Fenian isn't a word that need be used gratuitously but is certainly also the best word to use on occasion.

To be a Ranger is to sense the sacred trust of upholding all that such a name means in this shrine of football. They must be true in their conception of what the Ibrox tradition seeks from them. No true Ranger has ever failed in the tradition set him."

I'm sure Bill Struth knew when to use it and when not to. Every person on this forum is capable of the same. If you're unsure then I suggest you use the quote above to help you decide.

To be honest I have heard quite a few people making fenian bastard comments about people going into/out of chapels and or blessing themselves etc. The point is it's ambiguous, but that they're claiming all the amiguous ground that should be the realms of free speech as their own.

They're claiming all the ground due the fact they systematically position themselves in places of power, complain, then use a well oiled propaganda machine and in football related terms, our club has no backbone.

Anything that isn't Celtic will be labelled as some sort of protestant established organisation. From that, people tend to let it go for fear of reprisals in one shape or form.

To be honest, if I want to sing the famine song, TBB or NPOR, then I will. Nobody can stop me, you or anyone else.

Nobody is stopping you and I think you'll find everyone on here (or at least the majority) will enjoy singing all of those songs as WE know the intention behind them is merely tribal banter.

Thus, in the context of a football match/occasion, such terms have merit and while perhaps crass should not be proscribed. Elsewhere, such as during intelligent debate on forums, then they're arguably less necessary depending on any given topic.

Absolutely Frankie. I only sing/chant at football grounds, maybe even in the bus or pub pre and post match, but it's all within the realms of the football experience.

As for using fenian in a debate, no I wouldn't use it. I don't debate that much - more of a spectator than a participant. If I do find myself in a debate I certainly won't use fenain or other so called derogatory term. Banter excluded of course':)

To be honest, I find this kind of statement, not only to be factually wrong but also lacking any depth of moral and ethical responsibility and obligation.

Unless you are some sort of superhero or super villain then you can be stopped.

Having the attitude that "I will do what I like" does not display much maturity or any understanding of how a human being should or needs to act within a civilised society - but I'll bet you are ironically pretty concerned with the behaviour of everyone else you encounter in this world and how they should be considerate of you and your feelings.

Maybe while singing a song you'll be stabbed to death by some Celtic nut-job who when asked about it in court will say, "I can stab people if I like and no-one can stop me" and the judge will say, "fair enough" and let him go...

It's time people learned they can't just do what they want, their parents might let them off with everything and spoil them but the real world bites back.

I'm not sure why you'd think I would want to stop you. I certainly sing all those songs.

Sorry bud, that wasn't aimed you. More in general terms. I'm still drunk from last night. Two bottles of red isn't the correct preparation for a day work and presentations!

You've picked me up wrong mate or I've come across wrong. I was meaning that when I travel to a match, I am not going to stop having a sash-bash because people go out of their way to be offended.
