Keith Jackson has been banned from Ibrox??

Not sure the Jackson ban is still in place. May have been temporary until Record retracted story & apologised Embarrassing for the paper.

it sends out the correct message to these bastards though

Good news indeed. The Record has forgotten all semblance of journalism for many years now. It was a pretty hairy story held together with bits of fluff, and was an ill-disguised pathetic attempt to sell print. While we're at it, shame on Traynor for allowing it.

Looks like we've finally grown a set.

I've no sympathy for any sports journalist today. The days of them being honest, wise, respected commentators have long gone.

I look forward to this present mob being demoted to hand-to-mouth impoverished bloggers.

They sowed the harvest. Let them reap the rewards.

Any follow up in the Record this morning?

Apparently Jackson was banned for a short while whilst the Record considered Rangers threat of legal action should the paper not retract the allegations.

This obviously happened yesterday evening when the story was removed from their website and I'd imagine an apology will be forthcoming over the next few days while their legal team discuss the story's origins.

Rather embarrassing for the paper/journalist involved but not yet an indication of a sea-change in the way we deal with inaccurate publicity as SDM/MIH would have done the same thing if he was personally slighted.

Like I say, there's no real evidence of a huge strategic change in our media tact but that's Radio 5 (via Campbell) and the Record (via Jackson) who've had their collar felt recently. Good news in anyone's book.

However, there was also a scandalous editorial in The Times the other week where they brought Rangers into the nonsense that happened at Tynecastle. Nothing was done there - at least not that I'm aware of.

As always, time will tell but I'm hopeful the club are certainly being more aggressive than usual when dealing with half-truths and mischief-making.

Hugely embarrassing for the paper. But you have to ask, how on earth did such a story get past (a) the paper's solicitors and (b) the editor? Even the most cursory glance at this 'story' revealed it to be totally bereft of substance. As a piece of Kite Flying, it was quite good, as a piece of investigative journalism, it was appalling. Even the most simple glance revealed it to be of a standard of journalism that has (sadly) now become the Hallmark of this disgusting little rag. It is worth repeating that we do not seek favouritism - as others do - all we ask is a level playing field. It would appear that we may well be on the road to getting this. R.I.P Dignified silence. The King is dead. Long Live the King.

I am as delighted as any Bear that articles containing glaring inaccuracies are finally being dealt with by the club. As a support, we have endured a period in excess of two decades where it felt continually like gratuitous open season on Rangers. As stated, any personal criticism of SDM met swift intervention; however, both Rangers and the support were allowed to dangle in the wind.

Each case on it's individual merits, I would advocate the threat of the big stick far more than it's actual use. We must ensure we do not pick battles we cannot win. A wee cautionery tale from 22 years ago. The then Chief Sports Writer for the Herald, James Traynor deliberately antagonised Souness after a European Cup match against Bayern Munich. The spat rumbled on for a few weeks, Traynor kept up a steady stream of baiting comments, both in print and at press conferences. Souness snapped, called Traynor, "a little socialist" in front of the press pack, and later that day informed Airdrie's nominee for the Pulitzer, "you are banned from Ibrox".

Whoopee?

Not exactly, Traynor went from the back pages to the front pages for the ensuing four weeks. Jim Traynor, a martyr? I know, I know, he became a cause celebre. Editorials appeared in other newspapers, some of those not English languaged based. The result, the ban was withdrawn after a month, a climbdown from Souness and the club.

We must get it absolutely correct when wielding the big stick.

We would have had to respond in this manner at some point. With a new owner the press will have been pushing the boundaries, testing how far they could go. There will be plenty more negative stories about us in the coming weeks and months but perhaps the club/Whyte have drawn a line, beyond which there will be action taken.
