guidetti and the H word, replaced by Vuckic (for example) and the F word. Do you think we'd have been allowed to dismiss it and let it blow over?

When Rangers employees use offensive language they either resign, are fined and/or are forced to make a public apology.

  12. While you're maybe being a bit harsh on Gazza8, you've identified the only issue worth bothering about here; it's not Guidetti singing a song, the meaning of which is unknown to him, it's the behaviour and hypocrisy of Celtic FC in attempting, yet again, to deflect, deny and avoid.

This behaviour follows a pattern. No matter what the charge, either to player, club or fans, they will fight it and attempt to bully their way out of it if possible. They are the biggest club in the top flight and they have the resources to throw at any charge against them - or indeed anyone who displeases them. This makes it an unappealling prospect for the authorities in Scotland to bring them to task on anything.

I think it's fairly instructive that UEFA, for whom Celtic are a piddling minnow, hammer them time after time, whereas in Scotland nothing happens to them for the same offenses.

  13. so, let me get this right; a Swedish man, of Italian heritage speaking to a Dutch TV station is being charged for using Irish history to insult a Scottish football team whilst on loan from the English champions.

Is that about it? Have I missed anything?

  14. Betrayal? In what way is he different from McGregor, say? Could we really expect Scotland players to give international places and play in the Scottish 3rd division? All in the name of loyalty? Lee Wallace was the exception - he may have harmed his career by staying here. But, hey he was loyal so that's all that matters. Naimith in his off-field activities has proved a good role model, with his comments about the unemployed etc.

He could have tuped across and then moved on, allowing the club to get something for him. OK, it would have been money wasted as it turns out, but nobody knew that at the time. Instead he left without a backward glance after that self-serving news conference. I would never have him back, nor the other two amigos.

  15. This is just getting out of hand. So Hearts players sang a song which was less than complementary about us. So what?

Let them get on with it - because we sure as hell will be doing the same and worse when we win the top division again.

Let's leave the permanent po-faced, sanctimonious offendedness to them

  16. Criminal. Noun or adjective, that is the question.

I'm fairly sure that if a director of a company knowingly or recklessly embarks on a course of action which is detrimental to that company, then the director can be personally sued for any losses incurred by the company. Let's see.

  17. I missed the game. Was there any signs of improvement at all over the last 2 matches ?

strong signs of improvement. The tempo and desire look to be coming back, along with a bit of character. The glaring weakness is in defense and both goals we conceded were entirely down to player incompetence but the midfield and forward line (once Oompah Loompah was substituted) looked up for it.

The good thing was that Forster, Miller, Black, Mohsni weren't in the starting line up and hopefully never will be again - maybe a bit harsh on Mohsni. The bad news is that jig and Boyd were.

If the rumours are true about Jig's contract requiring him to play every game he's fit, McCall has to make a decision.

  18. he has brought no change whatsoever

the team selections have been awful

he even changed GK - who incidentally was awful last night.

ANYTHING other than dropping the clown who is central to how piss poor we are.

OK, what would your team for last night have been? And why do you think a manager who has proven himself over 3 seasons as the best manager in the country didn't choose the team you did?
