    He won't be pumping millions in to buy players for winning the top league, or he won't be pumping millions in when CL qualification isn't achieved and small profits become larger losses?

    I don't. It means that something can be maintained at a certain level. That doesn't mean a reliance on a sugar daddy throwing in millions every time things go awry.

    A £4m profit....up £17m from the previous season when CL qualification had not been achieved. That is what isn't sustainable about that.

    If that is indeed true, why are you forever banging on about Dave King investing £30m-£50m? What part of sustainable spending does that fit in to?

    The money that was spent on getting to that level was unsustainable. The amount that would be needed to be on a par these days would dramatically exceed that figure. Some folk will never learn.

    The best days are most certainly in the past and until expectations are lowered, there will be no let up on the misery front. Any talk of a European League returning the club to former glory is pie in the sky. At best, Rangers and Celtic would get invited into the third tier. In these days of global TV coverage, the effect of stadium capacity is growing ever smaller and the real wealth is accumulated by the larger European nations securing ever-increasing TV deals based on population figures. Even these will be dwarfed once the HD technology is there to allow individual clubs to distribute their own matches on internet PPV.

    A cracking read. Even if I don't agree with everything you say, Frankie, your writing is always top notch, and has been for years.

    You would be better putting those questions to The Gunslinger. I am not here to talk up Dave King or his intentions for the future.

    I have no real belief in Dave King per se, but his most important act was coming out in public to highlight the atrocious way the club is being run and making the large rump of the support question themselves over whether they should continue to fund those now in charge. Whether he did this for purely selfish reasons is yet to be seen, whether he will follow up the original attacks with behind the scenes maneuvering is another imponderable. What is not up for debate is that a sizeable number of the support have taken a stance against those who have, for decades, taken their financial support for granted. It happened before in the mid seventies/early eighties and resulted in a man of vision taking the bull by the horns, so all we can hope for is that the current actions can lead to another revolution.

    The total amount who signed up to the scheme is largely immaterial as it was merely a focal point for fans who don't trust those currently running the show. Season ticket sales are down for a variety of reasons and that is the important figure in all of this. If people need a Dave King statement, or one from any other rich individual, to tell them what to do with their cash, then they should just get themselves down to the ticket office today.

    Yeah, Podolski and Sterling have similar ratios. He has the talent, but fails to use it far too often.

    It's not just based on that match, he flatters to deceive more often that not. A wee prima donna who has started to believe the Sky/EPL hype which surrounds him. Glad to see that he's staying at Chelsea next term.
