  1. Charlton boss Les Reed has launched a late bid to hijack former Hearts skipper Stephen Pressley's move to Celtic, and put in a £3m joint offer for Hibernian midfielders Kevin Thomson and Scott Brown...Manchester City are planning a swoop for Heerenveen's Brazilian striker Afonso Alves. Alves is a player i would love to see Rangers going for. He is fast, strong and can shoot from outside the box. He is top-scorer in Holland at the moment. I believe he is also only 24.
  2. The first part with Chick young is exellent. Strachen was eating love hearts when CY interviewed him after the game.
  3. KRIS BOYD could hand Rangers a festive filip by returning to the Ibrox strike-force sooner than expected. The prolific striker damaged his ankle in the 1-0 defeat at Falkirk on December 3 after a dreadful tackle from defender Kenny Milne. A scan showed ligament damage and the diagnosis from the Ibrox medical team was that Boyd would be out until the New Year, with the third round Scottish Cup tie at Dunfermline on January 7 his likely target. But Boyd has been getting intensive treatment at Murray Park after missing the matches against Hibs, Partizan Belgrade and Celtic. continued... And, while he will be guided by the Rangers medical staff's expertise on when he should return, the 23-year-old could be back before the year is out. That would be a massive boost for boss Paul Le Guen, with his team facing a testing schedule of four games in 10 days, starting with Saturday's high noon showdown at Aberdeen. Asked if he could be back sooner than expected, Boyd said: "I'm getting treatment all the time and we'll see what happens. I have to wait and see what the physio say in terms of timescale. I have to go with them. "Obviously it's very frustrating to be out injured and missing big games, but we'll see what the week brings." Boyd knew immediately that he was in bother when Milne clattered into him from behind at the Falkirk Stadium. He tried to play on, but quickly succumbed to the pain as he tried to run, and when he left the stadium on crutches after the final whistle it was clear there was a problem. But the former Killie hitman is a quick healer. He admitted: "I tried to get up and play on after the tackle came in, but I couldn't put any weight on it. "Of course it's a blow. But it's part and parcel of the game and every player goes through injuries and has to cope. "It's the downside of the game for a player, but you must look to work hard and get back to the good side, which is playing, as quickly as possible. "I've been fairly fortunate with injuries. Since coming to Rangers the only time I've been out was for the first game of the season at Motherwell which was due to suspension. "So sitting in the stand for big games like Hibs, the Uefa Cup match and Celtic has been frustrating. But you need to get on with it." Boyd, who has scored 30 goals in 32 starts since arriving from Rugby Park almost a year ago, no doubt kicked every ball at the weekend as Rangers fluffed decent chances against Celtic in the Old Firm clash that finished 1-1. There are no certainties in this game. But the Ibrox legions, who have tried to back and inspire £1.8million signing Filip Sebo all season as he goes through a lean time, would definitely have preferred Boyd to be one-on-one with Arthur Boruc in injury time rather than the Slovak, who drove his effort straight at the Pole. Whether Boyd would have made the difference on Sunday is up for debate, but he would have loved to be out there looking for his first goal against Celtic. As it was, his team-mates at least put up a show packed with pride and desire which, on another day, may well have carried them to the victory they wanted so badly. "We know it has been a disappointing season, but the last few performances have been good and we need to look to the future," said the Scotland man, who has bagged 11 goals in Light Blue this term. "It's about carrying on and trying to string together wins. We have to focus on the league with the Uefa Cup issue to one side now." Many theories have been offered on what's gone wrong at Rangers in the first half of the season under Le Guen. So much was expected of the former Lyon manager, but the league table makes painful reading with just nine wins at the 19- game halfway stage. There was also the terrible CIS Insurance Cup exit to St Johnstone which further damaged the confidence. "It's easy to say this and that about what's happened," says Boyd. "But we seemed to have been winning two and three games in a row and then dropping points at places like Falkirk, which just shouldn't happen with all respect. "But it has, and now we need to look forward. It's so important for us to try and keep the confidence growing and that does come through winning matches. "The more good results we get the better the team will come on and we must keep fighting in the SPL. It's going to be hard to close such a big gap but no-one will give up." Publication date 20/12/06
  4. Referee Kenny Clark admits he was wrong to deny Celtic a penalty during Sunday's Old Firm derby. The official ignored the pleas for a spot-kick when Neil Lennon was fouled in the box by Rangers full-back Steven Smith. Celtic were leading at the time through a Thomas Gravesen goal but were held to a 1-1 draw when Brahim Hemdani netted for Rangers with three minutes to go. Lennon and Hoops boss Gordon Strachan were both fuming about the penalty incident after the game, which could have allowed them to win the match and extend their SPL lead over Rangers to 19 points. After watching the incident again on television, Clark admits he called it wrong. Speaking on the Whistleblower section of the Scottish Football Association's website, he said: "I got the opportunity to watch the incident for the first time last evening (Monday) and, yes, it should have been a penalty kick. "In penalty area situations a referee tries to take up the best position possible and, as play developed from the left, I moved with it and thought I was well-placed. "From the angle I had at the time, I saw the challenge but obviously didn't think there had been an infringement. "Having now had the benefit of seeing the incident from various camera angles, there certainly was contact." The SFA's head of referee development Donald McVicar also admits Clark made the wrong decision. But he insists the incident should not overshadow the referee's otherwise impressive handling of a potentially explosive fixture. He said: "It's a pity that the debate is all about one decision because Kenny handled the game extremely well and contributed to what was an excellent advert for Scottish football. "He used all his experience to manage and control one of the most passionate fixtures in football and got the balance right." Good to see a ref admit he was wrong. It was even better he got it wrong. I hope he dosn't try to right the wrong in the next OF game though.
  5. I would say that Lemmon's comments are just that. He was clearly looking for it, and waqs going down before he was touched by Stevie Smith. Inciting a riot - again another dig at our fans.... there would have been a riot as he went down like a sack of spuds polaxed by a fookin JCB. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/c/celtic/6189611.stm He is also questioning the referee's ability to make decisions when he is in a game. That is surely not fooking on. One question for Lemmon - Who the fuck are you?
  6. PUNISH EVERY FAN NOT JUST THE OLD FIRM Bain demands ASBOS for all By Anthony Haggerty RANGERS chief executive Martin Bain last night leapt to the defence of the Old Firm as he welcomed new SFA plans to combat sectarianism. And he believes a new offence of unacceptable behaviour could see more clubs out with Rangers and Celtic land in the dock. Bain admitted there is a sectarian problem that is being addressed. But he insisted Rangers and Celtic cannot be blamed for all the ills in Scottish football and should not bear the brunt of all punishments. In a thinly-veiled swipe at Aberdeen in particular the Ibrox supremo maintained other clubs should be targeted for sanctions. Bain said: "It is not appropriate for people and their families to go to grounds, or have fans come to Ibrox, and listen to chants about the death of former players or disasters that may have happened at stadiums. "These are totally repugnant to all people with any moral responsibilty. "I thought everyone round the table had one common goal, basically to eradicate sectarianism from Scotland. "We believe Rangers have an important role to play in that but it's been recognised today that it is not just in isolation to Rangers. Many clubs across Scotland are involved with anti-social behaviour. "Their fans have a responsibility to their club so the benchmark that has been introduced is something we have been promoting for some time. "The detail will be important but in terms of the assesment for all clubs with respect to anti-social behaviour, it is something we will welcome. "There is no doubt the situation we had with Villarreal, the stick UEFA yielded, was one that made people sit up and think it could bring serious consequences for their team. "Yes, there always needs to be a big stick. "I hope those who implement the scheme recognise it is across all clubs, is basically about anti-social behaviour and there is a general assessment - not just Rangers and Celtic in the spotlight. "In the seminar it was clear this isn't just an issue for the Old Firm, it's other clubs and other parts of social responsibilty in Scotland. "If it just turns into Rangers and Celtic in the spotlight and points deductions just for the Old Firm on purely sectarian issues I would take umbrage. "But I have every faith it is about all football in Scotland." Bain was speaking after SFA chief executive David Taylor gave a presentation in Glasgow City Halls yesterday. It was part of the Scottish Executive's second Summit on Sectarianism, outlining proposals to be put in place for the start of next season. They will have to be ratified by the SFA and SPL before getting the go-ahead Included in the eight-point action plan is the ability to impose statutory fines for sectarian offences inside football grounds, deduction of points and even evictions from cup competitions, Taylor insisted football's governing body UEFA had not pressured the SFA into taking a tough stance, But he hopes it will not be too difficult to impose such sanctions in the Scottish game and make it fall in line with European club football and international footballing laws. Taylor said: "Sectarianism is a serious problem in society and Scottish football is caught up in that. "We have to be clear we need to do something about this and perhaps more than we have done in the past. "This has been done because we want to do it and our major clubs want to do it and there is a real willingness within Scottish football to get rid of sectarianism. "I am hoping never to have to impose these punishments but what we need to do as a last resort is to have some sort of sanctions if incidents happen that otherwise could have been prevented. "The SFA and SPL intend to introduce a new disciplinary offence of unacceptable behaviour within football grounds in Scotland. "It will be related to disorderly conduct and be wider than sectarianism which will fall into that remit. "We are in discussion with our colleagues at the SPL and the starting point would be the beginning of next season. "It requires changes to the constitutions of the SFA and SPL to bring is into line with our UEFA and FIFA counterparts and that would be before the start of the 2007/08 season. "Fines, deduction of points and banning from cup competitions are certainly within the UEFA and FIFA statutes and regulations and throughout world football. "We are being encouraged by both these regulatory bodies to do the same. "I myself sit on the UEFA disciplinary committee. "We stopped short last week of deducting points from a team in the UEFA Cup because of the misconduct of their supporters. We decided against it at the 11th hour. "However, we seriously considered it and that just goes to show what those bodies are prepared to do and we have to be ready to do likewise. "The SFA would still have gone ahead with these measures regardless if Rangers had not been fined by UEFA after the Villarreal match incidents. "I wholeheartedly agree with Martin Bain that this is not specifically aimed at punishing just the Old Firm. "This is aimed at behaviour in football grounds in Scotland and broader than sectarianism. "I am not saying the Old Firm will be deducted points for sectarian offences. "I am saying the SFA have to implement and put effective disciplinary sanctions in place as a back-up for any offences that may occur. ""I think the Old Firm fans will get the message." At last a response from Rangers defending our supporters although i get the feeling that Rangers will be the first and probably the only club to be given these tough penalties. It would seem to me when these things are implemented the judges only see the colour blue. We do have a sectarian problem and we must admit that but having different rules for other clubs for anti-social behaviour is also a form of sectarianism. I think Tailors last remark says it all really: ""I think the Old Firm fans will get the message." He only see's fit to mention the old firm surley football fans would have been more appropriate.
  7. RANGERS chairman David Murray has ruled out a January transfer window swoop for Wigan defender Andy Webster. The former Hearts stopper has again been mentioned as a possible solution to the centre-back problems at Ibrox. He was the target of a £1m bid by Alex McLeish 18 months ago, but Murray says he is not on Paul Le Guen's target list - for the moment. It is also believed Fifa red tape would prevent Webster moving back to Scotland just months after he became the first player to invoke their new employment rule. Webster served notice on Hearts he would be leaving after completing three years on a four-year contract. That allowed him to move for a nominal fee, set by a Fifa tribunal, to new employers outwith Scotland. The 24-year-old was snapped up by Wigan and, after a long process with Fifa because this was a ground-breaking case, he finally made his debut in October. But the Scotland star has played just three games and is said to be unsettled, sparking speculation Rangers were ready to move. "I know we were interested in him in the past, but not at the moment," Murray said. "How could we when we have no idea what the fee would be?" Murray also refused to comment on whether Rangers were interested in former Hearts captain Steven Pressley, who is also being tracked by Celtic, Newcastle, Southampton and Derby. It is believed Elvis is on Le Guen's list of possible January targets, and an interest has been posted with his agent Blair Morgan, but he is not the first choice. Le Guen has targeted two young centre-halves from Europe - one of which is believed to be Young Boys of Berne's 6ft 2in Ivory Cost stopper Steve Gohouri - a player the Gers boss has now watched twice recently. He could be available for around £1m, but is also being monitored by a host of mid-table Premiership sides. Le Guen's funds for a centre-half are likely to be boosted by the departure of Julien Rodriguez. The former Monaco man knows he is no longer first choice and could be shipped back to France with Rennes, Nantes and Nice all interested. The likes of Lionel Letizi, Gavin Rae, Phil Bardsley and Lee Martin are all likely to leave in January as Le Guen frees up money for three quality signings. Meantime, young Romanian sensation Marius Alexi could be on his way to Ibrox in a £250,000 deal. The 16-year-old plays with Dinamo Bucharest and is already a first- team player. Chelsea, Man United and Liverpool are all said to be looking at the midfielder, who will arrive in Glasgow shortly for a week's trial at Murray Park. A Dinamo spokesam said: "He is an exceptional player Rangers are very keen to sign." Bad news for us i think. Le Guen being interested in young Boys. I hope he now knows the type of CH you need to play in Scotland.

    Scotsport last night

Did anyone notice the blatant lack of "analysis" of the Gers game last night. They started our highlights at 12 minutes past and they were done by 20 past, no talkin about it, just the interviews then straight to the celtic game which they spoke about, includin the interview wi that wee ginger pubed wanker lennon until the adverts at almost quarter 2. In amongst all that we are told they dont know what all the hype about hibs being the best team in scotland was about and according to Scott Booth "One of the best performances of the season from Celtic". Anyone who seen the Celtic game and indeed was at or saw the full Rangers game could see the most entertaining game was Rangers'. The Celtic game was the usual drab encounter we have come to expect with diabolical goalkeeping against that wee tottimuncher mcgeady's SHITE shot. After this i text the show sayin (nothing inflammitory, nothing insulting, nothing insulting itv or scotsport) "One of the best performances of the season? roll on sunday then cos if rangers play the way we did on saturday we will steamroller celtic". After i sent it i got an automated response sayin thanks for txtn scotsport. I kept watchin but time after time it was the same old tim txts sayin how shite we are and predictin an easy win for them. Is there anyone on that show who isn't biased???????? especially grant stott, blatantly flouting his support for hibs! imagine he done the same but was a rangers fan, wouldn't last 5 mins! another example of the old firm bias in scotland, except it works in the opposite way! P.S. Well in wee John Colhoun (sp?) for shooting down Owen Coyle (glad i abused him when i saw him at Firhill complex ) after he said no team would want celtic HAHA wee john comes back wi "actually a think most teams would be thinkin "we want celtic" lol know why owen? COS THEY ARE PISH!!!!!!!!!
  9. Too many Foreigners at the OF Law wants more Scots at Old Firm Rangers' Brahim Hemdani challenges Celtic's Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink Hemdani and Vennegoor of Hesselink are Old Firm foreigners Denis Law believes a growing number of foreigners at Celtic and Rangers is stifling home-grown talent. "That's a long story, but you do wonder, and Scottish football and the Scottish team is suffering," the former Scotland striker told Radio Five Live. "You don't really know why the Scottish youth has dried up, but in a way you've got to look at them not getting the opportunity and that's the problem." Law believes the Old Firm should be providing the backbone of the team. "You look at the Rangers team and the Celtic team, which a good part of the Scottish team was taken from, and basically there are so many foreign players in there that it's got to be very difficult," he said. Celtic fielded five players from outside the British Isles in their team to play Dunfermline Athletic on Saturday. Rangers had six foreign players in their line-up to take on Hibernian on Saturday. First off, as things are improving atboth clubs is this article about 5 years late? And are Hearts not the worst offenders now? On to the point anyway: This weekend's Celtic team: Boruc, Wilson, Balde, O'Dea, Naylor, Nakamura (Riordan 75), Lennon (Sno 88), Jarosik, McGeady, Miller, Zurawski (Gravesen 75). Subs Not Used: Marshall, Telfer, Pearson, O'Brien. Miller and Wilson, 2 scots starting. 1 on as a sub. Rangers Squad: McGregor, Hutton, Hemdani, Svensson, Smith, Sionko (Rae 79), Ferguson, Clement, Adam, Prso (Sebo 76), Novo (Buffel 84). Subs Not Used: Klos, Papac, Rodriguez, Stanger. 5 Scots stating with 1 on as a sub. Normally you would also have Boyd starting and prob Burke. How do the bbc report this? "Celtic fielded five players from outside the British Isles in their team to play Dunfermline Athletic on Saturday. Rangers had six foreign players in their line-up to take on Hibernian on Saturday" FUnny choice of words. Who gives a fuck about the number of brits in the squads. Law's point is about stifling Scottish talent. So the important numbers are 2 and 5. Yet the BBC deliberatley try and make us look like the worst offenders. Very strange.
  10. Koeman

    Sebo.

I have a funny feeling that he will prove his worth on Saturday. It's all set up for him. He has been slagged in the press, by his own fans and also by a so called Rangers legend for his appearance. I feel that its in the script for him to get the winner on Saturday and then who knows against Celtic. He has been god awful and I cringe sometimes at him but he is still young, moved to a new country, has a large transfer fee on his head and its so hard to make your mark on a game coming off the bench. Now with Boyd out for the rest of the year, he should be due a start or two and he has to prove his worth or it will be straight back to the bench. He has all the right attributes for a modern day striker (pace, power) apart from a decent first touch and has to fine tune some of his positioning but he can only learn from Paul Le Guen. What is also dissapointing is how Le Guen or any other Rangers player has not come out and defended Sebo either in the press. We should be sticking together and someone should be building his confidence up. A word of support in public from the manager or the captain would probably do him the world of good. If you have a look on youtube etc, there is a game he played for Slovakia (okay, it was against Malta) and he scored a Hat-Trick and took his 3rd extremely well. So, he might now have his chance to win some of the support round come Saturday and he should have the fire in his belly come 3pm and come out like a dog fighting and want to give the "finger" to all the people who have already written him off.
  11. We were 17 points behind Celtic after 17 games last year, this year we're only 16, so that's an improvement... God it's depressing. I think someone really needs to get stuck into le Guen and demand answers of him like: "FFS - 16 pts!!! Falkirk! St Johnstone!! Please, please explain to me how the hell can you sleep at nights while being this shit? How can you show your face in public? When are you going to show us that you have the slightest idea about managing Rangers?" The thing that pisses me off is that he rubs salt into the wounds by being so crap with the press. It's so refreshing to listen to managers like John Collins and Yogi Hughs, who just tell it as it is. Even Gordon Strachan is far more open and acknowledging in his answers. Le Guen is following Ecks lead by patronising us instead of giving honest answers. I really think le Guen need a big kick up the arse instead of the kid gloves he's been getting. He needs someone to give him an epiphany, that light bulb moment that says, "you're obviously doing something wrong, and if you keep doing it, you'll most likely get the same results." But there is another bit of wisdom that applies here, "You can't change what you don't acknowledge."
  12. if boyd stays i have no doubt that he will beat larssons record but will take some beating to beat super allys
  13. Seen in the Sun today that celtic are intrested in signing Jan Huntelar Hopefully not as he is another good striker that they will bring in If this is the quality that they are bringing in/ intrested in well we are fooked

Article on BBC site syaing he wants to return to Spain. Also mentions he has been linked with Celtic. I've never heard anything like that. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/r/rangers/6191926.stm
  15. Graveson & Hesselink out for up to two weeks
  16. Didn't see Gribz game of the weekend (Man U v Chelsea) but it would have to be a cracker to be the equal or better of this game. It was a hell of a game and if you think about it the result was pretty good for us as we caught up two points on Celtic and stretched two more points ahead of a team that look like emerging as our biggest rivals for second place - no disrespect to Aberdeen but Hibs are on fire at the moment and have already played both the Old Firm off the park for most of a game. I've got Setanta and no Sky sports, besides I'm far more interested in the SPL than that over-rated league in the South, where most of the teams remind you of the old 2nd division. So it was a no brainer to me to watch this one especially as Hibs have been playing the best football in Scotland recently and Celtic have just beaten the top of the EPL. I really fancied Hibs to take the points, as Celtic haven't really been setting the heather alight and seem more adept at coming back at teams in the second half and nicking all the points. This almost happened again with Hibs dominating for the first hour, going 2-0 up and then naively pressing for a third - and almost getting it. They opened themselves up at the back and Celtic exploited that to get 2 goals back and almost took all the points themselves. It was end to end stuff, and enjoyably more so at the Celtic end, I was cheering on Hibs with gusto and pleasure, wondering what with all our money and a manager of great repute, why can't we play football like that. Hibs played at an incredibly high tempo with balls to feet and great running with the ball with close control, most of which was on the deck. When they lost the ball they harried and jostled the Celtic players to get it back and did so with aplomb on countless occasions. Their tackling was brilliant and matched a obvious desire to possess the ball. It's just a pity that they don't know when to shut up shop, but like I said, a draw was probably best for us.
  17. ...1-0 to hibs!! ivan sproule has decided he doesn`t want to be just one half of glasgows one man demolition team and has finally found how to put the ba` past the septic defence:D ..and here was me thinking john collins might lie down to his old team

  19. Game of the Weekend by a a country mile!! Im pretty much looking forward to it. Both teams got beat in midweek although Chelsea wont be that bothered as they were already through, but Man Utd may have had the confidence knocked out of them as they played there strongest side on Tuesday. But Sir Awex said it himself, they need to pick themselves up if they are determined to win the title. They have a huge incentive that they can go 6 clear of Chelsea if they were to win. They will also take confidence that they won this fixture 1-0 last season with a Fletcher goal. If they can get over there unlucky defeat to Celtic and play as they have been doing in the EPL I can see them knicking it. Man Utd 2-1 Chelsea
  20. Rangers midfielder Jeremy Clement says his summer move to Ibrox is a stepping stone to bigger things. The Frenchman followed former Lyon boss Paul Le Guen to the Old Firm club back in the summer in a bid to get regular first-team action. The 22-year-old branded the Scottish Premier League 'a minor league', but stressed that he was aiming to improve as a player with The Gers. "Lyon are the best club in France and one of the greatest in Europe," Clement said in the Daily Record. "I have nothing but happy memories of them. "But I wanted to get more playing time and that is what Paul Le Guen offered me at Rangers. "So I headed over to Scotland - but it is fair to say that their championship is a minor league. "However, Rangers are a big club with a huge support, so joining them was a good opportunity - before I revive my career at another club one day. "But while I wait for a move to come around, my aim is to make progress." Meanwhile, Gers captain Barry Ferguson insists there is no extra pressure to emulate Celtic's achievements in Europe. Rangers' Old Firm rivals caused a sensation on Tuesday when a 1-0 home win over Manchester United saw The Bhoys reach the knockout stages of the UEFA Champions League for the first time. The Gers themselves are within reach of the knockout stages of the Uefa Cup after victories over Livorno and Maccabi Haifa in Group A. A result over Auxerre in France on Thursday should see the Glasgow side follow Celtic in playing European club football in the New Year, and Ferguson is hoping to mirror Celtic's European run. "There is no extra pressure on us because Celtic are in the last 16 of the Champions League," Ferguson said. "We did it last season, reaching the last 16, and hopefully they can go on and do even better. "Of course it would be good if we could match them (Celtic) by reaching the last 16 of the Uefa Cup. "But, at this stage, I am just concerned about getting the right result against Auxerre."
  21. With Celtic winning last night - normally I'd be gutted (and I am to an extent obviously!). Celtic are now guaranteed at least £12million for their CL run as well as a minimum £6million next season that means they can possibly afford to spend up to £10million between now and the start of next season. That could be considered very bad news for us and now, more than ever, David Murray has to think back to his boasts of years past and ensure that if they do spend serious money, we match it as best we can. Right now we are struggling to be even 2nd best in Scotland. If we want to secure that and ensure a challenge against a resurgent Celtic, not only do we need investment of a worthy degree but a chairman who is up for the fight. David Murray now faces his most difficult challenge since he came to the club. He suggests he's still the man for the job and obviously many, many fans still believe that. Thus, either he puts in the investment required or if he doesn't he will be forced out all the quicker. The next 1-2 years will set the tone for the next 10-20. Will we be first or last? Only one man can answer that question - hero or villian, Mr Murray - what's it to be?
  22. Im certainly getting up at 3am to watch this tonight. It will be fireworks. I only wish Man U werent playing Chelsea on Sunday as they might not risk players and could get injuries. Id love to see a Rooney hattrick in a 3-0 romp but i think it will be closer. I read on the BBC that Fletcher is playing against the team he supported as a boy, i thought he was a Hibs fan. The group is quite close and Man U still need 2 points to guarentee qualification but i expect they will get that easy from 2 games. It obviously helps if the SPL if Celtic qualify but il be right behind Man Utd in this one. Rio for the first goal at 33/1
