  9. I was thinking of how it might go on Sunday giving that Dundee utd need a draw to get into europe. It just sounds so familiar, as i can remeber in 2005 when we played Hibs at easter road to win the league, Hibs needed a 1-0 defeat to get into europe. We obviously need a win, or to match anything Celtic do. But there is too many Celtic fans thinking they have won against Hearts already. But for me, Hearts are the team i would have picked to play Celtic to try get a point off them if i could have. So, on Sunday if Hearts manage to draw against Celtic or beat them, and Rangers and Utd are matched at say 1-1, a repeat of helicopter sundays scenario at Easter rd could occur with both teams sitting back passing the ball around, not pushing up, as both sides are content with the result. I just have a feeling Celtic are going into this game with the wrong attitude and they'll find out Hearts will punish them. I'll go for 1-1. That will mean Rangers and Utd can both get what they want with a draw, and we may even see this scenario repeated towards the end of the game as both sides will not want to lose what they have, and may see it as silly to keep pushing on when they have got what they want. Obviously i want a win on Sunday, and there will definetly be a few goals at Tannadice on Sunday. But again, i think as the Celtic result will be 1-1, this will filter through to both sides who will be tied at that point at 1-1. That will be the final score and Gers will lift the trophy by 2 points
  10. Is It me or does the whole of Scotland want us to lose the League on Sunday ? since the tims drew with hibs all i have heard is Celtic this and that , Dundee Utd are gonna do us Zaluska is a Celtic hero already ? All the tims now support D Utd ? Timmy and the Mhedia are going into meltdown as they know its out of there hands and are relying on others to do them a favour. What timmy is forgetting is that Hearts arent coming to play them for the fun of it, Hearts will be looking to take points of off Celtic and ruin their slim title hopes. But fortunatly we do not need to rely on others, we just need to grab the game by the balls and go for it bigtime. Probably like yourself i am quite nervous about Sunday but i am praying we can end Timmys slippery grip on the SPL trophy and bring it home to rest. Its Thursday morning i am in work and all i can think about is Sunday , reckon i wont get much sleep between now and the game as the nerves will get bigger the closer the game comes Just hope to God we are all Back at Ibrox awaiting the team to arrive with the SPL trophy to parade around the stadium again (minus the twats who invaded the pitch last time) If somehow timmy does manage to get 4 in a row it will be the biggest punch in the guts i will experiance so far as a Rangers fan , and i seriously dont think i could handle it. Cmon Rangers Do Us Proud on Sunday and Bring that Trophy Home.

  17. I have heard from a good footballing man in my work who knows a lot of people in the game as he supports a lower division team that the rumours circling about is that Dundee Utd Manager Craig Levein has already agreed terms to take over at Rangers from next season and Walter Smith will step down win lose or draw the League ??? Anyone heard this ? Good or Bad Appointment if it happened ?
  18. No one who witnessed Rangersââ?¬â?¢ 2nd treble in 3 seasons when we defeated Aberdeen 2-1 in the Scottish Cup Final at Hampden would believe that the man hugged and congratulated by Jock Wallace would be invited to replace Wallace as manager of Rangers. There are many rumours circulating as to why Jock Wallace left Rangers in 1978 but to say it was a shock would be an understatement. Jock Wallace epitomised Rangers and was a very successful and shrewd coach/manager. His departure left a gaping void and the board hoped that John Greig would be the man to fill this void. Much has been written regarding John Greigââ?¬â?¢s tenure as Rangers manager and most agreed that it was a terrible time in our proud history, but ironically, it started off wonderfully. Season 1978-1979 mirrored last season where a fixture pile-up and some overly negative tactics would result in Rangers coming tantalizingly close to a quadruple, but end up with the domestic cup double. Under Greig, the fixture pile-up was caused by the weather and resulted in Rangers playing only three league games between 23rd of December and 14th March. The early league results belied and gave little indication of the run that Rangers were to put together. Rangers failed to win any our opening six league fixtures. However, once the players got used to Greigââ?¬â?¢s new tactical awareness, vision and perception we looked like a team capable of going all the way domestically and in Europe. In saying that, Greigââ?¬â?¢s naivety as a manger led to mistakes being made. Possibly the most crucial was splitting the Johnstone / Smith partnership as JG wanted DJ as centre-half and captain. Domestically, the League and Scottish Cups were retained with Alex McDonald and Colin Jackson scoring the all important goals as Aberdeen were once again defeated 2-1 at Hampden. The Scottish Cup was secured after a marathon three games against Hibernian. The first two games finished 0-0 and were in truth, dire affairs. The 2nd replay saw Rangers eventually win 3-2 thanks to a Arthur Duncan own-goal (Derek Johnstone with the other two goals). The League Cup Winning Team ââ?¬â?? McCloy, Jardine, Dawson, Johnstone, Jackson, A McDonald, McLean, Russell, Urquhart, Smith and Cooper (Subs ââ?¬â?? Millar and Parlane). Scottish Cup Winning Team - McCloy, Jardine, Dawson, Johnstone, Jackson, Watson, McLean, Russell, Parlane, A McDonald and Cooper (Subs ââ?¬â?? Millar and Smith). Our league title was surrendered at Parkhead when we allowed a Celtc to come from a gaol behind and win ultimately 4-2. In the aftermath of the game, Greig was rightly criticised for his negativity and it was widely believed that if we had been more positive, we would have won the game and the league title. Hindsight is a wonderful tool, but you have to wonder if we had won this title, and therefore the treble, John Greigââ?¬â?¢s stint as Rangers manager would have been far more successful. However, it was in Europe in this first managerial season that Rangers and Greig excelled and Rangers eliminated Juventus and PSV Eindhoven with brilliant and at times, breathtaking displays. The Italian Champions contained NINE stars from Italyââ?¬â?¢s World Cup Squad and PSV were the current UEFA Cup Holders and had, until they faced Rangers, never lost a home European tie. The Juventus game at Ibrox gave the young Cammy F (i.e me!) an early taste of those unbeatable and unmatchable European nights at Ibrox, Ibrox was in the process of being rebuilt, but the atmosphere was electric and goals from Alex McDonald and Gordon Smith ensured that Rangers progressed. After a 0-0 draw at Ibrox, the feeling that was Rangers had blown their opportunity against PSV as their impressive home form suggested that we would struggle. This seemed to be the case as we lost a goal in the first minute, but Rangers rallied and with goals from McDonald and Johnstone put us 2-1 in front. The Dutch champions levelled, but Bobby Russell scored an unforgettable goal late on and Rangers became the first European club to win in Eindhoven. The quarter final draw saw us paired with FC Cologne and a severely depleted Rangers team were narrowly defeated 2-1 on aggregate and the European dream was over. If John Greigââ?¬â?¢s first season as manager has shown some promise, his 2nd was calamitous with Rangers failing to win a trophy and finish an embarrassing 5th position in the league, 11 points behind eventual champions Aberdeen (who secured 7 points from 8 from Rangers). Our away form was abysmal with Rangers gaining only 10 points from 18 away games ââ?¬â?? a total bettered by all bar the two relegated teams (Dundee and Hibernian). Aberdeen also put an end to our League Cup hopes defeating us in a two-legged third round tie. We faired slightly better in the Scottish Cup where we reached the final after defeating Dundee UTD, Hearts and Aberdeen before losing to a deflected George McCluskey shot in extra time in an OF Final. In Europe, after seeing off Lilliestrom in the Cup Winners Cup preliminary round, we defeated Fortuna Dusseldorf by 2-1 to then face Spanish giants Valencia. A 1-1 draw in Spain looked to have paved our way, but the magic of Mario Kempes proved too much for Rangers at Ibrox and the Spanish side went on to with the trophy against Arsenal. On a more positive note, the redevelopment of Ibrox took a major step forward with the opening of the Copland Road Stand. Bolstered by much needed signings (Jim Bett and Colin McAdam and the return of Willie Johnston), Rangers entered season 1980-81 knowing that they need to improve significantly. Rangers got off to an impressive start in the league with an unbeaten run of 15 matches which included two OF victories and a record 8-1 win away to Kilmarnock. However, this form wasnââ?¬â?¢t to last and a disastrous run in November and December threw our title challenge of the rails. Aberdeen once again knocked us out of the League Cup and the game was marred with controversy when referee George Smith awarded The Dons not one, but two contentious penalties, the second being awarded for a foul that occurred on the semi-circle outside the penalty box! Due to having no European participation, Rangers entered the Anglo-Scottish which led to humiliation and embarrassment at the hands of English minnows, Chesterfield Town. The third division side held Rangers to a 1-1 draw at Ibrox (Gordon Dalzeil) then thumping Rangers 3-0 in the away leg. We were to finish 3rd in the league 12 points behind Champions Celtic in the league campaign that was over before it really got started. The disastrous run in Nov/Dec was one that we would never recover from. However, there was slight solace in the Scottish Cup where we faced Dundee United. After a tedious 0-0 draw where Ian Redford would miss a last minute penalty for us against his former employers, Rangers went on to win the replay 4-1 with a wonderful performance topped by some Davie Cooper magic. Cooper was dropped for the original game, but made a devastating return in the replay scoring a goal and setting up two others. John McDonald (2) and Bobby Russell were the other scorers. The season ended the end or Alex McDonaldââ?¬â?¢s illustrious Rangers career. Remembered for his true Rangers spirit and his diving headers, Alex McDonald would always be held in great esteem by the fans. After 12 years of sterling service to Rangers, Alex McDonald was sold to Hearts for Ã?£30,00 and would later go on to manage the Gorgie side (along with Sandy Jardine). Scottish Cup Winning Team - Stewart, Jardine, Dawson, Stevens, T Forsyth, Bett, Cooper, Russell, Johnstone, Redford and J McDonald
  19. Feb 27 2009 By Keith Jackson SPL bosses have held secret talks about the nightmare scenario of sending Celtic to Fir Park for a THIRD time this season as the title race goes down to the wire. Record Sport can reveal the proposal would also see championship rivals Rangers playing Mark McGhee's men at Ibrox three times - and avoid returning to Motherwell's dreaded pitch in the run-in. The potential fixture farce will almost certainly explode if Well can fend off challenges from Hibs and Hamilton to stay in the top six at the split. Motherwell edged into sixth place last weekend with a 1-1 draw at home to Celtic on a playing surface which is so badly damaged Record Sport columnist Mark Hateley called for the authorities to shut Fir Park down immediately on health and safety grounds. If the the current top six of Rangers, Celtic, Hearts, Dundee United, Aberdeen and Motherwell all make the final cut the SPL will have to make drastic changes to the card. Top-flight bosses Lex Gold and Iain Blair have discussed contingency plans and have drawn up two alternatives - neither of which will go down well with Celtic or their fans. If the Hoops are not forced to go to Fir Park for a third time they will almost certainly face a third trip to face Hearts, with the Tynecastle men playing Rangers at Ibrox three times. Ensure That would be necessary to ensure as many top-flight teams as possible play 19 home and 19 away fixtures over the season. In previous years Rangers have had to go to Aberdeen and Dundee United three times to make up for this anomaly - but Celtic have neverbeenadverselyaffected. However, that will change this time should Motherwell make the top six. As is stands, Rangers will have played 16 home games at the split with Celtic on 17. Celtic would then be due to play two away games at Ibrox and Pittodrie, with three further home clashes against Dundee United, Hearts and Motherwell. Rangers would face Celtic and Aberdeen at home with away days at Tannadice, Tynecastle and Fir Park. But that would mean Celtic had 20 home games compared to the Ibrox side's 18, which is why the SPL would intervene by switching two of the games to send Gordon Strachan's men to Fir Park or Tynecastle. Dundee United could also benefit as they would be in line to be the only team in the top six to play 20 home games and 18 away. Last night SPL chief Iain Blair confirmed talks have taken place to thrash out a rearranged fixture list. He told Record Sport: "Yes, we are aware of the potential problems. Our only objective is to come up with the fairest set of fixtures possible." How the split fixtures would work: RANGERS Home: Celtic, Aberdeen, Hearts or Motherwell. Away: Hearts or Motherwell, Dundee Utd. CELTIC Home: Dundee Utd, Hearts or Motherwell. Away: Hearts or Motherwell, Rangers, Aberdeen. DUNDEE UTD Home: Aberdeen, Motherwell, Rangers. Away: Celtic, Hearts. http://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport/2009/02/27/exclusive-spl-in-talks-over-plans-to-send-celtic-to-fir-park-for-third-time-but-rangers-would-avoid-pitch-nightmare-86908-21156598/
  20. STEVEN LENNON'S second goal in as many reserve games wasn't enough to secure all three points at Station Park. Steven LennonRangers returned to Forfar's ground for the second time in a week - this time to face Dundee Utd - but came away with another draw against the Tannadice side. Tommy Wilson felt his side had done enough to win the game but Garry Kenneth's 75th minute equaliser earned a point as he cancelled out Lennon's 37th minute opener. United had started the brighter before the visiting side took the lead against the run of play. Tommy WilsonAaron Niguez, returning to the ground where he scored his first senior goal for the club six days earlier, skipped past two United challenges to float a perfect cross to Lennon at the back post. The recently returned striker stooped to meet the cross and head past Michael McGovern in the United goal. Aaron was then withdrawn in the first minute of the second half as a precaution when he felt a tightness in his groin - with Kal Naismith replacing the Spanish winger. It was a disappointment for Wilson to lose the rising star but he was further frustrated by the decision that led to United's equaliser. The home side were awarded a free kick near the corner flag - a decision which incensed Wilson and Jimmy Sinclair - and when Paul Dixon swung in the set piece, Kenneth rose highest to head past Graeme Smith. To compound matters Lennon was then denied a penalty in the dying stages when he went down under the challenge of keeper McGovern only to see the referee wave away his appeals for a spot kick. Rangers: G.Smith; Lowing, Little, Dailly, Kinniburgh; Edu, Hemdani; Campbell, S. Naismith, Aaron (K. Naismith 46); Lennon. Subs: Gallacher, Forbes, Cole.

  23. Anyone else get the feeling that we'll see Walter field a 4-5-1 at Parkhead on the 15th? Would it be a bad idea? I think it's fair to say that there's a pretty good chance that's exactly what we'll see. Nacho Novo is reportedly out for 2 or 3 weeks with an ankle injury and after the impact that Kyle Lafferty made when he came on against Dundee Utd today, there's the chance that we might see him getting a start up front as the lone striker. There's also a good chance that we'll see John Fleck deservedly retain his place on the left of midfield, since he's got the pace, skill & game awareness to give most defenses a troublesome time. In the absence of Kevin Thomson, the midfield 3 of Barry Ferguson, Pedro Mendes & Steven Davis practically picks itself, so the big question might be whether Walter goes with Naismith or Miller on the right wing. Despite the fact that neither of them are natural right wingers, they're both capable of doing a good job out there, so it's difficult to predict who Walter would start in that position. I'm undecided myself as to who I'd like to see starting there, but I'd probably go with Naismith & bring on Miller to replace him if need be. So, my prediction is that we'll be playing a 4-5-1 with the starting line-up looking something like:- .........Broadfoot - Bougerra - Weir - Papac........... Naismith/Miller - Davis - Mendes - Ferguson - Fleck ..............................Lafferty........................... If we happen to take the gamble & play a 4-4-2 the starting line-up would be looking something like:- .........Broadfoot - Bougerra - Weir - Papac........... ...........Davis - Mendes - Ferguson - Fleck........... ...................Boyd - Lafferty/Miller..................... It'll be a tough game, but I think we can definitely beat them. Score prediction:- Celtic 1 - Rangers 2
  24. 2000 Dundee Utd fans outside the ground 15 mins into the game due to only a few turnstiles being opened. Also buses turned away from the car park despite having passes. Hampden Pitch in a messy state. Yet another call for summer football. It really sickens me how so much brainless idiots are running a top level football organisation. Its gone beyond embarrassing, they just cant get anything right. 2000 fans travelling down on a cold midweek night and they cant get into the National Stadium!!!!
  25. 4 minutes to go in ET and it's 0-0. Been a pretty decent game. Flood missed a good chance at the start of the 2nd period of ET. Maybe he did it on purpose against his potential employers. End to end now, brilliant stuff! The last 2 minutes have been crazy. The dhims have hit the bar twice in the last couple of minutes.
