Francisco Sandaza: I joined Rangers to make history not fortunes

Recommended Posts

FORMER St Johnstone hitman Sandaza has reacted angrily to suggestions he is a money-grabbing gold digger.

FRAN SANDAZA is working overtime in an attempt to be fit enough to help Rangers make history.

And he claims a man who is putting in as much effort as heâ??s doing to meet the professional standards expected of an Ibrox signing cannot be dismissed as a money-grabbing gold digger.

So the Spaniard has given up any rest time available to his new team-mates during the international break to devote himself to becoming a history-making goal digger instead.

Sandazaâ??s pride was hurt when he was subbed in the draw with Berwick last month and he refuses to be a bit-part player without doing something about it.

The 27-year-old, who signed on at Ibrox after leaving St Johnstone at the end of last season, said: â??I havenâ??t been happy with my last two games for the club. My fitness levels have been poor and I want to show my best in future.

â??No player likes to be taken off after 60 minutes because it preys on your mind and the unhappiness stays there until your next game and the chance to do better comes along.â?

Rangersâ?? next match will be on Annanâ??s newly-laid plastic pitch a week on Saturday, another opportunity for the club to break new ground on a journey through the lower divisions.

Sandaza wouldnâ??t pretend Rangers always get the opportunity to take the scenic route on their road back to the top but the striker wonâ??t complain about difficult detours on the way.

He said: â??When I signed a four-year deal I knew I was getting involved in a long project.

â??It involves sacrifice and compromise along the way because sometimes weâ??ll play bad teams on bad pitches. But we need to deal with it and must adapt to the Third Division.

â??Thatâ??s why I gave up any spare time created by the international matches as I knew this was a chance for me to improve my fitness after missing a proper pre-season programme.â?

Sandaza has been going into training at eight in the morning and staying until three in the afternoon. That might seem like a normal day to most but those are elongated hours for a player trying to hone his body into shape for demanding times ahead.

And thatâ??s why Sandaza wonâ??t have his move to Rangers dismissed as a money-making ploy by those whose only form of exercise is jumping to conclusions.

He said: â??Money is a part of football but the players who take Rangers to the SPL will be remembered in the clubâ??s history.

â??Those who say players like me are only dropping down the divisions for money arenâ??t Rangers fans. This is a big club with a huge support and superb facilities. Thatâ??s why Iâ??m here.

â??I want to score goals and be remembered for making history here.â?

? Sandaza was speaking at the launch of Rangersâ?? crossbar challenge, offering a lucky fan £50,000 if he can hit the bar from the halfway line at the game against Montrose on September 23.

A £1m prize will also be given to the fan who can do the same thing at Rangersâ?? final home game of the season.

I find this kinda ironic considering he knocked back a move in January because Rangers weren't offering enough cash & he wanted to hold out for something better.

Although the club was in the midst of turmoil & we had Whyte in control.

Now the clubs future is clear & I assume negotiations would have been alot different to with Green & Ally.
