Craig Whyte buyout lawyer to become defendant in dispute with Rangers administrators

ADMINISTRATORS Paul Clark and David Whitehouse accused Collyer Bristow of deliberate deception over Craig Whyte's bid for the Ibrox club

THE lawyer at the centre of Craig Whyteâ??s disastrous Rangers takeover yesterday made a dramatic move to throw himself into the firing line in a £25million legal battle.

Ex-Ibrox secretary Gary Withey has applied to become a defendant in the big-money dispute between Duff and Phelps and his former law firm, Collyer Bristow.

And Record Sport understands the Englishman is set to bring explosive evidence that could shed new light on the scandal.

Withey played an instrumental role in Whyteâ??s buy-out and the infamous season-ticket deal with Ticketus that funded it.

Joint administrators Paul Clark and David Whitehouse have accused Collyer Bristow of â??deliberate deceptionâ? in relation to advice Withey provided on Whyteâ??s bid.

As things stood, a victory for Clark and Whitehouse would have resulted in Collyer Bristowsâ?? insurers having to cover the cost of any bill.

But if the application by Withey â?? to be decided on September 10 â?? to join proceedings as a defendant is successful, he too could be found liable and perhaps even face bankruptcy.

This is why sources close to the case believe Withey could be about to enter the court battle with all guns blazing â?? with Whitehouse, Clark and even Duff and Phelps boss David Grier in his sights.

Both sides maintain they have a very strong case.
