  1. While I agree with your opinion to a great extent there's also a bit of me that feels if the manager thinks Walker could be the final piece in the jigsaw then we have to get him in before the start of the season.

What is he worth? Say 500K? Transfer market rates him at 750K So for the sake of another 250K we could be going into the season weaker than we otherwise might have been. We seriously need to hit the ground running hopefully taking all points before the visit of the unmentionables and if Walker is the key to that an extra 250K is worth it.

christ if he thinks that we're in even deeper shit than i first thought

  2. we were on the M1 turn off at Bletchley......we'd hitched down for a pre season friendly with Tottenham (we got gubbed of course) and spent 3 nights rough in Euston station (you could do that in them days...1967 or '68..)

it was next day early doors and we'd got dropped off. Pishing down, we sheltered under the motorway bridge

Alex started clappin', I gave it the sash, then we shuffled the gallus walk under the tunnel breaking into the Billy Boys

    our spirits soared ........

and we got a lift to the A5 that took us cross country to the M6 then up the road no problemo

    the lesson endeth here

the real way to follow on

none of this £5 travel voucher for muffins

  3. I've got the feeling Pena will play as one of two DMs. He's a box-to-box player that likes to arrive late, rather than an orthodox attacking midfielder. I can see Dorrans being the No.10, although that doesn't leave room for Kranjcar!!

    Foderingham

    Tavernier - Alves - Cardoso - Wallace

    Jack - Pena

    Candeias - Dorrans/Kranjcar - Dalcio/Miller

    Herrera/Morelos

I've not been impressed with Wallace, so I'd prefer Beerman -- or at least given a shot, but I doubt it.

Miller has been piss poor in that inside forward role, but he might be better with a more attacking player (Pena) behind him, with more support and options; Dorrans is more mobile than Kranjcar too.

We've not got many natural wingers, but we do have options in Windass, Holt, Dodoo and Waghorn in an inside forward role. Not ideal, but they can play there -- if indeed it is an inside forward role.

A 4-2-2-2 (or even a 4-4-2 diamond) could be interesting too, with Kranjcar and Dorrans as double No.10s and our FBs providing the width:

    Fod

    Tav - Alves - Cardoso - Wallace

    Jack - Pena

    Dorrans - Kranjcar

    Morelos/Miller - Herrera

nothing down either side of the pitch than tavernier and wallace?

    no thanks

  4. The income received from a European run, even say 3 rounds of qualies, was essential to our budget, planning, future seeding, everything the club stands for and has been desparate to get back to for the last 5 years. Failure to beat a really poor team OVER TWO LEGS is not a blip, bad night, or any such write-off. It was his second most important remit for this season, behind closing the gap at the top and ensuring a clear second place.

I was happy for Pedro to use this tie to bed in his players and use it as a pre-season friendly. We should have been able to rest our entire first team and play our under 20 side who would beat the part-timers no problem. We used to send our U20 to play Linfield's first team and still beat them comfortably. Progres were that level of side, and should have been brushed aside in both legs without breaking sweat.

The nature of the capitulation was most worrying, not the fitness level, not the integration of team harmony, but the attitude of these players and that comes down to the manager. He has been gushing at pressers saying he has been working hard with them in pre-season and they all know what he wants. He has weeded out those who dont believe in him and vice-versa, and been heavily backed by the board in providing all his transfer targets were purchased at the earliest possible moment. Why Pena and Herrera were both involved in full training but didnt start (in Pena's case not even benched) when they cant be that far behind the others, and certainly would be no less fit than our opponents, is another question for the manager.

Going on from a few gutless performances last season since his introduction, including a OF cup semi final and the most humiliating OF home defeat, the evidence is there for all to see that this guy IS the dud that a lot of us worried he might be when news of his impending appointment was leaked.

The information I got from someone very close to the inside track and the Directors (who knew we had lost the BTC on Tuesday) is very scary as to the real appointment and recruitment process which hired Pedro and all the subsequent players.

We can give Pedro all the time that even his staunchest supporters want to give him - it is NOT going to turn around and Stevie Wonder can see it. It seems to me the main reason for keeping him is to avoid the embarrassment of binning him after backing him so much this summer. Unfortunately you dont have to be Nostradamus to predict therer will be further humiliations before the board are forced to act.

I didnt want the board to sack him on Tuesday, I wanted him to resign in disgrace. £420 for a 22 hour day with Rangers Travel Club to be rewarded by the most gutless performance anybody there has ever seen, or will ever hope to see.

I will always be there to back the team home, away and in Europe, but I feel I can write in here amongst my fellow bears what I feel in my heart about the current situation without being branded negative or not wanting us to do well. I have been walking about totally depressed since I got back. Many tims that I discuss football with and would normally be giving me stick if we lost to Motherwell or Inverness didnt even slag me about this as they knew this was worse, much worse than anything they could ever do or say.

That tells you everything about just how bad this was.

Pedro should not have seen another sunrise as Rangers manager. Perhaps his agent can arrange the pay-off from the 10+ commissions he has "earned" from our club since April.

    superb post

    and admirable restraint

    the guy's a fucking dud.

  5. From the games past be seen him manage so far, I don't see anything that suggests we sit in and hit on the break. Do you?

As for one up front, this is a myth. 4-2-3-1 is the most popular structure for a reason. It means teams can transition to 4-5-1 when required, but go directly to 3-4-3 when attacking. So, in actual fact we have 3 up front, with the number 10 (Nico) following up.

The danger is that we start to criticise the formation after a defeat or poor performance. The formation is relatively insignificant. It's the transitions, defensive line, width, ball speed, and movement that's the really important defining factor, but the pundits don't talk about that because they don't understand it. It's why we are so obsessed with formations. It's an attempt t dumb down the game.

We lost the other night, and we lost because we had no width in the first half. Miller wanted to cut inside always and that meant that Wallace was ineffective on the overlap. Although he changed that in the second half, we did not move the ball quickly enough, and we achieved only 3 switches of play. Rossiter did not play the ball quickly enough forward so it meant that Progres could maintain a high line. We had too many tactical issues but I saw it more that the players didn't perform.

I'm sure PC could see this too and I'd expect him to fix it. I'm gutted we are out of Europe, but I don't feel the depths of despair that many on here do.

    it is 1 up front

and other players out of position in the attacking midfield positions, miller isn't an attacking midfielder in any way shape or form

kranjcar is done, completely shot he plays for 20 minutes and grinds to a halt

we don't have wingers so are trying to rely on tavernier and wallace who are woeful

    everything is wrong

    the recruitment

    the formation

    the application and the organisation

if you aren't apopletic with rage at what occurred the other night you never will be

  6. Must read article from Dougie Wright:

    [tweet]882971163152068610[/tweet]

    great piece

Given that Niederkorn were playing with a 5 man midfield, this left Rangers seriously short of numbers in the middle of the park.

this is a problem that has been going on since WS left and proves these managers don't have a clue what they're doing

we were told PC preferred tactic is to sit in and hit on the break

what good is that to us, a team looking to attack and score goals and win in most matches we play in?

one up front? should never even be contemplated unless at the piggery or away from home in europe

Re: Transfer Speculation Thread ** Check First Post for Updates **

Ready for the abuse to come my way however what I've been told.

Pedro has till hibs/hearts. If we're behind, he's gone. After the sheep and the tims, Europe was his chance at this job.

Also 5 players are definitely coming in for this window.

    Hutton

    Naismith

    Walker

    Mclean

    Dorrans.

I know these names have been mentioned before but he says he's been told these are players that are wanted by the club and WILL be pursued for this window. Pedro has been told to get these players.

I've never posted rumours before and I am NOT ITK.

    Take it however you want.

    absloute bollocks

  8. there were 8 Brits in that squad last night

a player is either good or bad , nationality is irrelevant

    although he's spot on here

“It’s absolutely disgraceful. You can’t be knocked out at this stage

“A club with the stature of Glasgow Rangers going out to a side from Luxembourg, it’s atrocious.”

  9. I would imagine so, yes. Bankruptcy looms for many, I suspect. Perhaps then they will finally stop lauding SDM.

surely the "side letters" will endemnify the players

notice how celtc cleverly let the players take the risk while using their scheme

although there is no way in the world they weren't being adviced by someone at that club.

  10. Ok....so PC gets the sack & McInnes is brought in.

What happens if he loses the 1st game of the season??? Then poor performance in the 2nd, 4rd etc....Everyone will be saying it's the poor players, they don't have the quality....but they'll lay off the manager for a bit, coz that's who the fans wanted. The season progresses, we scrape through a few rounds of the cups, sit 2nd in table, a couple of points above Aberdeen, Ceptic already have a clear lead and we haven't challenged them at all - 1st OF game a comfortable win for them. What then???

I feel there is something bigger at play than just what the manager & players are doing. Over recent years, we have seen several managers & many players come through the doors, yet the same basic problems exist - shoddy defence & poor finishing.

I find it strange that with so many personnel changes, the same issues are inherent in each team....

    nah

sack him and get a decent quality manager brought in

not donald park's or anyone elses pal for that matter

  11. Cant believe what Im waking up to.

Pedro has got it all to do now. His single mindedness and dictating approach of 10 days off in the summer in order to go through has bitten him and he hasn't changed this Warburton team one ounce. I agree with earlier poster that Murty did more.

The problem is we have bought and spent before this disaster happened so any change probably means new signings jump on the first bus out of Ibrox.

Like a few others after the 5-1 defeat by Celtic alarm bells were ringing of stubbornness - it wasn't knee jerk reaction because he had the cup game prior to that and had the chance to address things.

4th best team from Luxembourg who had only scored 1 goal in Europe before - serious questions have to be asked.

The only positive from all of this is there will be more Saturday fixtures rather than playing on Sundays had we reached group stages.

    eh

its pedro doing the jokes tonight

  12. Hang your head in shame mate, you, not PC that is.

we've already heard how there were fans irate enough to be breaking up seats

what was he going to do?

challenge the fans to a square go?

these guys had paid hundreds of pounds to watch that shite

    the guy's a fucking charlatan

  13. Except it wasn't a pre-season game, was it ? I can accept there being rustiness, but a lack of heart and desire ? I wouldn't accept that in a training session. You are continually attempting to defend the indefensible.

For the avoidance of doubt.... blaming it on the season starting in June is a complete pile of nonsense - know why ? Because our opponents season ended on May 21st - so they are no further ahead of us in their preparations.

In such instances one should almost always expect the team with the supposedly superior players to show more class than their opponents.

Lol. "Get these Progres lads to Ibrox in October and we will maul them" - based on what ? What you saw tonight ? Remember.... they aren't any further forward in their preparations than we are.

    didn't realise that

    makes it even worse

  14. I see no reason why BH shouldn't mention it on a Rangers forum, it is Rangers related after all. It will undoubtedly make the press anyway.

Would you go and tell a bunch of knuckle draggers who are busting up a stadium that they are bams whilst they are in the middle of their destruction ?

And yet we point fingers at the Tims for breaking up the likes of Fir Park and Tannadice - these elements within our fanbase really are a bunch of morons who simply don't get how they score own goal after own goal.

it often works if its said in the right way coming from your own
