  1. Request denied Neither did the rest of the team, tbf.
  2. As a sincere skeptic of his ability, I'll grab it with both of his hands too...
  3. Then you are hereby banned from Gersnet Couldn't disagree more there - I think in many games in the past 2 months he's been doing the work of 2 players, when either Davis or Thomson went hiding. I'm afraid your opinion carries a custodial sentence. His displays are one of the main reasons for our excellent recent run. I've decided to increase your sentence to death. Do you have any last requests
  4. If Walter Smith shifts Steven Davis out to the right wing I will throw a very large rotten egg at him.
  5. Fair points, but they don't address his years in the national wilderness while still gaining premium exposure plying his trade for Portsmouth and Spurs. tbh, they actually kinda do - Pedro Mendes is not a very good player he's not good enough to play for his country over the options they have in there. The guy has 4 feeble caps, and at his age, he's extremely unlikely to get into Quieroz' thoughts. I suppose his caps did come when he did play back in his homeland, so maybe he truly believes playing for one of Portugal's big 3 will give him the best chance of being on that flight to SA. That said, he wasn't on the plane to Germany in 2006 despite playing for Spurs/Portsmouth at the time.
  6. For a player who is the target of much abuse and has never been close to a fans' favourite, McCulloch has been excellent this year and deserves a lot of credit for adapting to the midfield position so well.
  7. Alistair Johston is just keeping us barely afloat till we get new owners. Instead of the hooha when he was appointed where we thought it was a new dawn for the club, the reality is he's just another McClelland.
  8. True, but methinks you've mixed them up
  9. Wasn't too keen on that quote - seems a little insulting to us tbh. As for the comments about him having a better chance of the world cup, well he was in the national team wilderness while playing for Portsmouth and Spurs, it was him being at Ibrox which gave him the call up. So if he struggled to be capped while in England, where plenty Portuguese players thrive and get picked for their country, what makes him think he stands a better chance in his homeland?
  10. Unlike Sporting's interest in Mendes, and Sochaux, Birmingham and Brough's interest in Boyd, Villa's supposed link is unsubstantiated.
  11. Way I heard it the deal fell through because of his wage demands. The PL comparison I think is unfair on both players - I think PL was a talented striker who finally got played as one, and that drew in fans' ire claiming he was doing it for a contract. Boyd's current superb form also comes at a similar time, the fact being that he's in the form of his life. I don't think he's enigneering a move away, but I think any footballer who is near the end of their deal and whose livelihoods and futures depend on employment would only naturally put in even harder work when it's more pertinent to do so. It's like being in the shop window at a world cup - it's your living, and you're going to do the best you can with that exposure to get as good a deal from whoever as you can. Problem is most fans can only see the jersey the player is playing in and not the reality of the footballer and their own needs and wants.
  12. I have to say Fletcher's stats this season (9 goals in all competitions) are absolutely excellent for a young player in his debut season in the biggest league in the world for a 'relatively' struggling side. What makes you so sure he's clearly inferior to Boyd and therefore worth less? This is not me dissing Boyd, but Fletcher is proving himself, while Boyd is yet to. Let's compare absolute apples with applies here. Can't agree there - it's conjecture and you know it. You have no idea how Boyd is viewed by Premiership managers, and as much as we Rangers fans rate him, the fact that he's only been linked to one EPL team who wanted him while they were a championship side suggests you're speaking innaccurately on their behalves.
  13. There is no way Boyd's worth anything near 8M. The 5 players we've sold in the past decade or so of that sum are GVB, Barry Ferguson, Cuellar, Boumsong, and Hutton - and Boyd just isn't as good as any of them. He is, if we're lucky, a 4M striker at tops. If we get offered anything in that region we'll accept it. And we did in January.
  14. He's done a lot to pour cold water on that one this season. And the reason is he's worked harder and played at a higher tempo, and it's paid off. He's been scoring against everyone.
  15. Ahhh, the old Pentiums. I had a P1 166 MMX, which got upgraded to a P2 350. I remember them days
  16. They're still here, they're just giving credit to him for his current form. He was one of our worst players at the weekend.
  17. You don't subscribe to this 'mhedia' crap do you?
  18. Walter Smith told Thomas Buffel he'd get a chance. I wouldn't really take Smith's word about future personnel choices with any gravity.
  19. Exactly my argument when defending Lafferty. Yet why is it Fleck gets more leeway and Lafferty's brandished an expensive failure? However, directly addressing your point, and it just seems odd to me that this sparkling youngster who's been hyped as the second coming, even slightly out of position, has made so little impact. He hasn't even given sign of potential imo. And in almost 2 years that seems a bit odd. However, maybe it's best that he doesn't - because Aaron showed that a creative young player with an eye for goal and pace to burn is unwelcome at Ibrox. That's probably why Buffel was given his marching orders too.
  20. Oddly Sky have this in their 'Serie A' news section...
  21. It's all well and good telling us what we're supposedly missing in Fleck, but when he has played he's not lived up to any sort of promise - he's looked like an enthusiastic youngster with reasonable composure and energy but not a total array of skill or talent. He just hasn't made much impact in almost 2 seasons in the first team. Compare that to, as I say, Wilson playing in a much harder and more demanding position yet fitting to the team like a glove and making Bougherra's absence far less of a loss in certain games. If Fleck is this bright young thing, why hasn't he shone like Wilson has, in far far less time?
  22. True, but they can pay him more and the Championship is a superior league to the SPL. There's also the question of our finances - if a significant bid comes in, he may do an Amo and join them for our benefit, with a little persuasion from Senor Johnston. I have no doubt he is a dyed-in-the-wool bear, and no traitor. But joining a former Celtic manager as opposed to Eck? Regardless, if we still have his services come the end of the window, it will be an achievement and a half.
  23. My criticism of him began in the October of '08 (after a purple patch of July/August/September where he probably played the best football of his entire career) when his Hollywood passes rarely delivered, he didn't playmake, and generally didn't work either. I felt like the only fan who didn't rate him, and I got some hefty abuse for my view. Where were ye back then eh?!
  24. Fine, that's fair enough, but by that logic then neither is 6 games enough to slag off the rest of the team who played in the CL in its entirety. Not that I am saying you did, but few didn't. Davis is a better craftsman than Mendes. You know why Mendes played the CL final with Porto - because they needed a DM to block Monaco's craft. Where he gets this reputation for being a playmaker from is beyond me.
  25. Apologies if I missed this being posted elsewhere. Boyd is WGS #1 target apparently.
