  1. I doubt we will be paying 2 mill for a Brentford player. You could buy the whole club for that.:D

How much did SDM sell our club for ?.....The rest of the story is an ongoing nightmare with a ray of sunlight in the distance.....

  2. Rangers are the 'wee guy' up against the billionaire in this situation, generally the 'big guy' wins and the big guy knows this. I wonder how much kicking us he'll get away with.

It is small comfort but I reckon Fat Boy's ego is hurting and he has been outmanoeuvred, shocked to have lost control and is now throwing the toys out the pram .....

I say hold on to his 5m as long as possible ....

  3. Another development:

Mike Ashley steps down from Newcastle United board as he appoints Steve McClaren as the new head coach

    20:33, 10 JUNE 2015

    BY RECORD SPORT ONLINE

TOON chief steps aside on same day he issues a statement to the Rangers board outlining why he wants his £5m loan paid back immediately.

MIKE ASHLEY has stepped down from the Newcastle United board hours after appointing Steve McClaren as the club's new head coach.

Ashley- who has a 9% shareholding in Rangers and today issued a statement outlining the reasons why he believes the £5m loan he made to the Ibrox club should be paid back, has stepped back from the running of the club he owns after investing £240 million in the Premier League side.

McClaren, has been appointed to the Newcastle board – in a takeover by the club's football brains.

The former England chief will not only be head coach – but also wield power alongside a new ruling committee – minus owner Ashley.

And now McClaren, Chief Scout Graham Carr and club ambassador Bob Moncur have today been appointed to the board, alongside MD Lee Charnley.

Ashley steps aside along with Finance Director John Irving who has got a new job.

Newcastle is the only club who have their head coach on the board – but the hierarchy reckons it is the best way to deliver success.

Watch the Daily Record Football Show as Keith Jackson and Co. discuss Rangers search for a new manager and Dave King's blueprint for the future..

Charnley said in a statement released by the club: “This is a very positive step forward for the club and I am delighted that Steve, Graham and Bob will join me on the board.

“Graham and Bob’s passion for the club is beyond question and I believe given the collective skills, knowledge and experience, together, we are incredibly strong.

“Whilst, of course, we all have our individual primary duties, there is a huge common desire for the club as a whole to move forward and succeed.”

Charnley, 37, has worked at Newcastle United since 1999 and been on the board since 2008.

I wonder if he is related to Chico Charnley ... I still remember the time that fud challenged Rangers fans to a fight and ran for his life through Maryhill as a samurai sword squad turned up for the duel....

  4. What with the need to be listed......, I thought the long-term sensible approach was a quasi-democratic form of fan ownership.....

Aye some of those venture capitalists, vulture funds and bankers are just what the club needs....

FD/CEO will come in due course.....I quite like the sound of a couple of blokes on 200k max, who were into honesty, added value to the club and pursued fair contracts that were consistent with our size and gave us value....

No bonuses.....they can take home a Sports Direct hoarding if desperate.

The idea that there is money to be made by pension funds / institutional investors in our club is laughable.....there is money to be made by strip and rip hedge funds and dodgy bastards but i think we have tried that bus route ......

Let us be realistic ...buy within our means invest in yputh and the future and see how the European leagues develop in the next ten years...without access to massive tv money we need an alternative, realistic strategy based on a mixture of youth, development and good European bargain scouting.

  5. Without knowing who the manager will be AND who we will be signing there is absolutely no chance of that happening.

You might have total faith in KingCo others like myself want them to prove themselves first and today did hothing whatsoever in that respect unfortunately for me

Bit like the African migrant knocking on the captain of HMS Bulwark's door demanding a council flat in Westminster without having the courtesy to thank the captain for saving his/her life......

What would you rather have Ashley control with onerous contracts and promotion or the current situation ?

  6. I hope people give this the board the time and space they need....I think people are being unrealistic....ffs it is only a week since we lost the play-offs ....appointments need time and as for finances we have run out of revenue streams and re-finamcing initiatives because of the previous boards incompetence/waste/financial mismanagement.

Whoever is appointed manager needs to be backed 100% by the fans... promotion is a must.

  7. A "no brainer"? Really? That reads to me that any other considerations\candidates need not apply. I'd rather we weighed up all candidates and made the best choice given the information at the time. No managerial appointment is ever a "no brainer", even at Real Madrid. It's a hunch and a hope given the information before you. Even then it often goes horribly wrong. Paul Le Guen was the nearest thing to a 'no brainer' I can ever remember at our Club, and the rest is history.

Excellent post .....there is always an element of risk whatever the credentials .....

  8. He had his chance to motivate some highly experienced, highly paid international/ex-internationals in the second tier of a football backwater. It is simply unacceptable that one of the biggest clubs in the world failed to get promotion given the vast financial advantages we have.

It should have been a cake walk. The previous board and McCoist are largely to blame but McCall also had his chance and failed.

If a suitable replacement can be found I would replace him. We can ill afford to not be promoted again.

In the six play off games was McCall's team a team that inspired confidence, played positively, out-played their opponents with tactics and effort and merited promotion ?

  9. Another year of the club suffering more indignity, less exposure and finance...

Must appoint the correct manager that is willing to stamp his authority on any unruly player....

I would go for a proven manager who has a track record of promotion success on 1-2 year contract. I doubt very much we will be able to get the top class candidate for long-term development/Europe until we are back at the top.

  10. I speak only for myself when I say I have never liked him as a player. Let's not kid ourselves on that he stayed out of loyalty to the club, he couldn't get another club to take him on the £15Kpw outrageous wages we were paying him. He is an imposter to me as I have never believed he is Rangers class, and believe me I know that term itself has been completely downgraded in the last few years, and no matter how low we set the bar for "Rangers class" Jig will be well below it.

Im delighted that he will be absent from the side for at least the next few games, and content that his failed tenure as Rangers player and Captain is almost at an end.

While I have no intention in a race to the bottom, I would like to hear your opinion on the worst player to have captained us if it is not him. The only player with anywhere near as poor technical ability who was captain in my 30 years of going to games was Ricksen IMO.

I will name a worse captain .... Paterson....
