Have HMRC put a bomb under Scottish football and got away scot free?

The point is the government is not supposed to behead some citizens for a technical offence as a deterrent for others - not in a democracy.

Try telling that to a 70 year old woman jailed for non payment of Council Tax because she was protesting about the state of her street and neighborhood. She'd probably laugh at the mention of democracy.

Anyway, I agree with a lot of your points regarding HMRC. Personally, I think HMRC are more responsible for what's happened to our club than any individual, but people don't like pointing the finger at them and even if they did, HMRC would never be held accountable. You could be sitting on rock solid proof that people within HMRC actively tried to destroy the club, but I doubt very much if it would help us now. At the very best the most that could be achieved is a couple of heads in HMRC management rolling after a few people were thrown under the public bus. It might be satisfying, but would it be helpful to Rangers? Probably not, but it might be helpful to the rest of the country if HMRC were forced to clean their shop. The problem is, that they wouldn't clean it properly because corruption within org's such as that is there for a reason. The corruption itself serves a specific, often vital purpose and a few heads rolling won't change that.
