  1. Numan, by a mile. The guy was pure class and up there with Gazza, Laudrup and Cooper as the greatest players I've ever seen in a Rangers strip.
  2. He chose to sign an international striker with a good scoring record in Scotland. Seemed a decent enough move at the time, but it hasn't worked out. Such is life.
  3. Keys quits now http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,12040_6703355,00.html
  4. Ah, but we tapped into the lucrative Lithuanian market.
  5. Indeed tehy can, but can they offer the Champions League as a shop window? Can they offer the chance of winning trophies? As I said, we won't get every target, but if we're not in the game, then we won't get any. And anyway, look at our scouting network in Scotland - Hamilton have sold Brian Easton, James McCarthy and James McCarthur to the EPL for relatively big money in the last 18 months or so - we punted Charlie Adam for buttons, so we're missing out here as well.
  6. What gems????? There's a whole big wide world out there, filled with players who would love to move to Scotland on their way to the riches of the EPL, La Liga, Serie A etc. Set up the scouting network, bring in 3 players a year through it, sell 2 on for a, say £5 million profit and tehn we can build a team. Not a scrape-together team made up by journeymen and pensioners, but a proper comeptitive team. Be smart when you sell these players on, insist on clauses for percentages of future transfers and the likes. Harking back to Wigan, they made around £20 million profit on the transfer fees of both Palacios and Valencia - although after further research, Valencia was signed from a Spanish club - but the theory still stands.
  7. It's the whole speculate to accumulate thing. Identify young players abroad, bring them in, they contribute and then move on. Gattuso and van Bronckhorst are both examples of this, but we should be doing this far more often. I'm, not saying we'll get every young protege out there, but we should at least be trying.
  8. I would hardly class Wigan as Europes elite. I'm not talking about swooping in and picking up Hernandez for £14 million, but what profit did they make on selling Valencia and Palacios? A pretty penny and they will again when Rodallega and Figueroa move on.
  9. Ignoring much of what has gone before, it has to be Stevens. Would probably have been Hutton had he stuck around and continued to develop. Porrini did well, but I always think of him as a centre half at right back, kinda like Papac. Now left back, there's a question? Davie Robertson, Artur Numan, Stuart Munro? Numan is up there with Copper, Laudrup and Gazza for me - sensational player. Oh, and as right backs go, Stephen Wright would've been a good player for us had it not been for injury.
  10. I think, as someone mentioned, they're only contenders because the OF are mince. But because both Rangers and Celtic are poor if they keep winning games, they're not going to be far away. Wouldn't be surprised to see the OF split come the end of the season.
  11. 4-0, we'll pull ourselves together for this.
  12. The scouting system at Ibrox/Murray Park is something that consistently drives me insane. You see teams like Wigan bringing in players like Figueroa, Valencia, Palacios and Rodallega from the central American market then selling them on for a huge profit. Why don't we have people out there? Places like Mexico, Uruguay, Paraguay - think back to a few years back, Dundee brought in Caballero, Speroni and Juan Sara from South America. We have to get a scouting network out there, making contacts, building relationships with managers, agents, club owners. Think of PSV - they brought both Romario and Ronaldo to Europe, we have to be tapping into these markets. We've got the tradition, the history of success, the stadium, the training facilities yet we're stuck with Grampa Weir at centre half.
  13. I think he's shown enough to prove he can contribute and, if it's a loan that isn't costing much, he's definitely worth keeping around. He is the type that, whilst he does go missing, can turn one point into three at least once or twice a season and we really don't have many who can do that, and those are the margins with which titles are won.
  14. Didn't we have this years ago or is my old mind playing tricks?
  15. There is a severe lack of volunteers here. I would've thought with everyone's vast knowledge on the beautiful game, they would be champing at the bit :-) I'll take the St Johnstone game at the end of Feb.
  16. You don't ask, you don't get. He looks a class player, but I concede, it's highly unlikely we'll see him here.
  17. Apparently Vela at Arsenal is available for loan.
  18. Aye, it's not a proper transfer window without a Fowler rumour. When does Alan Smith sign?
  19. Although at Pete's age, he'll probably need to pop a wee blue pill to get it up tonight
  20. Not been about much gents, but I'll get the Hearts preview knocked up tomorrow evening, finish work at 9, so sometime after that, unless you want it up tonight?
  21. He's been honkin' this season. I hope this unoffial winter break gives him a chance to recharge and come back with a decent second half of the season.
  22. Ronald de Boer and Barry Ferguson, but they were only really for the one season.
  23. Nah, I'm not even gonna bother saying it.
  24. haven't really got the time to do one this month, but stick me in for one in January, jusyt whatever's availabkle :-)
