  2. Rangers' predicament parrallels the major economic discussions prior to and after the recent General Election. How much should be cut back to address our debt (deficit), and over what timescale should we be doing it? No-one denies we need to reduce our debt and, therefore, our reliance on Lloyds. But, similar to the economy which relies on growth for recovery, Rangers need investment in the playing squad to secure future income and to stand any chance of maintaining the success to which we have become accustomed.
  3. Think we sold them. Probably at a big loss too.
  4. One thing that stuck out for me, and I may have missed it, if it was stated elsewhere, was Bain's confirmation that we no longer have a deal with Lloyds to reduce our net debt by £1m per year. Was this not something that Johnson was stating unequiviocally around AGM time?
  5. As a general point, and not specific to Harewood per se, I can understand the need to look for experienced pros given the number of young players we are likely to see starting games regularly this season given the lack of depth in the squad.
  6. Steve Davis was an excellent loan deal but I generally agree. We have had so few loan deals that have been a success you have to question the wisdom of them.
  7. Testing out some material for the next Taxi?
  8. There was a formal stock exchange announcement iirc. Maybe the website needs to be updated.
  9. True. But at least they are players who are proven at domestic level and have some experience of European and international football.
  10. It is the speculate to accumulate method that has got us where we were today with Minty's borrowed millions so you can understand the aversion to risk. Trouble is, the same aversion is now eroding our playing staff more quickly than before. The gamble I see is that we are hoping to bring in players with wages at rates which are cheaper and cheaper, whilst hoping we retain the same/similar domestic success. I worry that we have gone too far this time.
  11. Lawwell showing his wheeler-dealer capabilities again. £1.5m for McManus is spectacular!
  12. I had a fleeting bout of optimism there. But then I remembered we still have no new owner and the bank still have too much of a say over our financial matters. I am never going on holiday again.
  13. And that's only looking at things from a domestic perspective. We can kiss goodbye to making any kind of impact on the Champions League. Jesus, pass me the Valium...
  14. I hope you are right Frankie. I guess the only silver lining could be that we will see more youngsters blooded and given a run in the team. It has been a long time coming, but it will likely lead to an inconsistency of performance if we cannot retain a solid core. It is for that reason that Boyd's goals and Thommo's grit, would have been essential for the season ahead.
  15. Just catching up on Rangers news after returning from 2 weeks sunning myself in Normandy; and what a thoroughly depressing read it has been. Despite my earlier predictions that he might stay, we have lost our top scorer to a Championship club run by Strapon. To make things worse, it now looks like one of our first choice midfielders (the only area of the pitch where we have any kind of strength in depth) is moving on for the same money we paid - even though he is now an international player with Champions League experience.... On top of that, there is still no resolution to Bougherra's or Wilson's situations, so there could be further bad news to come. Way to have the summer optimism kicked out of you...
  16. BBC News now linking Hodgson with the job...
  17. I would argue that the Boyd haters are a minority. Most at least appreciate is domestic prowess, even if it is only limited against Celtic.
  18. I still think there is a chance he will sign a new contract. Maybe I'll be proved wrong, but I reckon it will be a strategically planned 'rabbit out of the hat' to grab a few good news headlines.
  19. This is a cleverly stage-managed puff piece that must surely have been authorised by the Board to get information out in the open which has previously been only partially confirmed, or not denied - King, after all, has fiduciary duties to act in Rangers' best interests. If this is not authorised, it is clearly an attempt by King to distance himself from Murray to ingratiate himself with the fans and set himself up for a potential takeover, or at least, the possibility of a potential takeover. If the latter was the case, that would fly in the face of the overall message of the piece - i.e. praising Walter and Bain for winning the league and for keeping the wolves (Lloyds) at bay. He has also kept quiet for so long,on so many issues, that the timing suggests this is a carefully planned move.
  20. That'll cost them a pretty penny. IIRC, Hodgson signed a multi-million pound long term deal last season at some point.
  21. I thought Gus Mcpherson would have been a shoe-in. Mind you, Gus had his problems with Gilmour, the St Mirren Chairman; and judging by way the Killie Chairman has been acting of late, I wouldn't be surprised if Gus ran a mile!
  22. An encouraging read. He seems finally to be realising what it takes to become a top football player. Not saying he didn't realise it before, but there were too many stories of him going out on the lash with the likes of Shagger McGregor et al, to make me think he was letting the fame and fortune of his early promise, go to his head. Fingers crossed he is a massive player for us next season! A full Scotland cap would not be too far away either!
  23. Considering there's 3 or so players with 0 points, that's not saying much! :fish:
  24. I'd be quite happy to see us cash-in on Bougherra. I reckon he may be pushing the £8-9m bracket and that would give us valuable funds to bring in 2-3 players around the £2-£3m bracket similar to the scenario when we sold Cuellar. I have faith that Walter can find us a new centre-half to repeat the cycel again in a couple of seasons.
  25. Toad blows away the opposition. (Mariokart joke)
