Leggat - SPL Could Go Bust If Rangers Take Them On

Recommended Posts

RANGERS reaction to the appalling Scottish Premier Leagueâ??s witch hunt â?? snubbing it â?? is no surprise to me.

And it is by far the best thing Charles Green has done since he took over at Ibrox.

As the statement he made last night contained by far the best and boldest words he has used since starting his stewardship of the Rangers reputation.

But now he has to back his words with action, make sure they are not empty words and that his statement is one of intent and not merely sabre rattling.

Which means fulfilling his threat that Rangers will present the stiffest resistance to any attempt by the Scottish Premier League to strip Rangers of any titles up to and including legal recourse.

My belief is Green would not have adopted the hard line he has with the Scottish Premier League, or spoken out with such vehemence, had he not been sure of being on strong legal ground.

Rangers will have taken the very best legal advice open to them. And that is sure to mean Richard Keen QC.

Keen QC has already shown he can be the scourge of Scottish footballâ??s high handed high heid yins by successfully arguing in the Court of Session that the Scottish Football Associationâ??s transfer ban was unlawful.

Now Green has given a clear indication he is willing to send Keen QC back into the Court of Session to argue the case for Rangers against the Scottish Premier League.

The SPL should beware of that.

For Neil Doncasterâ??s ramshackle bunch are skating on thin financial ice and a long expensive court case could break their piggy bank.

Rangers, with such a court room operator as Keen QC arguing their case, have plenty of ammunition to fire. Ammo which could be fatal to the SPLâ??s very survival.

Such as the conflict of interest aspect of the Scottish Premier League, who have already shown the influence Celtic chief executive Peter Lawwell has on other of its decisions, created by hiring Celtic lawyerâ??s Harper Macleod to probe Rangers.

Then there are allegations as to some of the language used by Harper Macleodâ??s attack dog, lawyer Rod McKenzie.

It would be interesting to hear some who have made claims about that language, give evidence under oath about it.

Even more interesting to discover what Rod McKenzie â?? again under oath â?? would answer to questions about statements he is alleged to have made.

But the Harper Macleod-Rod McKenzie attack dog problem is only the tip of the anti-Rangers rogue iceberg inside the Scottish Premier League.

And Rangers have made it clear they know all about what has been going on and continues to go on inside the deeply flawed and now increasingly hard up Scottish Premier League.

For Green has not minced words about what he calls powerful representatives from clubs within the SPL who he says seem Hell bent on inflicting as much damage on Rangers as possible.

Green doesnâ??t name the clubs, but most people will assume he means one at either end of the M8, both of whom wear green and white.

The other point made by Rangers is one which I am sure was drafted by Keen QC and concerns the so-called independence of the SPL Commission.

Not its integrity, nor the integrity of its members. Just its independence from the Scottish Premier League.

For Rangers have made the obvious points that the Commission is not independent of the SPL as it has been appointed by the SPL and that it follows SPL rules, plus the fact that the process is managed by SPL staff.

Meaning, as Rangers added, that whatever decision is reached will be the decision of the Scottish Premier League.

The independence of the SPL appointed Commission to study evidence against Rangers which has been collected by the SPL employed Harper Macleod, who are Celticâ??s lawyers, is not even a fig leaf.

The only real surprise is such an eminent legal figure as Lord Nimmo Smith has staked his reputation on the process.

Just as Lord Carloway did when he trusted the Scottish Football Associationâ??s process. Only for his judgement to be overturned by Lord Glennie in the Court of Session, thanks to a combination of Richard Keen QCâ??s grasp of the law and legal persuasion.

Anyone else think that Celtic/Celtic supporters will find a way of funding the SPL if it goes to court? After all, the poor wee souls in the SPL have just been carrying out their master's instructions!

It wouldn't surprise me if they tried, but unless they did extremely indirectly it would be the most blatant conflict of interests ever.

Agree with that it would need to be done under the table and that would damage their sporting Integrity. I could see a new Sponsor appearing from nowhere right enough,eh Mr Lawell.
