Poll: Steven Gerrard as Rangers manager - Yea or Nay?
trublusince1982 replied to Frankie's topic in Rangers Chat
Sorry should have been clearer. That figure is from me. Was told it a while back when King et al took over. Comes from club. Had thought at the time of canixiha etc it had became public knowledge yeah true we don't know who we are looking at but we do know what has occurred. Warburton, Canixiha , Mccinnes and murty. Common sense tells you the wage is lower than say a mil since these guys aren't in that bracket edit to add to the above its not that they're no manager options available in the whole footballing world who want and could do the job. It's we can't find a manager within our own set parameters who is attractive to the full board. That's why we got stuck with murty (it was a stalemate) That in my mind is because the parameters (wage, style, knowing the league, British) that king is demanding has limited the options to a degree that is unpalatable and not sufficient for our current predicament. I blame one man, King. I would put money on the fact it's his love of Liverpool and love of Gerard as a player that is seeing us accept Gerard instead of going back to the drawing board and resetting our wants and package and finding agreement across the board. He is a bully and knows no other way to deal since Steve Clarke has now said we have not approached him for me that just shows we are gambling way more than we need to and is prudent to do, all because King wants British and has a love for Gerard that is blinding him to the abhorrent level of risk associated. Hes covering the the cost so of course it's upto him but that doesn't mean I will sit quietly and watch him run us into the ground same as I did with green and Ashley. People at the club are worried. The board are not working as one. Though I'm sure each in his own way thinks they are. -

Ignores context. A gamble must be weighed within context of not just the upside/downside but prudence. At this point with all considered we should be mitigating the gamble as far as humanly possible. Going tried and tested obviously doesn't guarantee success but it does lower the chance of failure Gerrard sees the risk grow exponentially. There is zero mitigating positives. He has done zero manager wise to make anyone see a guardiola who for instance caused ripples with his youth style and success. Taking the best youth manager around who has success under his belt is less of a gamble than say a guy who hasn't stood out. -

You always start positive Pete then when it goes to shit change your tune quickly. You moan anytime anyone calls it as it is from the get go. Being honest has has zero to do with wanting failure, actually it's the complete opposite. I want us to succeed so much I'm not getting swept up in nostalgic romanticism that ignores common sense and good judgement. Agree wouldnt want WS or AM either. would however expect and demand the person whoever it is is a professional manager with experience and licences to match, at a bare minimum. No? The persuit of which is worth upping the managerial wage to £1m with it coming out the transfer kitty or youth costs in the short term. obviously the wage on offer is far below where we expect to be and that's hard to take, but we are making silly decisions that narrow the possibilities even further. Things like must know the Scottish game etc. Just complete nonsense tbh. Scary that our board see that as a just criteria and leaves us with under 18's managers. it seems to be unfashionable to say but we can't gamble as greatly and desperately as we are. All hires are a gamble true but not the same gamble. This gamble is ludicrous and very very unlikely to work. -

Yeah it's the great player so excitement as a manager I don't get. Everyone knows it doesn't work like that. with our position and need I just don't get how anyone can be truly excited by this prospect and the most likely outcome. Nice to be romantic and dream but there is a time and place and this sure ain't it I get folk like Pete like to see the positive in every move we make and would prefer to ignore the obvious but surely after the time we have had and the level of risk a bad decision posses at this time people put such notions of blind faith aside? Does it not get really annoying to constantly back idiotic decisions with positive reinforcement to watch it blow up time after time? Would it not be better to call a spade a spade? We are literally using some far out reasons here to see this positively. Stuff like positive press coverage or could attract better players when we all know these things either don't matter in the immediate or are not as black and white as being portrayed? Yes young players will see Gerard as a bonus to coming here but how many do we honestly think would only come if he was here? It's more another incentive to a player coming but that is not even close to being worth the gamble of a rookie in charge that hasn't shown anything special as a manager so far. sick to death of watching us make awful move after awful move and we as fans are just meant to be nodding dogs who believe in this insanity. We all said vigilance is key maybe we should add a bit about not ignoring the obvious perils when making decisions. Suppose this is why fans on a board rarely works. Chase dreams to the detriment of success -

No idea how a guy third in the lesser u18 league can somehow promote excitement as a manager. Guess it's just me . Starting to feel like the world has gone insane. Maybe this time it will workout and not be another massively stupid idea as it seems on paper. Suppose can hope that the constant rolling of dice has to pay off one time surely -

Right now obviously not. We are a complete basket case and most are making up ludicrous reasons to get behind decisions ohh on a side note I have a bridge to sell if your interested it's prominently placed in London -

No sorry don't see it at all. Don't see it attracting any extra sales infact the opposite tbh certainly don't see it being spun positively in the press. It will be called for what it is. Mental. He doesn't even have a pro licence just level four. -

Warnock is light years ahead of Gerard as a candidate. Can someone explain what's exciting about the prospect of Gerard coming in? No wrong answers just don't get it personally. As a person the rumours and acts have always made him look a bit daft and his managerial career is middling at best tho very early days. Think the comments of him attracting players makes no real sense tbh. Why would any player base their career moves on a untested manager just because he was a great midfielder in his day? Can't see people forgoing money or decent league or European football to play for Gerard !! Doesn't in anyway mean he can pass that knowledge on. If being a great player attracts players why don't we bring in gazza?? -
Sounds like we are either trying to cash in or his agents been upto no good

Hope Goram slaps him

Kilmarnock have a cap of £1000 a week and I know for a fact McNamara was on £70k at Thistle and then got double when took over at Utd. We shouldn't pay anymore for a completely untested manager. Agree maybe I was a bit low and upto £150k is maybe more realistic though bonuses and sponsorship deals more readily available with us should see a lower basic than the likes of thistle who's win bonus ain't expected with regularity . all that being said reading what Gerard has said since taking over Liverpool under18's it seems very unlikely he would come here. -

For me still doesn't explain the drop. Clark isn't that good of a manager and way below where I would see us but he is without doubt a far higher caliber than Mccinnes canixiha and Gerard . We are shopping down at Motherwell level here. Literally guys who should be paid no more than £70-80k a year. Literally McNamara level when he was at thistle. if we pay Gerard anything above £100k then everyone involved should be sacked. got to be serious questions asked here. We go for a under 20's coach who is useless in murty and its explained off as wanting a better caliber come summer then come summer we go for another under 20's coach. Sorry but we must be in serious trouble. No other explanation explains what's going on especially when added to the fact our new signing policy seems to have reverted to freebies and loans again. nobody who cares for the club wants to think it or believe it but it's past the point of denial now. Something serious is up -
So another playing with no stomach for a fight. Great.

Not even sure he would be the third best manager in the league. Just cant fathom how we can fall so low so quickly that we can't even attract a better manager than Kilmarnock. Must be some serious issues behind the scenes. -

Terrible decision. Green was a thief Ashley is a conman but for Christ sake this board is as bad. We must be in a terrible financial position. running like an amateur club whilst charging like a professional club. I give up I truly do. Atleast save myself some money this coming season. -
yes as a support we are definitely xenophobic. Any changes and we start crying for the British way or the so called rangers way. We can't build anything because to do so would take time. Most of our support decide if we have had a good day dependent on what "they" have or did do, not on progression. Far more fans interested in just being better than them than being all we can be. Pretty much every foreign manager has been chased and slagged off, all because we know better. Yet we are a terrible footballing nation. We learn from nobody and it shows. We rate foreigners who take up our way not their own. We scoff at tactics, dietitians and pretty much any advancements in football. This year alone has seen constant calls for long balls and just winning. Most couldn't care less if our style or ways mean we will never amount to anything in Europe, just so long as we do better than them. playing from the back sees boos and derision if we aren't 5 up in twenty minutes. Our support knows very little of tactics or talks about such, as is the Scottish approach. Phone-ins are just filled with idiots having a go at enemies with zero talk of football. Coverage of football here tells us all we need to know about those reading and paying for it Do do we even have a plan as a club? Are you aware of any plan and milestones? Do you want any? Or is it just one goal? The only thing we are doing is scrambling around trying to find a quick fix that will see us best them. Nobody seems to care past that one want. It's sad.

Sorry but the best financial deal negotiated by a guy who's only experience was doing same for Motherwell. Plus again it's not the best financial offer, that's only true if short term desperation is measure. in the long run this will cost us income and lower our future potential to attract better deals as strip numbers drop as a result . -

What bonuses and should be using rumoured £10m? Can tell you now there is zero chance Hummel are paying a flat £10m. Absolutely none. Whoever is pushing that is at it. these are snippets added by fans to try and understand the deal and make it more palatable. We will see the accounts a year after the deal starts and I bet it's not even £2m a year. My guess £1m with forty- fifty percent of sales with us covering some costs. Thought the names you mention where sponsors not kit manufacturers but been a while so you could be correct although pretty sure they were all dumped pretty quickly for a reason -
More of a chance of murty staying than De Boer coming or Gio. ??? for 500k the choices are very limited as far as big names go. Steve Clarke is best bet but as said above doubt he would be interested. is Monk in work yet? Who's doing good in league one or two? Probably closer to our current market.

Always the same people who agree with every move the club makes yet are always left scratching their heads when it goes to shit. All our moves are based on desperation. We cheapen the brand day after day dragging the prestige of the club with us, then wonder why we can't attract better sponsorship and players. It's because we look cheap and desperate amoungst other things. A strong club would stand it's ground and stick to its principles like we used to. -

How do you make as much money as possible by producing a below par product? Not how it works I'm afraid. put it this way I'm in Calpe right now and watched Calpe FC this morning playing in a Hummel strip. Used as a cheap strip and mass utilised by most European amateur sides. Not used by many who attract large sales of kit or have any care for such. Guess it's what happens when you have a guy from Motherwell run Rangers in the same fashion. Dreadful strip picked by a dreadfully incoherent board drastically out their depth. Had hoped AJ would bring more brand awareness and show them transport and banking are no experience for running a club like Rangers. Cutting cloth without long term awareness harms the brand and football is all about the brand.
