  1. Kelvingrove art gallery has just been opened after a 35M refit. This made me wonder how much was actually spent on resurrecting Hampden as I think it was around double the amount. But how many of you will go to Hampden to a cup final or to watch our national team, and how many will go to the art gallery? It just shows the ludicrous spending in Scotland where we spend more than 4 times on art that we spend on sport - and yet we're supposed to have the highest heart disease in the world. You have to ask how proud you are of Scottish art compared to how proud you would be if our Scotland team was four times better due to spending 4 times as much on grassroots football and facilities? Would you rather have a load of public football pitches to play on and a decent local sports centre or a local museum and art gallery? And which would be better for the health of our nation? I think we should have spend far more on a decent national stadium that holds about 70,000 rather than 50,000, on the scale of the Millennium stadium. That we we wouldn't have to scramble so much for tickets against France - or a cup semi final of Rangers v Hearts. But we spent the money on the carbuncle in Edinburgh instead.
  2. Letizi is still injured so McGregor will be in goals.Papac has had trouble with his Visa so he will probably miss out. I doubt if Fergie will start, but he will play a role at sometime. So i think this will be the starting line-up __________________McGregor______________ Bardsley________Rodriguez_______Svensson_______Smith _____________Clement______Hemdani______________ __________Burke______Prso______Martin ____________________Boyd_________________
  3. Regarding the Celtic Rangers game on September 23rd. Here's what they sent: 'Dear Supporter CELTIC V RANGERS, 23 SEPTEMBER - TICKET PAYMENT Rangers received confirmation during the close season from Celtic that their prices for visiting Rangers support would stay the same as season 0506, however we were informed last week that these prices have now increased by £1. We will therefore have to take an additional payment of £1 to cover the full charge of your ticket. This payment will be taken on 20 September. Rangers apologise to supporters affected by the price increase but would stress that it is a matter entirely outwith our control. Thank you for your continued support for the Club. Yours faithfully Andy Ward Head of Ticketing' How shite is this? They can just take money off you and there's nothing you can do about it.
  4. The Gers' gaffer was delighted to see both players in action as the Reserves beat Hearts 3-0 on Tuesday but insists that the duo will still have to fight for their places in his starting eleven. Le Guen has been impressed with the way Brahim Hemdani and Jeremy Clement have performed this season but is fully aware that the return of the captain, and Burkey, will give everyone a boost. He said: "It is true that Barry and Chris are both ready to be back and it is good news for us. They are both important players for the club.Chris Burke "I know that Barry is an big player for Rangers but I need to remind everyone that Brahim has done very well from the beginning of the season. "Barry will need to fight for his place in the team and this is normal. "We can't guarantee any player a place in the team, that is impossible. "But it is great we have Barry back in the squad because he is our captain but, first of all, because he is a very good player." Rangers fans will be hoping to see new signing Sasa Papac in a Light Blue jersey on Saturday afternoon. The defender was in action as Bosnia lost 3-1 at home and Le Gaffer will wait until tomorrow before making a decision on whether to hand the player his Gers debut. He said: "Sasa is currently in Sarajevo so let's wait for him to return and I will speak to him before deciding what will happen this weekend. It is too early for me to speak about what I am going to do. It is true when players feature in internationals and have to travel they can be tired and I have to take this into consideration. "But Sasa is a good player to have in the squad as he is left footed and can play in the centre of defence or at left-back. "These two options are important for me and he is a very good signing for the club. "I am happy with the squad I have right now and I feel that this is a new start for us. The team will now be asked to play every three or four days and in tough games. "But with the squad I have I feel we are ready to try and achieve our aims." Le Guen has been happy with his side's recent form but is aware that his side must take their chances in front of goal, starting this weekend against FalkirkKris Boyd. He said: "I know that we need to improve in this area. I think we have had had four good games now and have missed chances. "However, I am happy with the way the players are working and we need to keep this going. "This weekend's game against Falkirk could be a dangerous one for us. We have seen their matches and we must be careful. "I still have a few decisions to make for this game. We have to see about Lionel Letizi as we might have to give him another week before he comes back. "Again I will decide on this tomorrow."
  5. Did anyone else see it? He was being quizzed quite a lot about the difficult times during his time with Rangers and as usual his dignified answers really impressed me. I know we've been over it a hundred times but a lot of shit was thrown a Eck which may or may not have been warranted but we did have some great times. They showed clips of the treble win and last seasons CL run and I have to admit it I did get a lump in my throat. I wish him all the best in whatever he does next.
  6. Rangers in this years grand final on sky just now agaisnt liverpool. Currently 1 - 1 Mon the gers.

  8. To honour the 50th Anniversary of the Great Man's passing, I thought we could have a new banner for a few weeks while his name will be on every Rangers fans' lips. We welcome the chase!
  9. Good news, nothing against Hemdani really, but i think the Ferguson/Clement partnership will be a step forward.
  10. I think some certain Rangers fans need to take a look at themselves. I cant believe some would have a blast at a team who are only 4 weeks and 5 games old. It can clearly be seen on the pitch we have came strides in certain play and its simply been a case of unlucky / poor finishing which has kept our goals 'for' down. We were impressive against Motherwell, played some awesome stuff against Dundee Utd and great against Hearts. Again yesterday we were unlucky. Only the away trip to Dunfermline has been poor, so 4 out of 5 isnt bad for a "new" team. There is no doubt we havent settled at the back. Steven Smith is a good promising wee left back and everyone will agree he is not quite Arthur Numan yet but he is a 19 year old lad. Hutton has been hot and cold and the last thing he needs is critisism. I dont know how many of the anti-Hutton brigade have ever had a bad brake but let me tell you now from experience it can take years to get your confidence and full abillity back. It looks like we are going to add a central defender in this week which wont be a bad thing as the central 2 are finding it hard to gel but they are certainly not any worse than some previous defenders. In the midfield we have 2 realible players doing a fine job sitting infront of the back 4. Ive always rated Hemdani as he quietly goes about his job and very rarely losses possestion. Clement is a bit of the same but puts himself about a bit more and these 2 look confortable in the side. Barry Ferguson still has to come back and id say there was a call for all 3 of these players to remain in the XI. In the final 3rd its been change week after week due to injuries which hasnt helped gain us consistancy. Sionko came out the blocks flying and looked a real find but hasnt continued but like I always say players need games to gel under new surroundings and fully get match fit after preseason. Buffel needs to be told a match lasts 90 mins and not 60 and practice some shooting and he could end up being the player of the year. But the others have all been doing a fine job. All in all is there any bear who would actually swap todays position for say 8 or 9 months ago??? Absolutely not IMO. I look at the bigger picture and I can slowly but surely see the jigsaw coming together. Anyone who demands a team to win 3-0 everyweek is unrealistic and doesnt know football.
  11. OLIVIER Bernard returned to Newcastle on Friday and admitted: "I wish I'd never left! The French full-back spent four and a half years at Gallowgate after moving from Lens in 2000, and he returns to St. James' Park after being released by Scottish giants Glasgow Rangers. Bernard told Newcastle World TV: "When you spend so many years with a club like Newcastle, I just wish I'd never left. "That was probably the biggest mistake I've made since I've been in football. "I'm here today and I hope I can be here for the next couple of years. "It's Newcastle, it's a big club and maybe you only realise that when you leave it. "I soon as I passed through the door I realised the mistake I had made. "Today is payback time. I want to play for this club and show everyone I'm back for good. "When the opportunity came to come back I just had to jump on it and I know the family are happy to come back here. "Since I left I have been dreaming about wearing the shirt again, and today I have done that. Like I said, it is great to be back." Normally, I would say this is madness. But all they had was Babayaro, so..

  13. NACHO NO GO Contrary to a number of various media reports Coventry City can confirm that they will not be signing Rangers forward Nacho Novo. It had been reported that the Spanish player had put pen-to-paper on a deal here at the Ricoh, but this is not the case. Stay tuned to ccfc.co.uk - the only place to get the official City news ahead of the transfer deadline. http://www.ccfc.premiumtv.co.uk
  14. RANGERS have been praised by Uefa in their bid to rid the club of sectarian baggage. The governing body fined the Ibrox club £15,500 in June following an appeal against their own not guilty verdict for chanting at last season's Champions League ties against Villarreal. They were warned that future misbehaviour could lead to heavier sanctions. Rangers were also ordered to embark on a sustained campaign to ram home the message to fans that the minority must clean up their act. So far that has included high profile Pride over Prejudice campaigns, a new song book being handed out to fans, and constant messages over the tannoy system that any sectarian singing will not be tolerated. A special hotline number has also been set up for fans to shop those around them who they feel are indulging in inappropriate signing or behaviour. And, in a Uefa document sent to every professional club in Europe - named Unite Against Racism - Rangers have been held up us a model of how clubs can tackle their problems. "Religious hatred manifests itself in many forms in Scottish and Northern Irish football with on-going anti-Catholic and pro-Republican chanting and violence at football matches in Glasgow and Edinburgh," said Uefa. "It might seem daunting to understand how a club could tackle a problem that has arisen from generations of conflict, or a history that refuses to go away. "They (Rangers) have an in-house sectarian and racism monitoring committee that meets monthly to ensure Rangers consistently challenge any inappropriate behaviour. "In addition, the club has entered into official protocol with its police force, whereby the identities of persons arrested for football related crimes are revealed and official warnings, as well as indefinite and lifetime bans, are imposed."

    What has gone wrong?

Does anyone else realise that the general standard of both rangers and celtic has vastly detiorated over the past few seasons? 5 years ago we were still trying to be like man utd, now weve succumbed to being a breeding ground for their youngsters. 5 and ten years a go we were linked with and tried to get some big names from europe, at times we got them, at times we failed, no were trying to sign a 3rd player from a piss poor austrian team??? does that mean austria vienna have better players than us??? what the hell has happened? were now relying on kris boyd to score our way outta trouble it seems, i no its only a few games into the season but i mean they dont fill me with great confidence. wen baz comes back it wont exactly makes us a great deal stronger in midfield, clement is up and coming hemdani is mince and baz is average at best, we badly need more talent, and not anymore from vienna or poorer teams in spl. to me we are just heading in the wrong direction your thoughts please?

  18. 29 August 2006 RANGERS 0 DUNFERMLINE 1 Dunfermline's win over Rangers at the Broadwood Stadium meant that the Glasgow club remain rooted to the foot of the SPL Reserve League. Following on their 2-1 reversal at Tannadice last week, Ian Durrant's team fell to an Owen Morrison goal. The Ulsterman who has got himself into a valuable habit of scoring 69th minute goals against Rangers struck with a volley after Craig Wilson cushioned header from an Iain Williamson cross was nicely placed in his direction. The first half was played in awkward blustery conditions that were not conducive to good football. Nevertheless Darren Young shot narrowly wide after 12 minutes and following a series of corners he again was closet with a header that went over the bar. Roddy McKenzie saved from Moses Ashikodi before Dunfermline created another good chance just ten minutes from the break. Alan McDonough's driving run down the right set up Calum Smith but the 18 year old's attempt was deflected for another corner. Smith troubled Rangers on the restart making ground down the right before cutting inside and driving in on goal before releasing a shot that the keeper turned around the post. Rangers were giving as good as they got and were unlucky when a Brian Gilmour shot from distance hit the post. Young was the next to threaten and was a little unfortunate to see his 55th minute shot saved by Robinson. The Pars did however make the opening 14 minutes later with a 22 yard Morrison effort that gave Lee Robinson little hope of stopping the ball as it soared into the top right corner. The lead was preserved thanks to Iain Campbell who quickly mopped up after a fine McKenzie save when Rangers really should have struck. Rangers pressed for an equaliser and Dunfermline looked dangerous on the break but the Pars ran out victors. 20. A NIGHT RANGERS WILL NEVER FORGET 10:00 - 26 August 2006 As the latest clutch of mostly uninspiring European matches found their way onto our screens this week, a radio phone-in debated one of football's mysteries: how is it that Glasgow Rangers have won just a single European trophy? That victory arrived on May 24, 1972, at Barcelona's Nou Camp, when Rangers produced a glorious performance in the first hour of the Cup Winners' Cup final to lead Moscow Dynamo 3-0. Although the Russians rallied and scored two late goals, it wasn't enough to deny a group of players whose names were to be etched into the club's folklore. Author and journalist Paul Smith had a distinct advantage in his quest to interview Rangers' 11 European heroes in his entertaining To Barcelona and Beyond, for his father Davie was widely regarded as the man of the match on that epic night. Smith has written an intimate and, at times, moving portrait of the lives of the eleven before, during and after their European experience. Unlike the current Rangers team, as cosmopolitan a bunch as there is in British football, the 1972 vintage were all Scots. Most played for their country and, in an era when Scotland produced a good proportion of Britain's finest footballers, players such as John Greig and Colin Stein remain legends for club and country. Smith's stories of lesser lights including goalkeeper Peter McCloy and full-back Willie Mathieson highlight the strength of an unusually loyal team bond which has lasted more than three decades. Of course, there were also mavericks. Alfie Conn moved to Tottenham soon after the European triumph having been deemed surplus to Ibrox's requirements. Despite playing fewer than 40 games for Spurs, he became a cult hero, fondly remembered as the player who sat on the ball during a particularly fraught encounter with Don Revie's Leeds. Conn played in the North American Soccer League, as did Willie Johnston, two-goal hero in the final. Johnston's career post-Barcelona included one of the most notorious episodes in World Cup history. He failed a drugs test following the embarrassing 3-1 defeat to Peru in Scotland's opening game of the 1978 World Cup. Despite his protestations of innocence and his exemplary career, it's a millstone which he has had to carry around with him for nearly 30 years. On reflection, there seems to be too little recognition for the team that won Rangers' only European trophy, which seems bizarre considering the quality of opposition they had to overcome. In addition to Moscow Dynamo, effectively the Russian national team, they dispatched Rennes and Sporting Lisbon in the opening rounds before defeating a very strong Torino outfit in the quarter-finals. Yet perhaps their greatest victory was the 3-1 aggregate win over Bayern Munich in the semi-finals. Bayern were about to embark on a hat-trick of European Cup triumphs and half the side, including Franz Beckenbauer and Gerd Muller, were to become part of the West Germany team that won the 1974 World Cup. Poignantly, Rangers' triumph arrived little over a year after 66 supporters died in the Ibrox Disaster and it became a fitting memorial. Nevertheless, Uefa deemed the exuberant celebrations of Rangers' supporters on the Nou Camp pitch a suitable case for punishment. The club was banned from defending its trophy the following season. Meanwhile, that second European success has yet to arrive??? What memories!!! Dave Smith one of my schoolboy heroes. I wish we had him and Tom Forsyth in the team today.
  21. Administering the result. Thatââ?¬â?¢s what the Italians call it. Maybe if we hadnââ?¬â?¢t been wearing Monaco strips - maybe if weââ?¬â?¢d stuck to the Azzurri home tops weââ?¬â?¢d somehow have been able to see out the second of the leads we took in Ayrshire today. But then again, Big Dado once knocked in four goals in twenty three minutes of a Champions League match wearing that very strip he wore today, against a Deportivo La Coruna side who traditionally play in a bit of a Killie strip. He couldnââ?¬â?¢t put away two gilt-edged chances today. But then again, we have two deep-lying midfielders in our new formation, supposedly to give us a way of bolting tight shut our defence in the event of, say, trying to hang onto a 1-goal lead with four minutes to go. But then again, again, Dado did set up both Kris Boydââ?¬â?¢s goals, is an all-round legend without whom weââ?¬â?¢d be nothing and - geeze a break! - weââ?¬â?¢re only five games intae the season, the first season of a new regime, and the transfer window isnae even shut yet. Paul Le Guenââ?¬â?¢s still sketching the outline of his master plan and thereââ?¬â?¢s plenty of evidence that itââ?¬â?¢ll be a seriously impressive work when complete. To be only one point off the top and still unbeaten in such circumstances - without Barry Ferguson - is pretty much as good as you can hope for. Give Killie their due - they fought and fought and, apparently, had a pair oââ?¬â?¢ fair shouts for penalties before the one they eventually got. I say ââ?¬Å?apparentlyââ?¬Â because my Ã?£23.00 today bought me a dollââ?¬â?¢s house furniture-sized seat in the second-front row of the Chadwick Stand. Thatââ?¬â?¢s the subterranean area of the ground. Iââ?¬â?¢d been approached by a policeman before the game as I slinked up a side street to shove in my contacts - the constable thought I was popping some sort of drug. If only I was that interesting and if only Iââ?¬â?¢d taken a periscope instead of some disposable soft lenses. The first half seemed to be going okay because Allan McGregor, stood almost above me, touched the ball about twice, most of the Rangers team and Kilmarnock players spent most of the opening 45 down at the other end, almost out of eye-shot and all the Gers fans in the Moffat stand stood up and cheered at one point. I think we were winning 1-0 at half-time. To be honest, it was great to be so close to the action - well, to the pitch. This is why going to games beats the TV every time - even if your viewââ?¬â?¢s shit, you still feel more involved. Even, ironically, if you donââ?¬â?¢t know whatââ?¬â?¢s happening because all you can see up the other end of the pitch is a mass of legs from the knees up, you have a goalie right in front of you who could hear every bit of abuse or encouragement you decided to throw his way. Hey - youââ?¬â?¢re making a difference, man. The Killie keeper decided he wasnââ?¬â?¢t taking any chances today - heââ?¬â?¢d read all about Artur Boruc - so he wore an orange top. Low and behold, my aunt, uncle and wee cuz were in the row behind me, along a wee bit. They had a spare seat for the second half and I completed the first misfortune of their day by joining them. Too bad I slipped back a row - being second from the front, I was determined to do one of those things ye always see front-row punters doing - like clambering over the wall to bear-hug a Rangers scorer or push my fat, bealinââ?¬â?¢ face into a stewardââ?¬â?¢s as I ranted and raved about some trivial tenuous ââ?¬Å?public orderââ?¬Â issue which Iââ?¬â?¢d got confused with the fact my team chucked away a late equaliser. Once I eventually found my seat in the massive game of Sudoko which is Rugby Park - only every fith or sixth seat has a number on it so if youââ?¬â?¢re in number 67 you have to look all round for a 70 or a 63, say, and then start counting - my main concern was getting plenty of reasons to jump up and down, because Kilmarnock FC donââ?¬â?¢t provide seats suitable for the more generously proportioned gentleman. On the big screen opposite, McSherry and someone, solicitors were flashing up nicely conceited adverts for ââ?¬Å?getting you out of a tight cornerââ?¬Â but I could have done with their help just to get my knees from under my front teeth after following the edict from another advert to try the Killie pie. I work alongside Frazer Wrightââ?¬â?¢s cousin - a Motherwell fan and a top bloke. Allan would go down to Stair Park to see Mr Wright at the outset of his career and Iââ?¬â?¢d be one of the anoraks most interested in his second-hand, first-hand tales of life in the senior ranks come Monday morning. Frazer was only 40-odd games away from becoming Stranraerââ?¬â?¢s all-time record holder for appearances when he went to Killie, still at the age of 12ish. Iââ?¬â?¢d told his cuz that, had it been me, Iââ?¬â?¢d probably have stayed in the lower divisions to get the record rather than leave for the SPL big time. Thatââ?¬â?¢s because Iââ?¬â?¢m anal - but I wish heââ?¬â?¢d fucking done it, then the bugger wouldnââ?¬â?¢t have equalised against us today. But, despite the misses from Dado, our Croat god plugged away to help create another chance which was again sublimely finished by Kris Goal-Machine Boyd. Ah, the thrill of seeing the ball slipped under the keeper, just a few yards in front of where yer sat. Ahh, the agony of realising the last time ye were this close to the action was at Dunfermline on Boxing Day when - BINGO! - we conceded an injury tme penalty to deny us a victory. Bugger. What IS happening to this Masonic conspiracy???!! I pay good money to keep things ââ?¬Å?on the levelââ?¬Â in Scottish Football! Will someone PLEASE remind the refs Rangers are supposed to be AWARDED last-minute pens. Anyway, Buffel came on and so did Sebo. Sebo looked ineffective and made a very poor choice with our last chance of the game but it was hardly his fault we dropped yet more points in this rebuilding period. Thomas B looks just like Dado these days - able to open up defences at will but unable to be the second natural finisher we need. Just as well Boyd is a preternatural finisher. Bazza, Burkey and even Bardsley will all return and the outline will be completed, the shading applied and the detail detailed. Weââ?¬â?¢ll soon all be able to clearly see a fully realised winning Rangers portrait - even if weââ?¬â?¢re stuck in the first few rows of the Chadwick or Moffatt stands. PS - if yer driving from Glasgow to North Ayrshire on February 11th next year, you could do worse than find yerself parked outside the Bonnyton cafe. Superb bag of chips and a can of coke for Ã?£1.70. Feed yer face as ye listen to the radio reports and the line of traffic which is jamming ye in begins to dwindle. Iââ?¬â?¢ll be needing a giant shoe horn to get me out my Killie seat in the New Year ââ?¬Â¦
  22. A good friend of mine and 14 others are coming up to Glasgow from Derby for a stag do on the weekend of the Falkirk game. I thought it would be a good idea to take in the match (even though they are all Rams fans I have brainwashed them all into being closet blue noses) Most of them were at the Ted Mcminn benefit match in May and they are looking forward to sampling the famous Ibrox atmosphere. Anyway my mate called the ticket hotline to book the tickets and apparently they can't post more than 7 tickets at one time so he called me and aksed if I could pick them up from the ticket office (which is no problem) then the ticket hotline asked for a £ 1.25 booking fee per ticket. After spending £336 on tickets I think they have a cheek asking for this additional booking fee. Fair enough I could accept a 1.25 charge for the whole transaction but per ticket is a bit steep. This is the email of complaint he has sent, Myself and 14 other friends are coming up to see Rangers v Falkirk for my stag weekend. Trying to buy tickets over the phone I was amazed to be told that each ticket would be charged a handling fee of £1.25 each. After spending £336 already I declined to pay this. This is a total rip off and cannot be justified in any way. Having watched Rangers play in the Ted Mcminn friendly in May I was looking forward to see many friends again who we met over that weekend. You comments ,without patronising rubbish , would be welcome Anyway rant over, do you agree this is a big rip off or are we just being stingy bassas?
  23. Roy Keane is being linked with a sensational return to football as manager of Sunderland. The club refused to state Keane was on the brink of being handed the job, however they confirmed talks with "a high-profile figure" were ongoing with a view to a swift appointment. The Black Cats slumped to a 2-0 defeat at Bury on Tuesday in the first round of the Carling Cup, a result which came on the back of four straight league losses. Niall Quinn, the chairman-manager, decided to relinquish all coaching duties after the Gigg Lane shock and announced his intention to appoint a "world-class" new boss. Manchester United legend Keane has no prior management experience, which would make him raw to the job rather than of established pedigree. However he enjoyed enormous success during his playing career and as a former United captain is a recognised leader. Quinn also knows him well, the pair having played in the same Republic of Ireland side for many years. Sunderland said in a statement: "No new managerial appointment has been made at this time. "The club is in discussions with a high-profile figure and is hopeful an announcement will be made in the near future." Keane, 35, retired as a player in June, after a short spell with Celtic during which he helped the Bhoys win the Bank of Scotland Premier League and Scottish League Cup. He ended a 12-year association with United in November 2005 and fulfilled a lifetime ambition by joining Celtic on an 18-month deal. He managed only 13 appearances for the Hoops before quitting on medical advice. With his body ravaged after cruciate ligament and hip operations, Keane had no choice other than to follow doctor's orders, and - should he be confirmed as Sunderland's new boss - there seems no prospect of him combining management with playing at the Stadium of Light. Well that will cut off any chance of Rangers players going there.
  24. 11:40 - 25 August 2006 Plymouth Argyle, who travel to Stoke tomorrow, have put winger Bojan Djordjic on the transfer list. The 24-year-old, who joined Argyle from Rangers in 2005, has not impressed new Pilgrims boss Ian Holloway. "It is based on my observations since I have been here," Holloway said. "I know what I want, he should be practising corners and free-kicks every day. The boy knows what I've said and it is down to him. If he makes me change my mind, great - but at the moment he is on it." Torquay United are home to Chester City in League 2. In League 1 Yeovil Town entertain early season leaders Port Vale. This guy seems to be more talented with his mouth rather than his feet.
  25.
