Didn't Goncalves say he wouldn't be signing for us. Failed to agree personal terms i.e. we wouldn't meet his no doubt exhorbitant salary demands.

Which would be a pity as he's obviously the No. 1 target. Thinking back to Elmander and ending up with Sebo makes you hope we have someone else of similar quality to Jelavic lined up.

I think that must dispell the myth that Jelavic is in the last year of his contract. He has two years to go hence the �£4m fee. We will not get him on a bosman in January.

Goal scorers generally always move for more money then midfielders and defenders. Also, I believe the lad has two years left on his contract and assuming Rapid don't have the financial concerns we do they don't need to sell.

Just a gut feeling? I wouldn't be sad to see Lafferty go. He has suffered from the fee we paid for him and has not and probably will not nail down a first team place. For the life of me I can't think of anyone wanting to buy him.

Utaka can play wide left and has the pace to do well in that position - perhaps a loan deal would be more financially realistic but I reckon Pompey would rather get him off the wage bill completely.

I hope he gets the chance as a number 10 and not stuck out wide. If we can secure a player like Jelavic (increasingly unlikely) then I'd love to see Fleck playing just behind him.

I think Jelavic could be the perfect striker for a 4-5-1 (4-3-3) formation. If we are serious and we want to play him in the CL then we will need to move quickly. He's the type of player we could potentially make a profit on as well.

If he's a good player then quite frankly I don't give a hoot whether he's eligible for the CL. We need a team capable of winning the league and qualifying for next seasons CL. The CL to us nowadays is nothing more than a source of income and I'd be content to see Miller and Lafferty playing midweek with this fella kept fit for the SPL. Having said all that it seems we've gone in with an offer well below their valuation so I'd be surprised if this was a goer - unless we do a Sebo and slowly increase our offer to what they actually want. Finally, how accurate is the report that because he's played a Europa League qualifier he's ineligible for the CL - different competitions I thought.

Fair play to Bain. At least he's speaking which is more than can be said for our chairman or majority shareholder. I also take from Bains words that any sales will also generate funds to sign players and not all funds received are going to the debt. Basically players have been identified (Koren & Goncalves possibly) and we're waiting on the players decisions. The third potential signing may actually cost a transfer fee?

Thanks Mate. So that's a new thread predicting the deal will be announced this week to replace last weeks thread saying it would be done last week. I hereby forecast we'll have another thread next week predicting a new timescale.
