  1. There is no police objection to 3.00 on a Saturday. The reason we haven’t played them at that time since 1998 (except Scottish Cup finals) is because every single one has been live on the telly, and live TV games are not allowed to be shown between 3 & 5 on a Sat due to UK wide football authorities banning it.
  2. I had the original orange strip. In fact still do. Society is more polarised about everything these days. Nobody else seems to keep quiet when it comes to their cultural identity, so why should we? I mean Liverpool have an orange away strip, the republic of Ireland even had one ffs! Both were connected to the orange order/king William as well, indirectly.. i hope this one is less ‘glow in the dark’ as the 2003 one. I preferred the 93/94 orange and navy stripes one.
  3. You’re not wrong there - Hibs brought a certain Andy Goram to Scotland for £500,000. In 1988! 30 years later Hibs wouldn’t spend that on a forward, let alone a keeper. Inflation has left Scottish football behind. Dunfermline paid not far off that for Istvan Koszma! Maybe it’s time to go back to that. The league was better then. On the other hand though, Rangers could outbid most of the English premier league then, so attracted better players then.
  4. Sky might be bothered. They recently got the EPL rules changed so that away fans are visible at pitch level (eg Newcastle will have to move their away fans) but screw them. When did Sky ever do us a favour? I don’t like the timing of this, but it should have been done when we got promoted back to the SPL. Of course this move will cost the club money, so could be viewed as petty, but so what. We can’t continue to allow that sort of behaviour by the likes of Leigh Griffiths & the green brigade in our own home. Might give us a competitive advantage at Ibrox, while we couldn’t get much worse at parkhead anyway. As for our travelling fans, maybe make some more cash from a beam back at Ibrox? Some reservations however. Ticket office staff will have their hands full now. I have 3 season tickets in the BR. One with Celtic, one adult without & one child. I wouldn’t take my 4 year old to a Celtic game, and my old man wouldn’t pay an extra £100 for his season ticket! So it is wrong to assume all ticket holders in the Broomloan want to see (or pay extra) for these games. It is £58 for a kids ST (only available in BR family section) hopefully they won’t be taking that offer away. But it costs that much for a single seat for a Celtic game! I can’t see either side selling out the home tickets for £60 a seat now to be honest, but we’ll see..
  5. I’m more disappointed in Whittaker tbh. MoH was born one of them, but Whittaker played for us in a European final ffs! Mind you, so did Alfie Conn..
  6. This will be the first real test for Steven Gerrard. Nobody would blink an eyelid if a Liverpool player was supporting Everton in a Cup final against another team, and vice versa. I suspect Gerrard thinks the rivalry is the same up here, but it clearly isn’t. However no employment tribunal would see it as gross misconduct, so we can’t sack him in reality. But who would buy him? I can’t get too upset at this though. Does nobody remember Coisty and Durrant in the Rangers end when we won the league against st. Johnstone, when they were both Kilmarnock players at the time? The saddest thing about about this is that nobody recognised him, and he is obviously used to nobody recognising him. I didn’t recognise him in the photo myself. Can you imagine Mo Johnston, or even Neil McCann doing this? No, but if they had even tried the Tim’s would have lynched them, or the cops would have stopped them going in. But MoH could have a season ticket there and nobody would recognise him. Or even worse, if they did but don’t even see him as a threat!
  7. I know the league was better then, though I’m not convinced Lou Macari and Liam Brady’s teams were any better than us now. But we had a much better standard of players than Celtic have now. We were signing genuine top players from England, Germany, France, Denmark, Sweden. We outbid Chelsea for Gazza ffs! At the end of the day they have won 2 trebles with a squad of EPL rejects and some promising youngsters. Maybe that was the difference, we never played our youngsters. Though we had some, eg John Spencer who went on to star for Chelsea in the EPL.
  8. Seems an odd question, however comparing our team from the 90s dominance to Brenda Rogers team dominating today. We had the same financial advantage over the rest of the league that they do now, and we won the league in a canter every year as they are doing these days. And we got embarrassed in Europe every season except one, while Rogers hasn’t even had a good season in Europe yet. But our record in the Cups from 94-98 was a real let down. After blowing the double treble against a Dundee Utd side who had been fighting relegation all season in 94, we then got knocked out of Cups by Falkirk, Hearts, Aberdeen, United again, Hearts again, and Celtic once. We never came close to going a season unbeaten. But more importantly, we never beat Celtic by more than 2 goals in a game. We let them off the hook repeatedly. It wasn’t an uncommon opinion at the time either, than a team with Gazza & Laudrup should’ve been running up cricket scores against the likes of John Hughes and Paul Byrne. Did we let them off to prevent riots or something? Was our players’ booze culture to blame? Or was it just tougher in the days before fouling was banned? I just wish we had done to them what they are doing to us now. Any thoughts?

    A new stadium

Charles Green should have done this when we raised £22million from that share issue in Division 3. No way should we build a new stadium, Arsenal have been selling their best players and won nothing since they built the Emirates, and if they couldn’t afford it then we sure as heck wouldn’t either. Ideally we could add a tier to the Govan, like Liverpool have done with Anfield, and that only took then 6 months. But I don’t know if Ibrox is the same.

    Season Over

July 12th? I had booked my holidays for the end of June, same as last year!! Wildly optimistic, but we’d have a better chance against the likes of Burnley, Sevilla etc if we got them early. Sevilla in particular have about 10 players in the World Cup who couldn’t play in the early rounds!
  11. I was referring to when he put Cummings on for Holt. When did Murty ever put Cummings on the park with Morelos, in a big game?
  12. Should be kept on in some capacity at the club next year. The guy has more experience than our last 4 bosses added together! Tonight we ground out a result after a tactical substitution, and again looked better after the half time team talk. The sign of a good manager is that their teams improve after the break. It never happened once under Murty! Even in this clip from tonight you can tell Nicholl is a good motivator & tactician https://rangers.co.uk/news/rangers-tv/video-jimmy-nicholl-reaction-2/ Also consider how often we went on a good run under Murty, then fell apart after one bad result. He was a terrible motivator & tactician. Any team can lose, but the measure of their character is how they bounce back. Of course, Im not saying Jimmy Nic is world class, but I think any decent, experienced boss would have had us about 15 points ahead of where we are this season (though Celtic would’ve won more points if we had put them under that pressure). Problem is though, Steven Gerrard might just turn out to be another Murty or Caixinha. He could be gone by Xmas. Hopefully not, but if that is how it goes then we need an experienced boss waiting in the wings. I’m fairly sure it wouldn’t be Murty again. Jimmy Nicholl should be kept on in some coaching capacity, just in case!
  13. I suppose he is just being honest, but basically accepting Celtic will dominate for the next few years won’t sell season tickets. There is no new money coming in. Posters & threads continuing to insist this based on nothing should be chopped. Stevie G must actually be insane if he thinks he can beat Celtic while spending half their wage budget. Does he actually think he will get the Liverpool top job after finishing 2nd in the SPL 3 years in a row? Nobody south of the border would be impressed by that. Doesnt explain why Paul Murray left though, but worrying that King never even spoke to him or expected his resignation. Or maybe it’s good news, no doubt the next ITK (ie complete fabrication) poster will be claiming he left to join a new takeover bid by Sheik Monsour..
  14. Good luck Steven Gerrard. Some of his words and actions yesterday seemed a bit naive to me, but let’s hope he learns on the job. The fans need to be patient too - rookie managers usually make some high profile mistakes & get some bad results at first. He was talking about Aberdeen & Hibs as our main rivals at first, are the fans going to embrace this realism? Dave King kept mentioning points dropped against other teams, does he think the squad we have should be doing better & does that imply Gerrard won’t have the 25million he probably needs to win the league next season?? Unlike when we appointed Walter Smith, I don’t think Gerrard knows what he’s letting himself in for. He is the first Rangers manager who is younger than me, but he won’t look it by the end of his tenure! However maybe, like Graeme Souness, he has the strength of character & arrogance to handle it anyway. Souness said in 1986 it would take him 3 years to build a title winning side (though he did it 1st time) I would liked to have heard something similar from Gerrard, though I suppose that would be seen as negative talk nowadays. His position should be reviewed every 6 months, and if we’re not at least 2nd then he will be out, and probably Mark Allen too. I just hope he doesn’t end up losing it & re-registering as a player or something! Still, if the fans are patient then this could be a big success, & it can’t get much worse (you would think) anyway, but the first guy Gerrard should be on the phone too is Souness if he is to be a success here!
  15. I’m just putting 2+2 together here. Gerrard must think there is a war chest there. This board have already used property as security. Could they get a loan of say £25million over Ibrox or Murray Park? That sort of cash would be required to get us challenging again, but it’s a big risk so maybe why the 2 directors have walked.
  16. My theory, though complete speculation, is that new investment/cash is coming for Stevie G to spend, but Murray & Scott don’t like where it’s coming from. Could be re-mortgaging the stadium (though I hear no new deeds have been registered so far) or maybe even SDM getting involved again. Can’t see how this makes sense otherwise. Doubt it has anything to do with the new manager, but hopefully he already knows what’s going on because this sort of instability would put you off taking the job otherwise!
  17. I could still see us win the last 3 to guarantee second, right enough. The players are scared of Celtic because they know they aren’t as good as their players. However, they are better than Killie & Aberdeen’s players & can compete with Hibs too. I reckon the players will be relieved the old firm games are over now. Killie game is crucial though.
  18. I won’t be holding my breath for this ‘investment’ either! This board have promised much but never seem to get round to delivering. However, if investment is coming, then appointing a rookie manager is even more crazy..
  19. Silly money?? Did you see that midfield today?? That Cham cost them about 4million, he’s not even their best player. We need to start buying a few £4-5million rated players, not another dozen bang average players!! This will never change until we start buying £4million players, you might not think McGinn fits the bill, but if the board aren’t prepared to give the new manager “silly money” then we’re as well withdrawing from the league!!
  20. I’m holding out hoping that he might want to play under Steven Gerrard, who better to learn from? However I never realised McGinn only has a year left on his contract. He probably will run it down & move to the Tim’s for nothing. Hibs won’t be the same team after he leaves, that’s for sure.
  21. This is what happens when a team of million pound players go up against a team of £4million players. Not one of them can compete, they are all shitebags who know they shouldn’t even be out there, but none of their team-mates should be either. However, a decent manager could still have mounted a damage limitation exercise & instilled some kind of confidence so his players can actually find a team mate with a pass, stop panicking & making bad decisions all over the park. A good manager changed tactics to cover up his teams weaknesses. Murty is not a good manager, not even a half decent first team boss. Steven Gerrard isn’t that much of a risk compared to that. Realistically he can’t be any worse. The only thing he did right today was avoiding the media scum, as Souness always did any time his team lost.
  22. Dunno what you mean, but worth remembering that we were getting doings off of Dundee Utd & Inverness & beat off of Alloa & Queen of the South then. We are better now, albeit miles behind one team. We have a better team than Warburton too, although he was never given as much money as Caixinha & Mark Allen, which is why he left!
  23. I think a realistic comparison is Neil Lennon. Nobody thought he’d make a good manager, too controversial, poor communication skills etc. Yet his players seem to bust a gut for him & his experience at the top level means he will (should) have picked up a few things. Sadly using another Celtic analogy, but when they replaced Tommy Burns with Wim Jansen & Jock Brown after we won 9 in a row it was also a huge gamble. Maybe when you’re that far behind (like we were in 1986) then you have to keep taking gambles until one works out. Either that or accept mediocrity. Wouldn’t be my choice, but now I would feel a bit disappointed if he doesn’t get it..
  24. We spent £10million last summer (albeit on 11 players) so could afford a 5million signing, but not many others. Also, if we offered Hibs the cash, they really aren’t going to hold out if Celtic don’t match the offer. However if we are offering Arfield and McGregor contracts, then it looks like we are going to go down the road of signing dozens of average players again, rather than the 2 or 3 genuine quality players we really need. So best hope he goes down south, because he is going to be the best Scottish midfielder for the next 10 years, I reckon..
