  1. That should apply to ALL players. A match-winner doesn't have to be a piece of sublime skill etc - it can just as easily be a simple pass, or a well timed cross. As I said, If the team start to rely on a single player, they then become lost without them. ALL players should be encouraged to look for Match-winning balls/performances.

Ultimately every single players job is to win the match!!!!

Yes every player should be but that's ok in theory, look at last season nobody stepped up to the plate, it's something we lack as we stand at the moment.

  2. I totally disagree....If you have that ONE player, the rest of the team begin to rely on him. That's what happened with Naismith. It's great when said payer is on form, but EVERYTHING falls apart if they are off form or injured.

We need players who function as a TEAM...we need backup/fringe players who function as a TEAM - no single point of failure.

I agree with the team thing but I also feel within that system you can have matchwinners and sometimes there are moments when that one player makes the difference.

  3. I would love us to get someone who can win a game on his own, we need that, anyone got any ideas? Naismith possibly, or this big name forward who is supposed to be coming.

A maverick type player, a no 10 attacking mid or a winger, someone with that x factor who can turn a game with a piece of magic. we seem solid enough in midfield but we need a wizard, like Krajncar, only maybe more mobile and more likely to bang in goals when you need them.

  4. Re the signing of Alfredo Moreles, his agent has said that the player's passport has been sent to the British Embassy in Helsinki as this is the procedure with non EU playerss if they are to be drawn against a British team in Europa League,(Didn't realise this, typical awkward Britain) he requires the passport to enable him to apply for the work permit so he can be registered for the 18th June for the Europa League. Looks like a sensational striker and I am delighted he is coming, surely all can be sorted, we need him for Europa League although I would just love to get him regardless.

  5. Alan Brazil: Aberdeen’s clear-out could hand second place next season to Rangers.

IS Pedro Caixinha the right man to rebuild Rangers?

    I won’t lie – I don’t think he is.

Seven days ago, in this very column, I told Gers fans to forget about overhauling Celtic next season.I said they’d be doing well to catch Aberdeen.

That should still be their objective as far as I’m concerned.

But events in the past week have made me think reeling in the Dons is a task that Rangers can accomplish.

It’s not so much the players that have signed up at Ibrox, though Ryan Jack is part of the reason for my change of heart.

It’s more the fact that Aberdeen are shedding stars at an alarming rate.

The out-of-contract Niall McGinn has been the headliner up to now, with Gers capture Jack coming in a close second.

Despite his near ever-present status at the back, Ash Taylor’s departure has been shrugged off, along with that of Peter Pawlett.

But if star man Jonny Hayes is snapped up by Celtic, there will be no hiding from the scale of the rebuilding job required at Pittodrie.

    Then there’s Derek McInnes.

Del has done an absolutely magnificent job since parking his backside in the Aberdeen hot-seat four years ago.

    That’s why he’s on Sunderland’s radar.

But if he leaves this summer on top of the players already lost – or about to be – the Dons will be very badly damaged.

I’m not saying the situation would be irreparable – but it would transform a finely-tuned machine into a fixer-upper.

    That’s a real shame.

It’s also symptomatic of Scottish football’s biggest problem – a lack of cash.

Aberdeen have become Celtic’s closest challengers over the last few seasons, and they’ve done it through sheer hard work.

In an ideal world, this summer would be spent building a team even better equipped to take on the Bhoys.

The Dons should be keeping their best players, adding more quality, steeling themselves for European progress, a shot at cup glory, and maybe even a title tilt.

Instead, they are in danger of being dismantled.

You can’t blame guys like McGinn and Hayes for wanting to move on.

At their age – 29 in both cases – this could be their last shot at picking up a big contract.

You can’t blame Derek McInnes for considering Sunderland, either.

Yes, they’ve been relegated into the Championship, but they claimed almost £100-million in prize money at the same time.

McInnes would double his own money – at least – whilst fronting a club with ambitions to bounce straight back to the Premier League.

It’s a step up the ladder for a guy who has probably climbed as high as he can with Aberdeen.

If I were an Aberdeen fan, I’d be gutted at the prospect of my team having its bones picked clean this summer.

Should it go that way, I reckon Rangers will be able to target second place with confidence.

But they still won’t be anywhere near Celtic – and that should be the real measure of progress at Ibrox.

    https://www.sundaypost.com/fp/dons-clear-out-could-hand-second-to-gers/

Not sure we won't be anywhere near Celtic, Aberdeen are breaking up, this happens to teams after a few years of relative success and solidity, especially teams like Aberdeen who have consistently been 2nd, we should definitely be 2nd.

  6. Arguably the best Rangers sides of all time drank like fish?????

It's really like you guys are desperate for us to fail and want to be able to go "told you so" more than you want success or worse.

The guy hasn't even landed in the country yet and you are talking like you are 100% correct that he will fail and it's a bad signing????

Must be amazing to be able to correctly decipher a players ability without needing to see a single bit of evidence of his ability to play the game??

Don't get all this the guy seems like a player.

  7. I asked this exact question to an Aberdeen supporting friend and his comment was for them he is fairly easily replaceable.... so that doesn't bode well. Also mentioned he is always behind the play.

Isn't he meant to be in his position?

  8. I think he likes to get in about it, don't know much about him tbh, other than seeing him play against rangers this season. can play as a RB or DM, think he can also drop in at center back if need be.

You just need to look at media outlets and social media to see how livid some of the Aberdeen fans are about this, I don't think they would be this up in arms if he wasn't a decent player, plus he is their captain.

I follow a guy on twitter called theSPFLradar, he does a lot of analysis on players, from memory I think Jack rates quite highly on interceptions and and defensive duels, I don't think he is going to be the prettiest player, I think he will be used to go and win the ball in midfield when we lose possession.

    Good. Exactly what we need.

  9. That might be what you see clearly Pete. What I see clearly is a man who has the passion and desire that we've not had for some time. He hasn't proven anything yet, but deserves the time to do so. What he has done though is blooded some youngsters, and started the process of clearing out those that are not up to standard. What else can he do? I'm honestly embarrassed by our support sometimes. We've got so many "experts" in football opining on someone who has only been in charge a short time. I'd like to think we are better than that. With "supporters" like ours, the guy doesn't need enemies.

I think to a large degree Pedro has been experimenting, he came into a not very envied position and had to work with what he had, Europe was more or less secured anyway and he has poked about with the team for a bit, it's a case of give him the tools and the time and I reckon as he likes tinkering, with the right tools he will mould something good.

  10. Murty did it against Celtic at Parkhead and also dominated Hearts and Aberdeen at Ibrox. He had the same journeymen.

That was the best Celtic have ever played at Ibrox, I have never seen anything like that from them before, it was all teamwork, everyone running off each other, knowing where everyone was. Don't want it to sound like a Celtic love in, of course not but to be fair the Murty Old Firm game we got in their faces but they had probably one of their worst games.

That was probably at least partly down to us being more aggressive, but they had an off day.

Warburton was in charge of the home games v Hearts and Aberdeen, but I see your point.

  11. The guy is hardly through the doors and is being slaughtered from every angle. Compare it to Cathro, who is fairing far worse in his job, and who even has an ally in Sutton ffs (had to laugh at him of all people saying PC has verbal diarrhoea). I've never seen a manager be attacked so much so quickly. Its disgusting.

I would like to see our fans who don't have confidence in him contain their criticism with some recognition of the fact that he's not just Pedro the manager - he's OUR Pedro. Don't give the vultures scraps to feed on. We don't have a club who will stand up for the fight and defend us. But we sure as hell have a manager who will fight any detractors until the bitter end. He has a track record of creating a siege mentality (he did it at Santos Laguna and they ended up winning the Mexican league which is not to be scoffed at). Maybe a siege mentality is what we need, because we are NEVER going to win any 'friends' - we are hated with a passion. He is going to try and bring players with a physical presence, as Portuguese managers like to do these days, which I'm all for. He will bring fighters that he can trust and I believe we will not see our side intimidated or pushed around again. He will tell our players its us against the world and he will believe it. He will instill the passion on and of the park. He may or may not get it right, but he deserves our support. If he is ready to defend all things Rangers does he not deserve our support? He sure as hell aint getting it from the club. Get intae them!!!

Excellent post, I couldn't agree more, let's get behind him I have a feeling we may make some people eat their words next season.

  12. PC seems to be pouring a bit of scorn on the story by saying “Bruno Alves is a great player. I would like to sign him, Ronaldo and Messi.”

That's Pedro though, he's the type who won't confirm anything until a deal is done.

  13. How do you know who we are going to pick up?

Naismith had his chance he walked away

And signing 30 year olds is bad buisness

No matter how good they are

We should be looking towards younger guys with sell on fees after scopping them up for nought

He's got a good 3 years in him and sell on value is all very well if you have a proven player, we have been burned with the likes of Crooks, Windass and Dodoo all here so we can attain sell on value down the line. Was only generalising we may well get some quality players but what I meant was you need to grab guys like Naismith when you can.

  14. Wonder how many would want him back, I would simply because he's a quality player (let's move on from that...) we need to move in the right direction with the right players and also a player who has done and I am sure would do damage to Celtic which at this moment in time is a bonus we must take into consideration. If it can be done then I hope it gets done as we aren't going to pick up many quality players. He is a bit of a moaning faced git but I see this as a positive also as that can be a good thing in a player and he has some grit about him also.

  15. Well, the club could write to Aberdeen FC and tell them a few words about songs referring to "dancing on dead people" and "Huns going home" is not welcome at Ibrox and they should tell that their support. If it happens again, the allocation will be cut.

That said, "we" like to tell the Yahoos that one of their adored terrorists is "deid" too ...

Yes but in fairness mocking a dead terrorist ain't in the same league as the Ibrox disaster.
