  1. Oh yes, it's one of the points/questions I always raise, RangerRab. One of the key things that need to be cleared up and recompensed/brought to justice. I was merely answering the "fit and proper" thing - it did not actually exist in any meaningful form as an SFA or SPL requirement. I know that sounds crazy but then this is Scottish Football............
  2. At the time it was a club's responsibility to ensure it was run by "fit and proper" people. Not sure what the situation is now, post Whyte (will be interesting vis-a-vis Green).
  3. There was a reason Whyte was only known to show panic when it appeared D&P might not get appointed as Administrators. D&P proceeded to show all of us who feared the implications of this were correct in a blizzard of contradictory moves and statements and a lengthy facade after promising the club to Whyte's other pal (at that time at least) Green as early as February. Green himself having acknowledged he knew he'd get the club then.
  4. You could go on a website and do something other than rave about Charles Green as the Second Coming of Christ, (not Whyte the anti-Christ). Really? Have you ever tried this theory out?) [insert smiley JOKE symbol]
  5. I don't get it at all. There's talk of extra money for Div 1 clubs: where is this coming from? Why the panic for change before next season kicks off? There's something we are not being told behind all this.
  6. Press Release ~ SPL Clubs agree change At an all-club meeting earlier today at Hampden Park, the 12 Scottish Premier League clubs unanimously agreed on a package of measures that would deliver a merged league in time for season 2013/2014. The principles include: - a single merged league of 42 clubs, in line with the stated preference of SFL1 clubs - a 12-10-10-10 divisional structure - an all-through distribution model involving substantial redistribution to the second tier - a â??pyramidâ?? for the entire game - play-offs involving team 11 in the SPL and teams 2, 3 and 4 in the division below A formal proposal to deliver the above will be brought back to the SPL clubs for voting this month. The SPL looks forward to working with the Scottish FA and Scottish Football League to deliver vibrant change for the game as a whole. Chairman Ralph Topping commented: "I am pleased that SPL clubs have today agreed on a way forward for the game in this country. We have tremendous sympathy with the SFL1 clubs and their plight and with their shared ambition for a 42-club solution. "Much work needs to be done in a short space of time to achieve our objective of a single merged league this summer. But, where there is a will, there is a way. The time for action is now."
  7. Many thanks for this, well put. I read something else from TRS this morning that ended with the comment (re banter) that it's all supposed to be fun, after all...................well, no, after all that has happened banter and fun are dead for me, forever. They used to be a major part of it all before others destroyed the concept.
  8. whatever side one takes in this debate - or , indeed, if one has many agreements and disagreements with both sides - can I ask, as politely and humbly as possible, that everyone refrains from throwing the term "Nazi" about? It's mis-applied, childish and when used so, is generally accepted as the point at which people should stop being listened to.
  9. 1. Hard to say - who knows, could take years looking at Leeds and Portsmouth. Once you let vermin in and feed them, they tend to breed and be reluctant to leave. Whyte was/is the first of a succession I fear. 2. You've got to be joking.
  10. Lots of rumours re this. Mad ill Phil and his followers are all abuzz that we are heading for Armaggedon (again). More worryingly, Keech Jackson is warning of "stormy seas dead ahead" and I've been told Roddy Forsyth is hinting at same. Of course they could all be reading ill Phil's predictions and covering the possibility. Lets hope its just saddoes' rumours.....but given recent years, we all fear the worst whenever these surface.
  11. 4-1 Rae, set up by God That's how it ended. 23,177 attendance. Brilliant day
  12. Ally again - raking free kick that he insisted on taking
  13. Sorry! Good fun this though, eh? novo's shooting aside ;-)
  14. Ally scores via a deflection of Trevor Steven... Amo and Mols back on
  15. it has been great fun. Goram and Albertz outstanding. Novo trying too hard to score but otherwise great. Fabulous passes from Andrews and Rae...wonder goal from Albertz.... and Mols about to come back on
  16. this, the most salient fact of all, seems to be scarcely ever remembered by anyone
  17. Thanks, Zappa. I hope you are correct but it does not read like that: "stormy waters dead ahead" sounds specific and imminent.
  18. I got another shock to the system re these future years in an article a pal just e-mailed me. In the midst of a piece about how Scottish football is dying of self-inflicted wounds (not exactly revelatory but a change of tone from even a few months ago re #booming), Keech Jackson writes: Yes, Rangers packed more than 50,000 into Ibrox on Saturday to celebrate the handing over of a trophy which had previously meant about as much to them as an empty can of lager. But there are more stormy waters dead ahead for this club before it can be cleansed of its own crisis. Soon they may be in desperate trouble once more. Now for all we may think he's risible as a journalist, he clearly has one or more inside sources of info and, so, this kind of comment gives me the heebie jeebies. I am not sure how much more I (we?) can take to be honest. I feel like I'm cracking up with nervous exhaustion after the last few years.
  19. they almost certainly would (have to) - but I don't think we will be getting that offer
  20. Scottish Cup Final. What a day. In the Stand with my dad. Some timz in at our end for some reason behind us. Two old codgers (about my age now, probably) - I would have chinned them otherwise for what they called wee Alex McDonald as he lay poleaxed at half time. I so enjoyed saying goodbye to them as they left. The singing and celebrations after the full time whistle were awesome. 122,000 officially, many more methinks! Royalty. Parlane! Alfie before he became a traitor and then, of all people, big Tam with the "pile-driver" of a winner. I was deemed too young for the 1970 final (a bitter family row) and had therefore suffered many years of losing leagues and cups to them....what a sweet victory this one was.
  21. No sarcasm, I thought it was very emotional. I love Ally as an ambassador and of course as a player, I love my club. I was welling up - not sure what I've said to give you any other impression. Surely just because I disagree with his managerial decisions and some interview comments isn't enough for you to want me whacked over the head with a spade (if that's what you meant). Hey I'd love Ally to prove me wrong and be as succesful a manager with us as he was a goalscorer or is at handling the media. I'd be deliriously happy for him to turn it around managerially-wise. The reason we were talking about such things now is because of the interview with him that came out yesterday morning.
  22. I can all too easily believe that, derB; so much so that I would even have predicted it.
