  1. it was the advent of supplements that did for my shoulder!! plus you could only get about 30 papers into one bag and you had to head back to the shop for a 2nd load on a Sunday, where was the paper boys union then for an extra 10p for the extended working hours?
  2. enjoy watching the Premiership and there were a bunch of good games today, still watching MotD now, but one of the things I don't like, and it was exactly the same about what I disliked about Seria A in the 90's, when that was Europe's biggest and richest league, was the ability of the elite teams of this continent to buy players for the sake of other teams not being able to play them. So now the EPL is supposedly (still prefer Spanish footie) that league we have the likes of Chelsea and Man City with the pick of eleven players from two team sheets that would still beat the best first XI of most EPL teams. Will the new wage structure rules change this? Would love that to be the case and make the league even more competitive, but not convinced. It also denies the neutral spectator the opportunity to see the best players playing on a week on week basis, which is what Mourinho alluded to in his interview, either this morning or yesterday.
  3. it has to come down to the right people, with the right credentials being in charge of the Club. I don't see the Easdales as being malicious in their running of Rangers, inexperienced and unknowledgeable, yes. It is down to experience and McColl has that, his CV strap line is 'company doctor', but on an impressive scale. a turn around expert, sounds exactly the kind of capable hands we need. not really bothered if he doesn't invest his own cash, in the first couple of years, but as a man with his depth of business acumen, the best offer we've had so far. Him and King on the board, has the potential to be a dream ticket. A big aspect of their credibility for me is that they're both proven Rangers fans, unlike what we've been presented with before. That is key to me in the trust stakes and I think that word has materialised a lot in conversations and threads recently, again, based on the charlatans who have duped many of us in the past.

    Slim Jim

when you think about what we have now; a player can't fart in Scottish league two without it becoming a U-tube hit, but the coverage of Baxter is so limited, for a footballing legend. I just missed out on being old enough to witness his graceful skills first hand, though had a few beers in his bar at Paisley Road West when doing some work locally and saw him first hand on a few occasions, just to say I'd met Jim Baxter.
  5. it's all within our published accounts, however I think one of the Contributors on here is, at minimum, an Accountant and he reviewed the last set of accounts and I think he found it a little 'taxing' to follow the trail of where the money went, to whom and for what reason.
  6. it's a generation thang! I'm old and have just mastered teletext, so it would probably take me another ten years to master how you do some of the technological feats you mention in your quote above. I thought PS3 was a robot in Star Wars.
  7. do agree that the first Scotland goal was a great move, but that was the first time they'd strung more than two passes together.
  8. still use Sky text, agree with Calscot, good to use when you're in front of the telly, split screen stuff, mixture of sport and text, Sky had a dedicated Rangers page, thought it was good information source. Disappointed to see it go, in fact had been trying it today and couldn't work out why it wasn't working, until I read this!
  9. watched the majority of the game; whatever happened to the simple pass, particularly on a sodden pitch, with a gale blowing and continuing, heavy rain, players on both teams going for the long, glory ball?
  10. apparently the last straw was when he was heard saying, by the Hibs board; 'why are they playing the Ramsdens final at such a small ground'
  11. I don't know for certain if Jim McColl and his associated board is or will be the right answer for Rangers and the people that will stop us talking about board room politics and focussing on games and team selections, which is, I am sure, where we all want to channel our conversations, but he has a much clearer and cleaner public profile, has strong evidence of historical relevance to the job requirement, does not need to extract cash from the Club, has promised transparency and is a fan. For those reasons I have more confidence in McColl than previous incumbents. Would McColl and his team appoint a fan representative to their Board to better guarantee that transparency, would certainly be a popular move for us and maybe help us all sleep a little easier?
  12. fair point and agreed that the Tories don't seem to need much of an excuse to handover much needed public services to the private sector.
  13. the other side to that is that if every MP had allegiance to their personal viewpoints then we'd have 600+ political parties and we'd have more elections than Italy.
  14. I'm not a supporter of the Tory party, but in respect of individual policies this one works to our ends.
  15. another issue for the likes of Stockbridge and the Easdales is that they're not people who have a high calibre business or football pedigree. The Easdales have done very well but on a local basis, so not London shakers. Stockbridge has a limited CV and again has no footballing pedigree and is not a recognised business mover. as they have very limited connections they cannot make approaches in the same way that McColl can, ie Christian Purlow, hence the CEO advert in the Financial Times. Additionally, how would the Easdales and Stockbridge review CV's and appoint someone to that position given their lack of credible backgrounds in such decisions? Would they need to appoint someone to make that decision (another waste of Club money). I've no issues with the Easdales investing in Rangers and believe they are supporters, but they do need to recognise that they operate in a dual carriageway world and we need board level resources who are used to driving on the autobahns of this world, particularly in the fast lane.
  16. this is a good time to complain. Grant Shappas, the Tory party Chairman, has raised the spectre of removing the publically funded license fee cash cow from the BBC, because of, amongst other things, their lack of impartiality. perhaps this is the man we should be directing our complaints to, as well as the BBC exec's in London? These kind of continuing issues must make the London exec's squirm at the thought of such pathetic in-house prejudice adding fuel to the fire of their public funding being removed. for me there has been a lack of BBC contrition and there does not seem to be any showing of the necessary processes and procedures in place to ensure no repeat of such incidents reoccurring. There are employees within the BBC who flagrantly flaunt their tawdry rules and confirm that impartiality is not a watch word at BBC Scotland. with access to in excess of 50k supporters we can show our backing for the Tory party initiative to remove this misappropriation of our public cash to an entity who can't control their employees, without necessarily registering political allegiances. It is something that fans can be united about, forgetting, momentarily, our own backyard, boardroom political problems. it will also add short term pressure to the Beeb in Scotland, given that any move to remove public funds will bring into question many of their jobs.
  17. I doubt that it was the Easdales idea to reappoint him.
  18. next time we hear some SFA or SPFL official spout forth about the need for sponsorship, football being a business, etc, etc, try not to choke on your coco pops!
  19. if anything he is entrenching viewpoints, in both directions. The Club should be looking to bring the fans together, instead, through Irvine, they're trying to tarnish the name of one of Scotland's most successful business men. it is not how our Club should be run and agree that spending our dwindling cash pile in confrontational and questionable communications is at best naïve.
  20. as people have said the fact that McColl even went public and provided an interview shows his concerns and the fact that he is a fan and wants his team in the best hands. This guy made Clyde Blowers into a massive business, took them through 2 x IPO's (with 5% expenses, not 25%), is the biggest business man who has voiced an opinion on the current set up and what he visualises in the future. His comments have to carry serious weight. McColl (his board) and King together, I think, as real Rangers men, would be a great ticket. I think if the Easdales can be persuaded there is still a place for them within the Club then they can get rid of Stockbridge and take over the ship tiller. Can understand why McColl was nervous, moving himself into the limelight, which he is obviously not comfortable doing, some like that some do not, ie Whyte and Green loved it! If you read Jim McColl's bio you can't help be impressed about how he got started, pushed himself through further education and his business history from there. Doesn't seem to have made many bad decisions.
  21. so they know the finalists for the Ramsdens Cup Final and they choose a ground with a capacity of 22k, they don't know the finalists for the Scottish Cup Final and choose the pigsty. Whatever way I look at it; financially, for the fans or for the occasion, I can't see Easter Road being the right decision.
  22. this topic has proven one thing; we claim that they're obsessed about us, but our standard seems to be very slightly above what they do and we seem to think that give us the moral ground. we should forget their fans altogether and just focus on doing what is right, end of, we can't go wrong then. but unfortunately we have a very small minority of fans who will never get that and we'll never move away from such incidents, people who will never learn and continue to tarnish the name of our team. these people deserve to be locked up, they're not Rangers fans, just arseholes who unfortunately have an allegiance to the same team as me.
  23. Ferguson will always be a great Rangers player to me, read the story at the start of this thread myself and would have to read it again with a bit more scrutiny myself to dig up the pathetic scraps of dirt you have.
  24. think Wenger has transformed Arsenal into the kind of team who I love to watch and play the kind of football I love, exciting good to watch and on the ground, similar to what Ferguson did with Man U. the only criticism I have of Wenger is that he could have spent more money on new players to get to where he wanted to be, sooner. He owed that to the Arsenal fans, at least, who have been patient and supportive of their manager. Ozil is an inspired signing, and Arsenal may well win something this season and I hope they do, but they should have been competitive before this season, with the right signings.
  25. well Ian Black is doing well for Rangers and I'd say that Ferguson was Black with added class, don't dislike Black, he does the simple things well, but is definitely someone who goes for the glory ball, Ferguson was more keep possession, slip in passes on the ground, sure there were seasons when Ferguson scored double figures as well. holding on to possession was never an issue he had as well, very strong on the ball.
