Does it matter what it's called?

It was merely an observation that what you were describing were some of the main features of the ESL, i.e. protectionism in a closed shop. So in effect, with a minor adjustment each year for the odd new participant, the conditions of the ESL are already met, except those clubs wanting an even bigger slice of the pie.

The CL is increasingly just a closed circulation of the same +/-20 core clubs sharing and exchanging the same pool of managers and 500 or so players, with occasional additions to replace those who leave to spend their millions away from the cameras. The chances of Rangers ever breaking back into that elite clubs seem more and more remote.

    That's the ESL isn't it?

Gerrard will move on be it Newcastle, or some other team somewhere down the line.

I'm sure our Director of Football will not only be looking at players to improve our team but also managers and backroom staff.

However, with no disrespect to SG and his staff, I'm sure Newcastle and their fans will be looking for a manager with a proven record. They are on course to be relegated, wonder what Big Sam is up to?

He and Alan Pardew will be 1 and 2 at Newcastle with Lennon as Director of Football :)

I remember similar expressions of denial about smoking and cancer in the 60s and 70s. Despite quite clear evidence, there was always a large section of the smoking community bleating about the credibility of "evidence" while studiously turning a blind eye to it.

To be clear, I haven't seen data to support a causal relationship between heading a ball and dementia. That doesn't mean it doesn't exist, it just means I'm not in possession of it if it does. All I have said is that if it does exist then there should be no digging in of heels to support a state of denial in those who can't embrace change.

And do we seriously think the researchers are incapable of factoring in different ball design, amount of heading, etc?

I dont think we know as they haven't shared their work to any degree.

I would be amazed if they can actually link it tbh, as they will also have to consider what each of these ex players did after finishing football, with many ending their careers much earlier than todays players.

With training methods changing i doubt todays players even do heading practice anymore and how do thy compare a professional career of say 10-15 years from an amateur footballer who may have played 15 - 20 years with heading the ball still virtually the same technique.

I feel they will try to make the science fit the required answer and until we see some evidence it should be treated with some healthy sceptism.

This isn't something to be flippant about and if the evidence is compelling then there should be no hesitation to remove heading from the game.

Well lets see the evidence. It has been closely guarded as despite some high profile cases i doubt it shows cases in octagenarian footballers being higher than the general public.

Also, they need to prove that modern balls cause the same alleged issues that the older balls octagenerian footballers would have been playing with cause.

If proved then boxing would certainly be banned.

It is true.  BT cover both matches, with the pundits in the Scottish ground - they'll do it from the Piggery next.

Dornan is kicking off about this already (does he not have a job to do?).

So from the Piggery will they use two ex Gers players?

  7. Just heard on Talksport that Lennon and Sutton were refused entry last night as Rangers could not guarantee the pairs safety.

Has anyone else heard if that is true, and if so why would BT Sport want either of them to work on a Rangers match?

Seems a bizarre set of circumstances and possibly done to embarrass the club?

Made the mistake of listening to Cosgrove's podcast. Everything you'd expect. How great he is and how bad Rangers, unionism, the right, the famine song are.

Stewart done his usual mental gymnastics to excuse Godley and the Daily Record bigots. Not so much the H&H lads. Cosgrove has choose his useful idiot wisely.

Why would Stewart not discuss the racial angle in Godley's tweets? Seems an important omission. Only the online spats with "Rangers trolls" count apparently.

What else should we expect from that swivel eyed plank.

If that were the final table would that mean the other mob would miss out on Euro qualifying?

Not sure, but it would be great if so, although i would miss the fun of them losing to some teams we have never heard of!!

I sometimes wonder if some supporters sit and squirm when they hear certain songs at Ibrox.

After Hillsborough, the authorities decided to change their approach to football.  Before that, it was something to be frowned upon - a pastime for the uncouth masses.  After that, it has been viewed as a money making opportunity and they've tried to drive the unsavoury aspects away, which has been largely successful in the English top division.

I get that people want a safe environment to watch the football but I had no idea so many football fans were such sensitive souls.  I feel embarrassed for any grown man who is genuinely upset about a song sung by football fans - you must've had an easy ride if that's the sort of thing that bothers you.

It's the middle class move into football. No standing, no swearing, no songs they dont approve of, prices rising to keep out the masses, CCTV and stewards everywhere to make sure they feel safe, welcome to PL football.
