Rangers come out on top in Old Firm final

 

... yet, unless I am mistaken, the third goal was scored by Erin Cuthbert.

 

EDIT: Have it on good authority now that Erin set ub Sarah for the third goal.

Last game of the season for the Ladies this past Sunday:

 

Scottish Women's Premier League - 04 Nov 12, Petershill Park Glasgow

 

Rangers Ladies 1 - Hutchison Vale 0

 

Scorer: Lisa Swanson (top scorer of the season)

 

The Ladies finished 9th in the (12 team) table, with Glasgow City winning the Title (and the Treble) by a comfortable 16 points ahead of Forfar Farmington. These two fought out the Henson Cup Final too, with City victorious by 1-0.

Just to let use know there is an U13s, U15s, u17s and a ladies team at Rangers, this is the first season that the U13s have played but they made a great account of themselves this season and will get stronger.

 

The U15s had a great season lifting the treble and going all the way in the league undefeated, they won the League cup against Falkirk and had the league won with games to spare, they completed the treble at Toryglen on Saturday defeating Celtic 3-0.

 

The U17s led the table after defeating Celtic at Petershill 3-1, the league went all the way to the last game of the season in what was a league decider at Barrowfield on Friday 9th Nov, the Rangers girls only needed a draw and needed to bring up some of the girls from the U15s, Celtic led at half time 1-0 but a spirited second half saw the Rangers girls equalise through Megan Mason (u15s), the girls stood strong and when a corner was fired in Megan Mason rattled it in at the back post, a great night to be a Rangers supporter and so proud of the girls.

 

Unfortuntately the Ladies team has not had a good season due to the high number of players who left, but they must take heart from the way they never gave in and alway's fought their corner, there best results were actually against the better teams and with major changes at Murray park hopefully they can get a bigger squad together before the start of the season in March.

 

Rangers are now starting up a girls only football centre for 5-11 year olds at the Ibrox complex (across from the stadium), if you know anyone that would be interested could you let them know that the 1st week is free and it will run every Tuesday untill Christmas.

The girl's u15s and u17s will be taking to the pitch v Annan on 18th Dec at half time with the trophies they won this year for a lap of honour, I know the bears will give them a night to remember with a standing ovation, the girls have been brilliant this season and put the manky mob in their place.

THE OTHER HALF â?? Stand up, for the Champions!

 

 

The home game against Annan Athletic on Tuesday 18th will have a special significance for Rangers FC, as, for the first time, the club presents its Girls section to the gathered Rangers support. And that is not the hot ladies posing in Rangers jerseys every now and then, but the fabulous young and talented players who wear the Rangers Blue for the u15s and u17s Girls teams throughout the summer.

 

As has been noted in the previous article, both sides came out on top in their respective leagues, with the u15s actually securing a brilliant Treble, while the u17s snatching the League title on the last match of the season â?¦ on the ground of our great rivals. Let's review these occasions ahead of the Girls presenting their honours to the Ibrox faithful.

 

The u17s Old Firm game was postponed earlier in the season. The first match in May finished 3-1 in favour of Rangers, but the girls from beyond the Clyde were as prolific as the Rangers team throughout the league campaign. The defeat against Rangers was the only tie where they dropped points, while we dropped just 2 points all the season, drawing 1-1 at home to the Glasgow Girls.

The re-arranged match on this cold November night (KO 7 pm) did indeed put our two Girls sides on a double-disadvantage. By the SWFL's rules "no doomestic games shall be played three day's prior to a cup date". It appeared to be in Celtic's best interest to play this game the night before the u15s were engaged in a Scottish Cup Final, again against Celtic. So far, the SWFL has to respond to this rather strange re-arrangement of this Old Firm fixture. It has already been pointed out that there is a reasonable flux between the Ladies, u17s, and u15s teams. Rangers U17s again had to rely on some of the u15s for the game at Celtic's Barrowfield ground, watched by roughly 200 people.

With the game about 2 minutes old, Stephanie Knox, one of the most experienced u17s, was badly fouled, suffered knee ligament damage and went straight to the hospital. To make matters worse, the experienced Celtic team scored and at half-time it was 1-0 to the home side. The game was more even after the break, yet a blatant elbow in the face of Megan Karagiozis in the Celtic penalty area went unpunished, with Megan's game finished as well. Another foul on u15s hotshot Erin Cuthbert was overlooked too, but the fighting spirit of this very young side was immense. With 10 minutes to go, another u15s player finally getting the equalizer â?? Megan Mason heading the ball home at the back post from a corner. At this point Celtic, who had several girls from their development squad on the pitch, had more possession, but Rangers broke away and a ball put through the middle had Megan Mason onto it like a flash. As she left the Celtic defenders trailing, she found herself one on one with the Celtic keeper, shot low and hard, only to see the keeper touch it round her post. From the resulting corner the ball was flicked on, and it was Megan Mason again who stabbed the ball home at the back post with six minutes remaining. The Rangers support went mental, the girls were brilliant on the night, and deserve full credit for the way they battled away all night. One of their youngest summarized it perfectly after the game, Erin Cuthbert:

Just beat celtic 2-1 to win the league!!! GLASGOW RANGERS CHAMPION! best feeling ever, love my team so muchâ??

The Rangers u17s squad will be listed in the next article, as it is quite mixed with the Rangers Ladies team. Their coach is Steven Mundell.

On to Henson u15s Scottish Youth Cup Final then.

At least three of these Girls had not that much time to celebrate, as a lunchtime kick-off beckoned. While Celtic's u15s did put in a good fight early on, the Rangers Girls never looked in any great danger to complete their clean sweep at that level. They led at half-time thanks to a goal by Shannon MacNichol, ere Megan Mason (yep, she again) produced a fine finish to make it 2-0. As she was already on a yellow card, her celebrations in front of the hooped support draw some attention by the referee and even though the Rangers bench substituted her in the meantime, the referee walked over, handed her a second yellow and consequently red card. That were Rangers down to ten girls, but in 73 minutes, Sarah Robertson rounded off the scoring after some fine passing. It was a glorious ending to the 2012 girls campaign and now the coaches have a tough job at hand. For it is the time of the year to decide which girl is ready to step up to the next level. But that is for another article.
