Murray Park???

Recommended Posts

The "academy" @ Murray park has come in for a lot of stick over the past couple of years for not producing enough talent.

Tonight we had Perry, Hutton, McLeod, Aird, McKay & Crawford all getting a game, and all of them looking very comfortable against the SPL leaders.

Has the recent youngsters coming into the the 1st team changed anyones views???

but so far they have shown they have the talent/skill....

if the managers chooses to ignore them in favour of bought in talent... that's not the academy's fault.

Totally agree a lot of the blame does lie at the managers door past and present, and probably us as well we never give the young guys enough time to get settled in the team. But Auchenhowie has a job to train players for Rangers to play at the highest level if they can't do that to convince the manager he can play them no matter what the circumstances then its failed in that respect.

Even Barcelona don't have an all Academy team and they pay millions for youth players. Utopia is a dream and with 6 MP boys involved today we are doing not that bad to be honest.

Over the years, we have produced some decent players, but as yet, no real world class player. Is there a magic formula or is it just down to luck?

I remember when Man U sold all their experienced players and replaced them with Scholes/Becks/Neville's and everybody thought Man U had discovered the secrets of producing top youngsters, but since then no one has really came through their ranks.

Of course, we have the added problems of the English juggernaut on our doorstep. Young kids are having their heads turned by the bright lights of the EPL, so even when we do produce a decent prospect, the promise of a big pay rise and the lure of potentially playing in the EPL means that a Scots youngster would prefer to head south than to play in sunny Scotia.

I'm kinda excited that for the next 15 months we can't sign anyone. We HAVE to develop through these boys. They are going to get a better chance than any other youngster of first team football at Rangers. If they've got the talent, they'll make it. I'm impressed so far, they seem to have taken it in their stride.

The big task we have though is preventing Fleck type issues.

Let's dispell the Murray Park myth. Over the last few decades Murray park has been the springboard for many players that have gone on to have decent careers in England as well as turning out for their country.

Alan Macgregor, Alan Hutton, Ross McCormack, Charlie Adam, Danny Wilson, Kyle Hutton, Jamie Ness, Rhys McCabe to name but a few

I think the biggest problem has been the pressure to win. Managers are not willing to gamble on these youngsters when there are Euro places, big money etc at stake. Compare that to our situation now.....we have a registration ban in place, and no Euro football for the next few years. Fraser Aird(17) got a brief run out against Montrose & looked fantastic....the next game he gets a starting spot. Lewis McLeod(18) has started every game this season. Think Barry McKay(17) has featured in pretty much every game.

The current situation has forced the manager to show faith in the youths....and IMHO, he's been well rewarded!!!
